Tiny Team is extremely proud to welcome back to Savannah for the first time in exactly 18 years, the Original Modern Lover, JONATHAN RICHMAN!

Known by many from his frequent appearances on LATE NIGHT WITH CONAN O'BRIEN, or from his recurring role in the blockbuster Farrelly Bros. comedy film THERE'S SOMETHING ABOUT MARY, for decades now, Jonathan has been beloved around the world for his unique outlook on life, love, interpersonal relationships, Paris, chewing gum wrappers, Pablo Picasso, everyday clothes, Fender Stratocasters, eating with gusto, neighbors, homewrecking, The Velvet Underground, Reno, Abominable Snowmen, Jean Luc Goddard, the island of Bermuda and Double Chocolate Malteds.

A masterful pre-punk electric guitar player who famously turned his back on loud, angry music in the mid-'70s to devote himself to festive, lovely, danceable tunes geared toward anyone who ever had a heart, Jonathan is truly a one-of-a-kind talent.

If you've never been fortunate enough to attend one of his intimate, confessional live shows, you have no idea what you're missing.

Here's his North American TV debut from 1992:

Here's a vintage Super-8 clip of his classic "Egyptian Reggae" from the early '90s:

And here's a song from a live show just a couple of years back:

For this date, he'll be accompanied by his longtime friend and sideman Tommy Larkins on the sttripped-down drum kit. No opening act - just a special, quiet, acoustic headlining set from this living legend of alternative rock, flamenco and calypso music.

Get this - ADVANCE TIX ARE ONLY $12 AND GO ON SALE WEDNESDAY, september 10tH!

Charge them online at www.tinyteamconcerts.org, or buy with cash at the following Savannah outlets: AMR Music, Primary Art Supply, Angel's BBQ, Le Chai galerie du vin in Starland, Marigold Beauty Concepts and Silly Mad CDs.

Tiny Team Concerts are currently organizing a large-scale concert to benefit the recovery and medical expense funds of Jason Statts and David J. Williams, two Savannah-based musicians and graphic artists who were savagely gunned down without provocation in the early morning hours of June 28th, just hours after playing their debut gig with new local instrumental rock band Surt {The Destroyer}.

Their injuries are severe, long-lasting and very expensive to treat. Additionally, only one of the men was insured at the time of the attack. You can learn more about their lives both before and after this traumatic incident -- as well as find details on other special fundraising events and efforts -- right here.

A date for Tiny Team's show has yet to be finalized, but it looks as though the event will take place in mid-to-late October, 2008, and will feature three distinct bands (from Savannah and elsewhere) all of whom enjoy strong local followings and all of whom have personal connections to the victims.

Additionally, we'll be holding a very special Silent Auction featuring rare, collectible music memorabilia and one-of-a-kind, original artwork, as well as raffling a few big ticket items.

This Benefit Concert is being co-sponsored by Connect Savannah newspaper, AMR Music, Portman's Music Superstore, Coastal Digital Reprographics and several other local businesses to be announced soon.

Our goal is to bring together all manner of Savannah music lovers for a 21+ celebration of solidarity and compassion -- and a renunciation of the sickening, senseless violence which has plagued our entire community for far too long.

Keep watching this MySpace page and www.stattswilliams.com for more details to come soon...

After an extended hiatus, Tiny Team Concerts is once more bringing world-class, critically-acclaimed musicians to the Savannah, Ga. area. Our first confirmed show of 2008 will be:

An Evening of Oustanding Guitar Rock - featuring RICHARD LLOYD & THE SUFI-MONKEY TRIO with special guests THE SUPREME COURT, 8 pm, Monday, August 4th at Savannah Smiles near the corner of Bay and Montgomery Streets downtown.

Both guitarist Richard Lloyd and drummer BILLY FICCA are punk legends who founded the pioneering group TELEVISION in the mid-1970s along with TOM VERLAINE and RICHARD HELL (later of THE VOIDOIDS). They were the very first underground band to play CBGB's, and helped put NYC's iconic Bowery Bar on the map.

Ficca would later record and tour with THE WAITRESSES and THE WASHINGTON SQUARES, while Lloyd contributed spectacular, instantly recognizable guitar leads to beloved albums by power-pop wunderkind MATTHEW SWEET (such as GIRLFRIEND and 100% FUN), art-rock collective THE GOLDEN PALOMINOS, and the reformed lineup of Cleveland's ROCKET FROM THE TOMBS (with THE DEAD BOYS' CHEETAH CHROME and PERE UBU'S DAVID THOMAS).

Richard's new tour and band find him playing rarely-heard solo material from albums he released starting in 1978 up through his brand-new disc THE RADIANT MONKEY - as well as re-tooled versions of tunes originally recorded by Television. This is Lloyd's first major solo tour in over two decades, and is a very rare opportunity to catch his famously agile and inventive lead and rhythm guitar playing up close.

Check out some of Richard's oustanding, inimitable guitarwork and Billy's amazing drumming with Television on the BBC in 1992:

And here's a fan-shot video from a few months back of the new band:

Opening the show will be THE SUPREME COURT, a critically beloved cult band featuring the rapier Southern wit and sartorial splendor of SWIMMING POOL Q'S frontman JEFF CALDER, and infamous avant-garde guitarist GLENN PHILLIPS, who was COL. BRUCE HAMPTON'S original lead guitarist in the HAMPTON GREASE BAND before recording a series of groundbreaking instrumental shred/fusion records in the '70s through the '90s and collaborating with psychedelic axeman HENRY KAISER. Glenn's speed, dexterity and inventiveness as far as guitar tone goes is simply breathtaking. He's as mind-blowing as any superstar jazz fusion or shred metal player you can name, but completely in his own hypnotic bag. The Supreme Court's sound is a quirky, irrepressible blend of MICHAEL BLOOMFIELD-style blues, CAPTAIN BEEFHEART-esque dada grooves and surreal, Southern Gothic set pieces. Rolling Stone gave their debut CD Four Stars.

The Supreme Court is a quirky pop band with vocals, but here's some extremely rare camcorder footage from 1996 of Glenn and Jeff playing instrumental music together. Glenn had mastered electronic effects and looping long before it fell into the mainstream:

Here's another amateur clip of Jeff and Glenn from the same year (the video's a little fuzzy, but the audio sounds great):

Here's The Supreme Court jamming with special guest Peter Stroud of Sheryl Crow's band in Atlanta a while back (check out the "guitargasm" at the end):

And here they are on the same night, tearing through the old boogie-woogie standard "Route 66":

Don't miss this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see two of the most idiosyncratic electric guitar players in the rock world on the same night in a small club setting!

Adv. tix go on sale Saturday, July 26th online at our official website, and at the following Savannah outlets: AMR Music, Primary Art Supply, Le Chai galerie du vin in Starland, Marigold Beauty Concepts and Silly Mad CDs.

Tickets are only $16 in advance or $18 at the door for a full evening of amazing music.

Doors open at 7 pm. 21+ ONLY w/ID.

The show is co-sponsored by Connect Savannah, AMR Music and The Hilton Garden Inn Downtown.

See you there!

Legendary Songwriter and Low-Fi Recording Pioneer DANIEL JOHNSTON

Sunday, August 12th at Savannah Smiles

We're extremely proud to bring to town one of the most respected and beloved figures in alternative and indie-rock music for a special club show.

Daniel Dale Johnston is one of the most unique singer/songwriters alive today. A hero and inspiration to everyone from Sonic Youth, Wilco, Half Japanese, The Butthole Surfers, The Flaming Lips, Sparklehorse, Mercury Rev, David Bowie, Bright Eyes, Beck, Tom Waits, Pearl Jam (all of whom have recorded covers of his songs in the past), and most notably the late Kurt Cobain (who famously wore a Daniel Johnston "Hi how are you?" T-shirt constantly during his television appearances and photo shoots), he's an outsider genius whose haunting, deeply personal songs of love, pain, spirituality and self-destruction have beautifully chronicled a life of almost incomprehensible emotional extremes.

In 2005, the award-winning documentary film The Devil and Daniel Johnston introduced Daniel's music and artwork to millions of awed viewers the world over, but Daniel has quietly spent the 25 years writing and recording over 20 stunning (and sometimes disturbingly raw) indie albums of his work - in addition to creating countless paintings and drawings, which are highly prized by collectors.

His two-dimensional art has been exhibited internationally at such prestigious venues as the Whitney Museum of Modern Art, and he's a personal favorite of Simpsons creator Matt Groening.

It is only recently that Daniel has begun to actively tour outside of Texas, and these rare live appearances regulary sell out venues in the USA, Europe and Asia. He recently appeared as a featured act at David Bowie's smash Highline Festival. If you appreciate intense, heartfelt songwriting talent that is unconcerned with the slickness and polish of modern, commercial pop music, then you can simply find no better an example of such talent than Daniel Johnston.

For this show, Daniel will perform in a solo setting on acoustic guitar and keyboard, with a second guitarist, and backed by a full, electric band.

Opening for Daniel will be the indie-rock and anti-folk combo Keith Kozel & The Lovesick - a new group featuring members of acclaimed local bands GAM, Superhorse and Hot Pink Interior, which was formed specifically for this performance.

Tickets to this hotly anticipated 21+ show are only $23 in advance at our website www.tinyteamconcerts.info as of now - and one week later on Friday, July 20th at our regular Tiny Team Ticket Outlets!

So, we know it's a middle-of-the-week show, and everybody's gotta get up early for work on Thursday.

So what?

Cracker's coming to town for pete's sake - and if they can make it to the club, then so can you!

Last year's Cracker show was so "big" that most folks found it hard to believe they played such a small venue - and of course, it sold completely out.

This time, we've bumped them up to a slightly bigger room, so hopefully everyone in 2006 who waited till the last minute to buy a ticket and couldn't get in can rectify that situation.

There are still $22 advance tix available for this Wednesday night's show, but they're going fast - so get online and charge yours today at www.tinyteamconcerts.info, or head out to one of our cash ticket outlets, such as: PRIMARY ART SUPPLY, ANGEL'S BBQ, SILLY MAD CDs, ANNIE'S GUITARS & DRUMS, MARIGOLD BEAUTY CONCEPTS or LE CHAI galerie du vin (in Starland).

If any tix remain unsold at show time, they'll be availabe for $25 cash only at the door, starting at 7 pm.

The show will start at 8 pm, and be over by 10:30 pm, so you can still get to bed by a decent hour.

See you at the gig?

Yer pals,

By now you've likely noticed that the Tiny Team has finally announced our next few shows - and they're all sure to be dates worth saving.

First up is the double whammy of The Swimming Pool Q's and Hot Pink Interior on Saturday, July 23rd in the ballroom of Americna Legion Post #135 on bull St. by Forsyth Park.

For those who've never seen The Pool Q's, trust us - they're without a doubt one of the finest and most unique progressive rock bands in America. Their innovative and intellectual musicianship is balanced out wonderfully by their wry and sardonic sense of humor, and it's hard to believe that they'll soon celebrate their 30th Anniversary as a band!

Don't let that spook you, though. It's hard to find any band, young or old who wants to go onstage after The Q's. They regularly leave even the youngest groups in the dust. If you must describe their infectious and inimitable style of hooky/new wave/art-rock music, just say it's a cross between Television, The B-52's, Captain Beefheart, X and The Church.

And yes, we're serious!

Opening for The Q's will be Savannah's own Hot Pink Interior, a band that's also known for catchy, edgy guitar-based pop/rock and intertwining male/female vocal harmonies. This is the first time The Q's have played Savannah in over half a decade, and we're thrilled to be the ones to welcome them back to a town that at one point was one of their strongest markets.

Check out their official website to see some of the AMAZING press they received for their latest CD.

A few weeks later, on July 11th, indie-rock darlings Cracker are back to try and one-up last year's completely sold-out show at the Legion. This time around, David Lowery, Johnny Hickman and company will be at Savannah Smiles, where we've previously presented both Frank Black and Webb Wilder.

The band (which features members or regular sidemen of Camper Van Beethoven, The Dictators, Mink Deville and The Smithereens) will play two full sets with no opening act, and it would probably be wise to snatch up a ticket as soon as they're available or risk missing them two years in a row...

And finally, we're thrilled to be presenting our very first show at the lovely Trustees Theater on Friday, August 24th.

It's world-famous blues singer and slide guitar whiz Rory Block with her special guests, The Straightway Ministries Choir.

That 38-piece black gospel group will raise the roof as they mix in a strong dose of traditional Southern gospel with Rory's acoustic Delta blues and new interpretations of the music of blues legend Robert Johnson.

What's even more exciting is that one of the members of this choir is actually Robert Johnson's Great Grandson!

This show is open to ALL-AGES, and should be a wonderful evening of joyous, uplifting spirituals and gritty, down home blues for people of all ages, races and beliefs.

Reserved-seat tickets to this rare double-bill are only $22 and will be available at the Trustees Theater Box Office starting May 30th.

But wait - there's more!

We'll be announcing even more Tiny Team shows over the next few weeks, and those dates will stretch into the winter months, so keep checking back often to this MySpace page for details.

And please take a moment to SUBSCRIBE TO OUR BLOG. That way you'll be sure to get the inside scoop on our future shows before anyone else...

Thanks for supporting Tiny Team's efforts to diversify and revitalize the local live entertainment scene. We can't do it without your help!
