after years of trying to find the perfect t-shirt design that embodies the sound of my music best, I finally have decided to reach out to you - my friends and fans, those whom I’d most like to see actually WEARING my t-shirts, to possibly help design one. I’ve met a lot of extremely talented people over the years  -photographers, graphic design artists, painters, you name it. and so I thought it might be cool to tap into some of that talent with a little contest of sorts. me and my team are going to pick 5 finalists that you the fans will then vote on. (again, these shirts are for you, not me.) be creative. be original. be classic, be contemporary. make it look like you think I sound.

TO ENTER: download the
official Tony Lucca logo here: http://rockridgemusic.com/assets/LuccaLogo.psd and be sure to include it (creatively) along with your name, if you’d like, somewhere in the design. send your submissions to LuccaShirtDesign@gmail.com. the contest will run from Wednesday 11/4/09 to Wednesday 11/18/09.  feel free to use Twitter, Facebook and Myspace to get friends to vote on your design. the winners will receive 3 FREE T-Shirts, your name and/or professional links posted on my Facebook, Myspace and Twitter pages. as well, the winner will be eligible for 2 tickets to any upcoming shows in their area and they’ll also receive an autographed copy of my new DVD, Tony Lucca - A Night At The Mint. I look forward to seeing what’s out there. HAVE FUN! thanks y’all... –tony

All contest submissions will become the property of Tony Lucca Music, LLC. Submission of material in any format will be considered a waiver of all rights. Entrants will only be due compensation as described on the contest page.

I'm not sure enough can be said for just how beautiful the hills of Virginia are, especially in the early misty morning on the first day of Fall. I'm sure Thomas Jefferson took a pretty good stab at it. either way, today I'm writing from the front lounge of the tour bus as we make our way down to Nashville after a fantastic Sunday night at Jammin' Java in Vienna. we enter the home stretch of the tour today with a night off before playing 3rd and Lindsley in Nashville and Smith's Olde Bar in Atlanta, then finally heading on out to the Isle Of Palms for the Hotel Carolina event. this has been hands-down one of the sweetest tours I've been on yet. it's been really great making our way from coast to coast these past 4 weeks. I certainly want to thank everybody who's made it out to share in the Evening of the Feeling Song. what a nutty thing. if you haven't seen the tour video blogs, please, do yourself a favor:

http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=8D1FD5084F35D8F9

gonna be laying low after this, getting in the studio, spending some time in LA before heading back out with my good friend Josh Hoge for our little Holiday revue. very excited about that tour as well. Josh and I are assembling a little band for the two of us to play with, having some fun with the whole Holiday theme. tour kicks off the weekend after Thanksgiving, through Chanukah and pretty much goes right up till Christmas. not sure where Kwanza falls but we'll be doing our best to recognize those practitioners as well.

it's weird to already be thinking about "the Holidays" and subsequently, the end of yet another year. man, they seem to be flying by. the cool thing is, the quicker they go the more appreciative I become of all they usher in. this has been a fantastic year so far and it only seems to be getting better. could be that I've recently spent a considerable amount of time away from the news media and all of the unsolicited analysis of just how "dire" things are. yeah, these are tougher times than normal but the truth of it is is that it's times like these that seem to put people more in touch with themselves and thus, each other. I love my job. I take pride in my work and more importantly, I love getting to know the folks who choose to support it, strangely so at a time when there seems to be a little more vulnerability to go around, hence a bit more honesty. I realize that what I do affords me the time and space to have such a perspective but seriously, I might recommend, to anyone looking for a little fresh air, to take stock in the things you do on a day-to-day basis and make note of the things that don't really add anything of honest value but rather detract from true happiness, those things that only seem to further distance ourselves from a steady peace. I certainly don't mean to wax all philosophical and new-agey on you, just something I thought I'd share.

hope the change of season finds you well.

sitting at the gate in the St.Louis airport, waiting on my plane to Kansas City, then on to LA. had a real nice weekend in Southern Illinois. came out here to play a private event for some really wonderful people, had some truly unforgettable accommodations (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LUPdQ2MfMs4), and got to drive through some rather scenic midwestern wine country. I head home now for about a week and then it's off to tour America with Jay Nash and Matt Duke for 6 weeks.

been chippin' away at some new material for the next record, having my way with Garage Band. can't get Radiohead's "Weird Fishes" out of my head. been trying to figure it out on guitar. my finger tips are bit sore because of it.

have no idea what to make of the Heath Care debate other than the fact that with every major political issue that arrises, I feel less and less American. I just don't have it in me to argue the way it seems one has to in order to be heard these days. all I know is that as of now, I don't have health insurance and I know fewer and fewer people who actually do, let alone any that are happy with the coverage they've got. I guess you could call that a crisis.

not much in the way of Public Radio down in Southern Illinois. mostly contemporary country music and Christian radio evangelists. heard one today doing his damnedest to disprove global warming. said it wasn't scientific or political but rather an attack on religion. I wouldn't even know how to debate that. again, just don't have the steam these days. I suppose I can pray that he's right and that his great great grand kids will get to witness to folks in Miami Beach or share the gospel in Manhattan someday. if his "truth" holds up, that shouldn't be a problem. no offense but damn. why waste your energy attacking those who have invested their life's work to study something that might cause humans (i.e. Americans) to live a bit more conscientiously?

would Love to listen to Don Henley's "Boys Of Summer" right now. seems like a good one as we head into the second half of August. maybe it's just my Sunday melancholy kickin' in. maybe it's the idea of flying into the sunset. that's my favorite.

guess I'll have to settle for "Weird Fishes."

hope you're well,
Tony

played New Orleans last night and actually got a chance to walk around a bit before the show. the venue was too far from the French Quarter to walk, being that it was probably 95 degrees with about 70% humidity. as well, the Quarter is usually the only part of New Orleans I'm ever able to visit anyway. instead, I strolled through the warehouse district and came upon the Canal Street Historic District. I remember that this was where most of the reporting took place during Hurricane Katrina. I recalled the images of National Guard tanks rolling through the streets, military commanders shouting orders, troops with rifles at the ready. like so many, I was glued to the tube for the weeks that followed that horrible calamity. I still get worked up just thinking about the nightmare that was the Bush administration and just how blatant their disregard was for helping the people of Louisiana. here in Baton Rouge, my friend told me that they went from a city of 300,000 people to a city of 1,000,000 almost overnight. that's unimaginable! oddly enough, I had been in New Orleans not even a week before Katrina and had returned only a couple months later, after the city had slowly begun to open its doors again. I was with Ernie Halter and my cousin Johnny. the 3 of us decided to drive through the 9th Ward on our way out of town. I've never been to, seen or visited a battlefield, much less right after a battle, but after seeing what we saw that day, I can only begin to imagine what kind of horror must befall those in the face of such an unfortunate turn of events. my heart broke for the people of New Orleans. my heart broke for people everywhere that, for some reason or another, find themselves in the throes of our society's underclass. when I saw the levy and the inevitable path of destruction to be caused by its impending breach, I could see it as nothing other than what it was, a controlled extermination. wow. I'm no conspiracy theorist but sometimes you have to tear through the rhetoric and see things for how they really appear to those most affected, or in this case, displaced altogether.

I saw something else as I was walking last night, something I've only heard and read about or seen in movies and pictures; a "jazz funeral." what I thought was merely a 5 piece brass band playing in the street for change turned out to be the beginning of a parade of people all celebrating the life of a loved one. the "second line" as it's referred to, was a glorious host of family and friends, smiling and shining as they started down the street, rejoicing in the passing of someone truly special. I mean they had the Police escort and EVerything. it was truly something special to see. I decided that when I pass, I'd like for my friends and family to have one of these in my honor. it really seems like such a wonderful way to remember someone, especially someone passionate about the joy of music. I'd like to think that's what I've been so far.

I hope everyone has a wonderful and fulfilling weekend.

namaste,
Tony

hey y'all. writing to you from the back bench of the Benjy Davis Project tour van, on its way from St. Louis to Cincinnati for a night off. had some time to make so I thought I'd write what seems like a rather long-overdue blog. Twitter's made things a little too easy these days. and although I've really grown fond of attempting to master the art of brevity, it's always nice to stretch out and not have to keep track of the number of characters all the time.

it's been a really great tour so far. sadly there's really only a few shows left. after Chicago, me and the BDP part ways as they go on to play some festival dates in Wisconsin and I mill around the midwest looking for some other tour to crash. (hmmm... maybe Evanston on the 23rd? hair IS gettin' pretty curly...) I'll be meeting back up with Benjy and Co. in Nashville from where we'll head on down to Louisiana to close out the tour with a pair of shows in New Orleans and Baton Rouge. the boys are from Baton Rouge so this should be one hell of a way to close things out. it's been real nice having Mic and Matt (of the BDP) sit in with me for a couple songs each night. they're super talented guys and some of the coolest I've had the pleasure of touring with. the whole band is pretty bad ass.

I'm also pretty excited to tell you all that Canyon Songs has been re-released (digitally) and will be available by the end of the month. we're calling it Canyon Songs - Bonus Edition, as it includes tracks from the previously-released Through The Cracks and as well, an acoustic version of "Death Of Me" from the initial studio sessions up at Josh Kelley's house. keep your eyes peeled and make sure to check out the new tracks.

as well, we're putting the finishing touches on the long-awaited DVD release of "Tony Lucca - a night at the Mint" celebrating the release of Come Around Again with my band and a bunch of friends and fans at one of my favorite LA venues. this came out really great and I'll be super stoked to get it into your hands. stay tuned for that as well.

been premiering some new tunes out here on the road so you know it will only be a matter of time before I'm in the studio working on the next record. it's funny, I still get requests for a lot of songs that I've never really recorded or released which leads me to an interesting thought: maybe I should get some input on this next effort. make a record that's truly FOR my fans. I've actually contemplated ways of getting my listeners more engaged in the process on past records. maybe this is a good place to start. consider the lines open. let me know what you want to hear. send me a tweet @luccadoes, become a fan on facebook (if you're not already.) let me hear your ideas. maybe we can churn out one of the most classic concept records of all time. I don't know. something different.

otherwise, I trust summer's treating everyone well. it's pretty green here in Indiana and as we head straight into a nice fat summer rain shower, I can se why.

check out them tour dates y'all. you'd be amazed how often I get people demanding that I come to their city only to have to tell them I was just there the night before. no kidding.

thanks for tuning in...

I remember when Thriller came out. my sister wanted that record like nothing else. "Michael Jackson's NEW record," she told my dad. she was completely deflated when he brought home a copy of Off The Wall (of course the stores were sold out.) she knew it wasn't the right one, still he made me go through the process of spinning it to verify that there were absolutely no recognizable songs on it. (at least not to my sister or me. just mom singing along to "Rock With You") I remember waking up early before school so I could make a cassette dub of Thriller, both sides, to listen to in my walkman. I remember crowding around the TV for the debut of the Thriller music video "directed by John Landis" when it premiered on MTV. full-scale major television event at my house. Motown 25 was my Beatles on Ed Sullivan. the moonwalk changed the dance floor forever. had to have the white glove. I remember when Michael came to the Silverdome in Pontiac, Michigan. the airport he flew in and out of was 2 miles from my house. I remember his plane. or at least the one I imagined to be his. I remember Bad. "Gone Too Soon." I remember thinking he fucked up by snaking McCartney for the Beatles catalogue. maybe the last 18 years of his career was merely a testament to bad Karma. I don't know. Michael was something, either way. he had more than an impact on me and my generation. he will hold his own place in the history of the human experience, on par with very few.

thank you Michael. may your rest be peaceful. cheers!
