It's official: Tube n Lube Groove 08 is on!!!

Friday Aug. 22 - Sunday Aug. 24

Cliffs on Guadelupe

We get a bunch of fun people together and roadtrip it down to New Braunfels on a Friday every year. We get adjacent campsites, so we can establish our little community. Camp out Friday night, and hit the river on Saturday. Tube and enjoy cold beverages all day, then come back to the camp and grub down; continue partying well into the night and pack out on sometime on Sunday. Schlitterbahn water park is right there, so that's an option too. Last year's trip was a great experience (Thanks Leaha!) and this one is shaping up to be even more kick ass!

Don't let the cheap looking website fool you, the campsite is so pristine:
http://www.mountainbreezecamp.com

They provide tubes and transportation to and from the river all weekend long! It is definitely a favorite campsite for the locals and last year it was all younger people who don't mind loud music. They actually kept me up, and I got the nick-name grumpy bear last year!

The reservation is for 16 people, 4 campsites, which would really hold about 6-8 tents comfortably. They are all shaded, right next to the river, and very cool with the breeze coming off of the mountains. We went the same time last year and there were no bugs or mosquitoes. We will have electricity, and there are bathrooms and showers at the campground too; we will hardly be "roughing" it.

Only $12.00 per person per night! I've already put down half ($192) and the rest is due when we arrive.

Please PayPal me (or just pay me) the $24 per person camping cost for the weekend, so I know you're serious: K_Ordeneaux@yahoo.com. Give me an email address that you check regularly as well for updates and info (including directions) too, please!

See my blog post below for Pics from last year!

Helpful Info:
1. You are responsible for your own food, but as always, sharing is encouraged!
2. COOLERS, we suggest one for your food, one for your cold drinks (Only smaller coolers with soft sides are allow on the river!)
3. Tubing is $15/tube
4. Showers are available, bring plenty of soap and towels
5. Tents---you need to provide your own
6. Bring FANS...and lots of extension cords
7. Bring CDs/IPODS
8. Cameras and such..we can lock them up in the truck if need be
9. Lotions and potions to avoid the sun and bugs
10. Things will be available to you that require CASH ONLY. Bring plenty!!
11. CHARCOAL! LIGHTER FLUID
12. Plastic cups/plates/utensils for your group
13. Wet Ones (Anit-bacterial wipes)
14. Flip flops for the bathrooms
15. LOTS AND LOTS OF DRINKS (water, Gatorade, beer, liquor) There are no stores for about 30 miles!
16. Games! We are bringing Washer boards, someone needs to bring a volleyball and other fun activities
17. TARPS! These come in hand for ALLLLL REASONS
18. Lights! If you have christmas lights...or something that can add to the scenic view..do so..otherwise---its gonna be DARK As hell! Bring lanterns and flashlights too!
19. Blow up beds (cheap cheap at walmart....15-20$)

There is a place that serves food....it will cost you though. Hung over breakfasts are great there b.c. of their breakfast burritos! Otherwise..we are sandwhiching and cooking on a small grill.

It was breezy and a good 10 degrees cooler in this crazy little SW TX Mecca. Mix in friends, pour on the drank, and bake until lubricated...

These are Leaha's pics. She organized this little shin dig. Some were from Friday night, some Saturday. You can tell by the amount of sunburn on everybody, since we spent the whole day Saturday on the Comal. I just need to get the shots from the waterproof camera to round out the experience...

Big Kenny's 26th birthday celebration! (pics inside)
Current mood: calm
Category: Parties and Nightlife

Jouban and I had plans to make the 2 1/2 hour drive to Dallas to hang out with our boy, Big Kenny. We wanted to help him celebrate his birthday. Never a dull moment when we kick it in Dallas with Big Kenny. We love our boy!

Unfortunately Jouban ended up having to work over the weekend, so I recruited Matt to ride out with me. Jouban was hella nice and lent me some money and let me take his car as well.

Kenny planned a party at the clubhouse in his apt complex. A couple local dj's from Dallas threw down, as well as our friend Jeremy. Kenny also got two kegs for the festivities. Mmmm Abita Amber

Our friend Jackie flew in from San Fran for the weekend, so it was so nice to spend time with her too. We don't get to see her enough! Brandi was also staying in Dallas for work, so we had a fun crew helping Kenny celebrate. I really enjoyed getting to cut up with everyone.

Jackie, Brandi, and me chilling on the balcony in the clubhouse. Kenny lives in downtown Dallas, so the view was freakin' awesome!

Kenny, Jackie, Brandi, me, and Jeremy

Much love for Ms. Raves

A bunch of crazy people from LA

Late night is a blur. I do remember dragging the kegs back to Kenny's apartment. hehe. We had enough beer to last us the whole weekend. We ended up at Club One for the afterparty. Good times.

We woke up the next morning to snow. We braved the snow (you know us people from South LA don't get along with snow!) and headed to Cafe Brazil for breakfast. We also checked out the Deep Ellum arts festival and drank the strongest bloody mary's ever. Seriously. Next up, we drank champagne and bellini's at the top of Reunion Tower. (you see the theme going on huh....lots of drinking)

Brandi, Emilie (Kenny's friend from Dallas. She's such a sweetie.), Jackie, Matt, and me at the top of the tower. Check out the view. The birthday boy was sleeping. He did it big and stayed out all morning while we were passed out.

Later that night we ended up at MINC for the Chris Duckenfield show. Brandi and I discovered saketinis and pomegranate martinis at MINC and it was on. Those drinks were delicious. Chris Duckenfield's set was alot of fun, and it was nice meeting some of Kenny's friends from Dallas. Kenny, myself, and Brandi (thanks to those martinis) were running a tight race to being the drunk of the night; however by 1am, Matt took the cake by far.

(and yes, that is blood on Matt's hand! )

Happy birthday, Kenny! (Jakie and I got a kick outta this pic)

Afterparty ensued at Kenny's. My girl Sarah and her friend Joe showed up to hang out. Many many good laughs were shared. I always have the best time hanging out at the afterparty.

Hehehe. We were definitely blasted by this point.

I hope you had a wonderful birthday weekend, Kenny! Thanks for having us over. We had a damn blast (as always). Come spend a weekend with me and Jouban soon.

Love you my boy!

--Thanks Steffie, Love ya too!

Wow, it's been another hot minute. The last few months have flown by. I had a great birthday this year. I was blessed with friends from all over coming to town, and of course we had a righteous party. Since then, I've been kinda lame. Work is pretty demanding right now. I like that, but I think I'm stressing too much.

So, enough about the doldrums of the rectangular world. I'm coming out west once again this summer! I can't freaking wait. I had purchased my Daft Punk tickets for a show in Berkeley as soon as they went on sale. I had been wanting to see these guys live for something like 6 years, and I finally had the means and the friends in the right places. Can't wait to see Jackie again, plus all the less familiar but equally loved friends from "the day" that live around the Bay are going to come to that show too! So yeah you know me, "We gots to meet up, yall!"

I already bought my plane tickets to spend a long weekend there 7/26-7/30, then just the other day my girl Heather poses the most delectable proposition: "What do you think about driving my car back to Dallas from Sacramento for me?" she asked. See Heather has this adorable 2 month old right now and doesn't want to drive that long with little Sawyer in the car, but needs to get that ride back to Texas soon. Well I got to thinking, "Oh hell yeah I would! I'll already be in Nor Cal on the weekend of 7/27 can we do it then?" So, I cashed in my return ticket with good ol Southwest, and I'm pickin up the reigns and pushin the wagon back across the some of the most beautiful country on Earth and stopping to see some old friends along the way. I can't wait to see that place again, where I spent the best summer of my life in Colorado. Vallecito is calling! Hopefully I'll get to stop in Flagstaff, AZ or SLC and see some folks there too.

Nearly 2000 miles in 5 days. The question is which route do I take? Google says both of these are the same amount of drive time, 1 day, 8hrs. Reply and tell me about the country along either route, if you've been through there or if you live along the way and want to put me up for a night :) I've heard the northern route is beautiful and especially in the hottest part of the summer. Then again, I've never been across Cali, and the southern route puts me through beloved Flagstaff more directly.

that's right, with a 3.

Finally the markup matches the "code poet" hype. Thanks to J Dub for posting her bad ass Dali collage. She's in my friends, but it might be easier to look her up on dirtysouthedm.

Lets see. Winter sucks in Dallas holy crap. I guess last year it was all shiny and new, but damn i don't remember it being this cold. Eh. The music is still hot. I think I'm going to save up for a while, no WMC, just a short road trip for Endemyon, Zuloo, and Bachaus.

My brother is engaged. I'm going to be the best man, but still no date. I hope he takes his time, really.

My lease is up next month, I'll probably renew.

I'll try and give a review, in a few days, but here's a few photos that tell the tale of what happens when 8 fools from Acadiana get together in Dallas for nothing but luscious jubilation...

Grooves supplied by: White Lotis Society, GrooveJunkies, Danny Howells, Chris Jumble, ErniePM, Monarch, and Chuck Love.

I have some video, from the band White Lotis Society on Friday, and my pics (that I took) to upload as well. I think Nola and Laffy would love this band! Live soulful house music (all night long) :P

Early warning, friends: Oct. 14, 3210 Canton St. Dallas, 6PM-3AM. Louisiana vs. Texas house party! The U.N. and E.C. collide on a terrace at a virgin location with a beautiful downtown backdrop. Maybe we'll have some of the WAX family and a few dirty aliens for good measure too

Plur bitches.

I remember

Second lines and penny candy

Project block parties and St. Mark's dances

Corner stores and corner whores

Ducking out the back door

To skip chores

And G-Nikes and street fights

And street lights would keep night

From beating us home

Home grown on neck bones and collard greens

Cat fish, fried chicken, and red beans

With rice, it was nice

But at what price

My rights?

My lights?

My life?

Now I'm trife cuz a hurricane took away my property

One stormy Monday

I remember

Fat Tuesday and Super Sunday

Funeral processions on Burgundy

Fish plates from Broadmore

Poboys on Chef Menteur

Making groceries at Shwegman's store

And calling out your ward

Like, "five, four"

I remember

Opened flood doors

Were way more than what they bargained for like

Swollen doors and mold up from the floors

Inflated bodies

Too many casualties

And all they wanted was a little more money

But it's too many dying

Too many crying

And not enough lying

I remember

The Joy and Eastlake

Motor bikes on the Lake

Talent shows at St. Mary's

High school sororities and fraternities

And Gregory D!

Davy D, Lonnie and Mannie

Rob Fresh and Raj Smoove

Big Cheese krushin' groove

DJ, DJ Money Fresh, Wop

And Jubilee, Dynamite Dave Soul, Captain Charles

And ya boy, Wyld Weezy!

Club Big Easy and Prime Time

Rumors, Nexus, Velocity and The Bottom Line, on Monday

Whispers on Thursday

And House of Blues every Sunday

I remember

Riverboat Hallelujah and Bonaparte Place

Dooky Chase and fat shoe laces

Monogram name plates and apple rings

These are more than just a few of my favorite things

More than just a fading memory

Cuz see, when I say "Stop. Pause."

If you aint from where I'm from

Not even Anthony Hamilton can sing you a clue

So I'mma "make it do what it do" and tell you

Noboby knows what it means

To miss New Orleans like I do

Cuz this is more than just a city

Where my house sits

It's, my heart beat

And even the pot holes in the streets are sweet

And just like "You can't beat Wagner's Meat"

You can't take the N.O.

From the soul of me

See, I'm a Uptown soldier

Little bit of a hard head

From being 7th ward bred

And just enough of that nine

In my spine

So, I don't mind dyin'

But, "aint no love

In the heart of city"

With no culture

And no people

This is gospel

I'm saying a mouthful

But my heart is empty

Cuz, I remember

July and November

Frankie Beverly, Southern and Grambling State University

Black people in unity

Dressed to impress

And putting all kinds of money

Back into the community

Cuz aint nothing greasy

About this Big Easy but the chicken

See, we family

We got Nanans, Parains

And play cousins

School kids on corners playing dozens

And "nigga knockin"

And only when the gumbo pot thickens

Do you know your Grandma done put her foot in it

Yes, I remember

The joy and the pain

The sunshine and the rain

And no hurricane will take the main vein from the artery of this

country

So please, save the babies!

Raise the levee

My heart's so heavy

But my pen stay steady

So, I'mma "get it ready

Get it ready

Get it ready, ready"

So we can all come home

Cuz, I remember the Dome

And the Convention Center

The French Quarter and the FEMA water

And I don't want my daughter or son, to be

To only have that image of my city

I want them to create their own memories

So that they may grow

Grateful to be from the N.O.

And quick to let anyone know

From the Square in the Congo

To the Indian battles outside of Joe's

We are a special kind of people

Born under the Cajun moon Lullabies sung to voo doo blues toons

Sons of Moses

Daughters of Oshun

From the Beignet to the Etoufee

Flora's and the Hardrock Cafe

Fridays atTrue Brew

the Square on Sunday

And the jockamo fe na ne

Come soon, come soon that day

Cuz, I remember

Current mood:  satisfied
Labor day weekend is being very kind. 311 and the wailers represented hard tonight. 311 opened with All mixed up. They played one brand new one, and it was good, also Freeze time, I'll be here a while, sick tight, Flowing. lots of classics. Do you right! (fuckin right) Closed up with Down, Feels so good and Omaha Stylee were the encores. Great show! Wailers played soul rebel, stir it up, everythings gonna be alright. Met some new peeps, hung out with my new favorites later at Zubar. Joey Youngman kept me happy dancing to the wee hours. Big shout to Orlando and Alejandra throwing the parties tonight. Mike J's bbq and house music tomorrow....mmm.

I'm OWNING my job right now. It's getting hectic, but I'm feel like I'm making a difference and its good. Kinda wore myself out this week, prolly 60+ hrs, but hey, whatever it takes, right? So yeah, I'm loving this city more and more every week! Sorry all yall back home, I miss yall, but "I'll be here a while, ain't going nowhere!"

Daft Punk Live at Cochella is currently on the party shuffle for this one.
