“In just a tough economic environment, one of the first things that a shopper can do is consume tap water as opposed to purchasing bottled water.’’
The sad part is that ending the bottled-water fad took a recession, when common sense should have kicked in long ago.
While some bottled water does come from the natural springs and mountain lakes depicted on the labels, most is just municipal tap water -- water that is packaged and sold at enormous cost. Two years ago, the Earth Policy Institute estimated that each gallon of bottled water costs $10 a gallon to go from the groundwater to your lips. Each bottle of water kicks the environment twice, first with unnecessary plastic containers and then with the fuel that is burned to transport this heavy liquid load to your door, supermarket, or vending machine. The cost is currently four times the cost of a gallon of regular gasoline.
This sham is so ridiculous that the Government Accountability Office, which studied the issue for a House committee, reported this summer that the energy costs of delivering bottled water to a consumer in Los Angeles were 1,100 to 2,000 times more than the energy cost of tap water, depending on how far away the filled bottles traveled.
GAO researchers also noted that Americans say they drink filtered or bottled water for health reasons. Nearly half of state officials around the nation report that their consumers believe bottled water is safer than tap water. This obviously cannot be true when the bottled water is tap water.

I just hate reading this stuff and thinking that our society truly believes that formula is good for a baby ?? i mean really ?? who thought of this and why are we as a society so lame ??

“Culturally in the United States we do not accept breastfeeding as the norm, which we really need to, because it is the norm in feeding babies,” Lactation Consultant Cindy Razo told KSDK.
I agree with Razo. To me, this story highlights more than just a problem with one restaurant manager. It highlights a problem in mainstream U.S. society. The fact that there were numerous complaints about a woman naturally feeding her child shows how distant many of us have become from nature and the source of food. Naas was made to feel ashamed for following her natural maternal instinct, when instead, we should feed ashamed of our society for having such an aversion to seeing a completely natural event.

So there was this group of Tea Party Tax protests yesterday, and thank goodness i didnt know who these people were until after they came thru the market..i would have been thrown out of my own booth if i had!
A) the boston tea party was a demonstration against a government the colonists didnt have a part of representation in...how can you use the phrase 'Tea Party' to describe the tax protests of yesterday ?? they all voted, and the man they voted for is the reason for the debt - not the part black man who is currently trying to fix it
B) Are you freaking kidding me ?? 'where were you when bush was spending billions a day 'liberating Iraq'??????

so just for some reading pleasure, please educate yourselves with these wonderful words written by Obama in 2006 :)
i love this man

"We will have to stop pretending that all cuts in spending are equivalent, or that all tax increases are the same. Ending corporate subsidies that serve no discernible economic purpose is one thing. reducing health care benefits to poor children is something else entirely. At a time when ordinary families are feeling hit from all sides, the impulse to keep their taxes as low as possible is honorable and right. What is less honorable has been the willing ness of the rich and powerful to ride this antitax sentiment for their own purposes, or the way the president(bush the second), congress, lobbyists, and conservative commentators have been able to successfully conflate the mind of voters the very real burdens of the middle class and the very manageable tax burdens of the wealthy.
So lets be clear. The rich in america have little to complain about. Between 1971 and 2001, while the median wage and salary income of the average worker showed LITERALLY NO GAIN, the income of the top hundredth percent went up almost 500 percent. ..I point out these facts not-as republican talking points would have it- to stir up class envy. I admire many americans of great wealth and dont begrudge their success in the least. I know that many if not most have earned it through hard work, building businesses, and creating jobs and providing value to their customers. I simply believe that those of us who have benefited most from this new economy can best afford to shoulder the obligation of ensuring EVERY american child has a chance for the same success. And perhaps i possess a certain Midwestern sensibility....., that once your drapes cost more than the average american workers YEARLY SALARY, than you can afford to pay a bit more in taxes."

ani difranco....

oh holy is the atom, the truly intelligent design
to which all of evolution is graciously aligned
the one single structure to which everything distills
the air, the wood smoke there, and the hills
leave me here surrounded by everything that is real
far outside the boundaries of the digitized ordeal
leave me here awake
leave me here to heal
human beings are a cross between monkeys and ants
you can see us from your spaceship
melting the polar ice caps
with our arrogance
summon a choir of angels
dressed in riot gear
we got ourselves a serious situation down here

i have this great great uncle who worked on the atomic bomb
he got himself a nobel prize in physics and a place in this song
and i bet there were no windows
AND NO WOMEN IN THE ROOM
when they applied themselves to the pure science of BOOM
yes messing with the atom is the highest form of blasphemy
whether you are making weapons or simple electricity
someone fashion me a pulpit i have been called to engage with the maniacal heretics of the nuclear age

let the religious get religion
let consumers get a clue
let scientists get perspective
let activists get their due
let industry get a conscious
let the earth inherit the meek
let the divinity of nature speak

the atom...red letter year
