'simply an exquisitely-arranged and joyous affair' - Record Of The Day
Friday, October 02, 2009
To celebrate the launch of their new single ‘Into sunlight’ The Sleeping Years will be playing as a full band with added French horn and trumpet players at The Slaughtered Lamb on the 11th Nov. Joining them at the Slaughtered Lamb will be friends Frànçois and the Atlas Mountains and Catriona Irving.

'Into sunlight' will be released digitally on the 26th Oct and on vinyl on the 2nd Nov. The limited vinyl edition features a free download and artwork by Damian O'Hara http://www.damianohara.com and will be available at the show.

Tickets for the show are £5 from: http://www.wegottickets.com/event/60405

Frànçois and the Atlas Mountains
Frànçois came to Bristol from France in September 2003. He drew a picture and put a note in a window announcing his arrival, and asking people to make music with him. He started going to car-boot sales to find some instruments he could use. Overnight, Frànçois won the hearts of this town. Well of course, he’s a sweet kid, but he’s also armed with an eager sense of adventure and a keen taste for pop thrills. In January 2004 he played his first live show, taking to the stage alone, making use of keyboards (played with his foot), a guitar, live samples and a drum machine, mixing playful and experimental ideas with his natural pop-tune sensibilities and sweet bilingual vocals. The string of live performances he has since played have all been eagerly anticipated and utterly charming. Musically, you could say he is reminiscent of STEREO TOTAL, VELVET UNDERGROUND, HOOD, and FRANÇOISE HARDY and yet he is also like nothing else at all.
He has also played trumpet onstage with fellow Bristol bands ROZI PLAIN (Fence records) MOVIETONE (Domino) and CRESCENT (Fat Cat) and Glaswegian CAMERA OBSCURA (4ad) and skateboard onstage with HEADFALL (Spazoom). Through the promotion following the release of 'Plaine Inondable' on the french label Talitres Records and the british Fence records his music has been given the opportunity to be heard by a broader audience.

Catriona Irving
Catriona Irving is a tiny, blonde singer/songwriter based in London. For a couple of years she's been building a reputation for her live show, playing at venues such as 93 feet east, the 12 bar Club and the Borderline, and supporting the Espers and Emilie Simon along the way. Combining clever lyrics and sweet melodies that stick in your head for days, with a sweet and witty live performance, Catriona has been making a significant mark on the DIY scene. Catriona is currently gaining a cult following in France with "Sitting on the Shelf without Shelly", a song on her next EP out in Nov.
METRO: "An artist worth watching"
FACT: "An example of DIY Music at it's best"

Frànçois’ new album is due out in the UK on Fence Records on the 1st Dec and Catriona’s new single is due out on the 16th Nov.

12th Dec Union Chapel, London supporting The Notwist with the Andromeda Mega Express Orchestra
Thursday, September 10, 2009
Hello.

We are very excited to be supporting one of our favourite bands at a special show coming up in London.

After a series of celebrated concerts in Hamburg, Amsterdam, Munich and Cologne, The Notwist and The Andromeda Mega Express Orchestra will be playing a very unique show at the Union Chapel in London on the 12th December.

This combination of a 20-piece orchestra with a 5-piece band from Bavaria holds a lot more promise than the typical "Rock meets Classical" set up. Instead, old and new Notwist songs are elaborated upon to form extremely complex orchestral arrangements that are sometimes moody and often happily insane.
The Andromeda Mega Express Orchestra make music in their very own galaxy - a similar one to which Raymond Scott, Sun Ra or Bach and Beethoven must have once passed by.

These evenings celebrate a new interpretation and elaboration of the Notwistian songbook, which due to the obvious logistical reasons involved can only take place on a few very special occasions.

Support comes from The Sleeping Years.

Tickets for the show will go on sale this Friday 11 Sept at 10am.

Arctic Circle Radio mix by The Sleeping Years

The Sleeping Years have created a mix for the Arctic Circle Radio.

This Circle mix collects together recordings of people I know, an old recording of mine (Catchers), a new cover version ('Abilene' by Damien Jurado) which is exclusive to this mix, some label mates from Talitres (Thee Stranded Horse, Swell, Frànçois) and some music I like to listen to.

Thank you to Miho, Alice, Damian, Julie, Shwetha, Kelly, Catriona, Ben, Anna, and my parents for taking the time to answer my questions, and to all the artists and labels who kindly gave me permission to include their music.

I hope you enjoy it!

The mix will be broadcast on Chill FM but you can now download or stream the podcast from here: http://www.jointhecircle...net/radio/?p=426

Edwyn Collins support

Dale will be supporting Edwyn Collins at Buxton Opera House on the 13th Feb. This will be a solo show for TSY.

For Edwyn Collins, one of the most influential figures on the Glasgow post-punk scene, both as the lead singer of Postcard label stars Orange Juice (Rip It Up, Falling & Laughing, Simply Thrilled Honey, Lean Period, What Presence?), as a solo artist (A Girl Like You, The Magic Piper of Love) and producer for the likes of The Proclaimers, his music career came to an abrupt halt in 2005 when he suffered two cerebral haemorrhages. Since then he has fought his way back to health, released a new album, Home Again, presented a successful exhibition of drawings and begun to play the festival circuit, including Glastonbury and the BBC Electric Proms. Now Four Four Time is excited to welcome the return of a courageous and inspirational artist and his band, including Aztec Camera frontman Roddy Frame.
