Kym Brown has unfortunately had to pull from the festival, b ut we have managed to bag ourselves another cracking, spanking new artist, ALAMO FEAR

Alma Nofear draws on the delicate contradictions of her origins story -
from Lapland to London - to create music that is sparse yet shambolic.

Performing solo on guitar and with a mutating band that swings from bebop to
sea shanty, Alma sings of silly humans, channelling the sass of soulful diva's
with a raw sensibility that strikes chords...

Showcasing the Freshest New Music for FREE!
Nominated for the Yourope Best European Festival Award at the UK Festival Awards 2007, and billed as the 'cool little boutique festival' by the Sunday Times Style Magazine, TignesFest is a dynamic alpine music event held in one of the top rated (and highest!) ski resorts in the world - Tignes.  Running from

15 -19th April, TignesFest features everything from live bands to DJs and exclusive acoustic sets. It's also a long weekend of skiing, snowboarding, socialising and sounds for the discerning and curious who like to experience something outside of the norm.  Best and most important of all, the event is FREE!

From as far back as Edith Piaf and Johnny Halliday, France has given rise to some of the hottest music artists over the years - which now also include Air, Cassius, the mighty Justice and Vanessa Paradis! With this credible history in mind, TignesFest has continued to forge a strong Anglo-French musical alliance to showcase some of the freshest new talent from the UK, France and Europe.

Success stories from last years event included James Yuill, Alex Metirc and Poney Poney who were all highlighted and featured on Radio 1 and other influential media after their performances at TignesFest.  More recently, Kissy Sell Out also presented a documentary on the French Music scene which featured Poney Poney and A Human have since performed at other festivals in France, Belgium and Sweden- in addition to being in the 'top 6 albums you should own' (Sunday Times Style) and one of the Top Ten albums of the Year (Independent).

"Its the first festival I've been to where I want to see every band on... the essence of TignesFest is breaking new music that probably normally wouldn't get to headline a festival'  Alex Metric

TignesFest also creates an environment for upcoming artists to hang out, have fun and forge friendships with other artists and media. Since last years event Primary 1 and the Shoes have collaborated on tracks and James Yuill and A Human have worked together proving that TignesFest really is a melting pot for the artists of the future.

"Amazing surroundings, amazing music...it's been fantastic to be part of it all" James Yuill

Tignes fest was great this year. They all looked after us so well, from accommodation to transport the whole thing was so well organised. To be honest allot of the artists that played we hadn't heard of before. But by the end of this year pretty much all of the artists we have played along side or seen have grown in stature. We met James Yuill at Tignes and ended up remixing each others singles which was cool'  Dave Human (A Human)

Big thanks to all the amazing artists and DJ's who performed at last year's event; A Human, Alex Metric, Alex Skt, Autokratz live, The Bloody Beetroots, Boy 8-Bit, Chris Lung, Cristal Palace, Dark Jedis, Eddy Temple Morris. James Yuill, Kissy Sell Out, Naomi Roper, Poney Poney, Primary 1, South Central, The Shoes, The Loose Cannons and Trash Fashion.

Curating the show once again are radio broadcasters from the UK's 3 top radio stations; Eddy Temple Morris (XFM), Kissy Sell Out (R1) and The Loose Cannons (Kiss FM) respectively, who have pulled in some artists/acts that are sure to excite and intrigue. Last year XFM's Eddy Temple Morris recorded the live show from TignesFest on Friday 18th April and broadcast back to the UK a week later.

"It is an honour to be one of the Curators of TignesFest. We are all passionate about music and passionate about helping new and up and coming acts get the recognition they deserve, and TignesFest provides a very unique platform for showcasing incredible musicians in a breathtaking setting. I am excited to once again be able to highlight acts I think are fantastic, plus discover other new ones along the way' Kissy Sell Out

If that wasn't enough, Base Camp, the Official Travel Partner for the TIgnesFest plans to create a Ski & Snowboard Test for small independent manufacturers and a series of snowsport competitions for seasonaires from resorts within the Savoie, France during the festival.

'We are inviting teams from Val d'Isere, Tignes, Ste Foy, Les Arcs, La Plagne, Courchevel, Meribel and Val Thorens to see who are the true Savoyard champions in disciplines such as moguls, slopestyle, skier cross, boarder cross and big air.'  Base Camp Director, Fergie Miller explains.

TignesFest ethos:
As revenues from product sales decrease and more high profile (and not so high profile!) artists give away their catalogues for free, the music industry is seeking new ways of finding and promoting talent, repackaging music and marketing their artists – with the added hindrance of ever-shrinking budgets.

The internet - whilst beneficial for introducing new artists into the scene and giving them a break via portals such as Myspace - has contributed to the demise of music sales by the direct increase of rampant online piracy. The digital revolution has therefore also served to reduce the amount of support the industry can offer new acts. Along with this, the process of nurturing and developing new talent has changed, and so too has the face of the industry.

TignesFest aims to help find and support new talent and provide a platform for promotion whilst also giving the consumer FREE opportunities to discover new talent and thus gain their support of musicians.

Radio broadcasters meanwhile, are still very much at the forefront of finding new music; they receive hundreds of demos and promos each week and they help shape the music the public listen to.

As a result, TignesFest has the support of three key broadcasters in the UK who will help to curate the event. With many years radio and music experience under their belts, the curators have been instrumental in developing their respective music genres and finding new and exciting artists whilst supporting the industry's key DJs and musicians.

With the first edition of Tignesfest over we are sad to be back in the UK, but have lots of great memories that will keep us smiling for the rest of the year!

"I had the time of my life at TignesFest 2008, the best snowboarding I've ever experienced in the most beautiful place I've ever seen. Truly jaw dropping. The music was so special too. The Shoes and Primary1 were a revelation, Autokratz' set was a stunner and A Human's impromtu show was a moment I will tell my grandchildren about. I'll keep these memories with me and I'll still be smiling about them on my deathbed" enthuses Eddy Temple Morris.

Taking place from 17th – 20th April, Tignesfest included a bit of everything from DJs to live bands to exclusive acoustic sets and set in the breathtaking backdrop of The Alps.

After a three hour coach ride from Grenoble airport, sprits were high as we reached the resort of Tignes - which also happens to be one of the highest ski resorts in the world!  Everyone received a warm welcome at Pignata for pizza and wine before checking out the sights and sounds.

Marine Parade's darling, Alex Metric kicked off the proceeds with an exuberant Ableton set in Le Ski Bistro – a ski shop by day and a bar by night – there was spirits spilled, hips jostling and crowd surfing galore, followed by South Central who then shook the foundations of the Melting Pot only to be out 'hooded' by The Bloody Beetroots (what is it with the hoody conglomerates). Both duo's battled it out and the outcome was a night of unadulterated electroclash mayhem.

Up bright and early on Friday to clear hangovers with some cool, fresh air, gathering at the Ski Bistro Shop for paraphanalia to hit the slopes.  Band members rubbed shoulders with press and punters as everyone crowded into the shop to get kitted out with skis, snowboards and ski boots.  Tignes has some of the best pistes for all levels but were they ready for the TignesFest entourage and Eddy TM in his X Men like suit.

As quickly as they'd arrived, everyone dispersed onto the green, blue and red runs.  And for those who wanted to take it more sedately, there were dog sleighs and cable cars.  The views from the mountains were truly breathtaking and there were endless slopes to explore.  You could even ski to neighbouring resort Val D'Isere.

As the sun began to fade, sadly a thick blanket of cloud moved in and the weather took a turn for the worse. Undeterred The Loose Cannons took to the outdoor stage and kicked off the proceedings.   As the crowds began to gather they were treated to performances from James Yuill who's smooth and haunting voice was the perfect introduction to what was set to be a cocktail of new and up and coming bands showcasing their talents. The Shoes threw down some fierce electronic sounds rocking the stage and enthused that it was a "unique experience performing in the snow... cold outside but warm inside!!"

As the snow came down harder so did the beats with Poney Poney thrashing out their tunes to the delights of the crowd.  Primary 1 went a step further, with Joe Flory braving the cold and enduring a strip tease by taking off a layer of clothing for each track they played.

Eventually the conditions became too difficult to continue, which was much to the disappointed of the bands that had not yet played, including the Autokratz, Cristal Palace Band, A Human and Trash Fashion.  And although the temperatures were below freezing it was truly magical watching everyone dancing in the snow.

Luckily the promoters did some quick thinking and the Avalanche-inducing blizzards did not prevent them from putting on a show. They moved the party to a club, and Autokratz took to the decks. And whilst they were banging out the tunes and entertaining the crowds and other acts who weren't able to perform, A Human decided to play an impromptu set as they had travelled so far and were determined to play.  Fashioning a drum kit out of a beer crate, sledge and an upside down stool with four glasses on the legs and delivering a short but beautiful set that was one of the many special moments of TignesFest. "J Human used a sledge and a bar stool with plastic glasses on as a drum kit, Mellay Human smashed his Guitar in half, Ben human played his base so loudly nobody could breath and CMore Human used his keyboard as a drum, whilst doing Christ like poses against a wall." Enthuses Dave A Human. "In short we were all a little giddy from the altitude" And that we were after downing a few yega bombs as recommended by the locals.

Saturday was another full day on the slopes and then onto Apres Ski where the acoustic sets were a true delight! First up was Naomi Roper at the Loop Bar.  With not a snowflake in sight and the sun shining, she played a sultry acoustic set to a receptive crowd.   Then it was off to Café Rouge for French artist Chris Lung.  She sang in English and French and played guitar accompanied by percussive drums and a Keith Richards on speed lookalike playing the harmonica.

Moving to the Couloir, a buffet was laid out to keep our energy levels up for the night ahead.  Boy-8Bit was on the decks and Alex Metirc was treated to a huge chocolate cake decked out with sparklers to celebrate his birthday. "The best weekend I've had in ages! Great music, great people and an awesome location!" exclaimed the birthday boy.

Cut to the Melting Pot, for The Loose Cannons, Alex Skt and a sprinkling of drum and bass from the Dark Jedis and the night was at an end, meanwhile at Bagus Bar, Poney Poney, Primary 1 and The Shoes were having a disco classic IPod off to the revellers delight.

Suffice to say, TignesFest was a weekend full of fun where new friendships were made and great new music was played, despite the weather!  Really looking forward to next year's event.

We caught up with Eddy Temple Morris who is one of the brains behind TignesFest to find out more about the event...

Q1: Where did the idea for the event come from and how did you end up working together?

The idea was from Claudia, Kissy Sell Out’s lovely manager, we ended up together because we’ve always supported each other from Day One, I invited the Cannons onstage at their first London Showcase and we’ve been mates ever since. Kissy was discovered by the Cannons, and we both played his demo on our radio shows.

Q2: How will the event different from other music events?

The temperature will be lower while the music will be hotter.

Q3: Tell us about some of the acts that will be playing at the event and are there any reasons why you chose them?

It’s all about the new talent, like In the City, so I’m taking a good handful of my top tips for 2008; Autokratz - British talent from the hottest label in the world today, Kitsune (the uber cool french imprint). Last yhear it was all about the French electro, now the buzz phrase i’m hearing is ’made in britain’. Autokratz are surfing the crest of this particular wave. Alex Metric - remixer of the Year 2007 for me, everybody is talking about him and how good his production is. South Central - they made the cover of 2007, theirt version of Higher State. their production is blistering and they are incredible DJs whose combination of decks and computers enables them to remix stuff live. It’s astonishing, much like Soulwax Nite Versions live. Shoes -spearheading the latest French invasion of the UK, the greatest cultural upheaval since 1066! Primary1 - Their debut single, on Erol Alkan’s new label, will prove to be one of the tunes of 2008, like Prince when he was good. They’re playing live, another tip top tip, their is a buzz on this lot bigger than a swarm of hornets.

Q4: Will any of you be broadcasting your radio show from the event?

Yes, it looks like I will, all things being well.

Q5: The event will take place in Tignes ski resort, which is one of highest in the world.  How did you end up choosing Tignes as the place for your event?

Claudia’s best friend lives there and the local people loved the idea of hosting a free music festival to support new music.  It’s also one of the most beautiful ski resorts in the region with so many activities on offer for people who may not be into skiing or boarding such as horse riding, swimming, trekking, husky riding etc.

Q6:  Are your skills on the slopes on parr with you’re your musical expertise?

erm, not exactly...I’ve snowboarded once and broke 3 bones on day 2, and continued in agony for 3 more days. It was one of the most fun things I’ve ever done, even with the fractures.

Q7: What are your favourite après ski activities?

eating, drinking and chewing the fat.

Q8:  What are your top tips for people to get started on the slopes who have not skied before?

1) Get protective clothing, Dianese are good, the motorcycle stuff, because you will crash all the time. 2) Have lessons before you go, somewhere like the Snow Dome in Milton Keynes, they have real snow in there!

Q9: In one sentence tell us why we should come to your event?

Music as good as this on the highest resort in the Alps, one of the most beautiful places on earth, it doesn’t get any better.
