Current mood:  impressed

Ewan Mackenzie, alias Dextro - Second full length release Winded has atmosphere in abundance, not that the Dextro sound ever lacked soul. Emotive energy from this distinguished musician continues where he left off from debut album Consequence Music.

Broken percussion and atmospheric guitar structures are key to Dextro’s make-up. Opening track Closer significant, in that this may be an album in which Ewan has opened up, inviting the listener to discover what makes him tick. Taking you in on a personal journey perhaps, Winded lingers and sails through nine tracks of Post-Rock ambience.

The album contains slow burning acoustic melodies that can suddenly burst into life, by way of compelling piano arrangements, none more so than Momentary a real gem to listen to.

Sanna possibly the most up beat track on the album sees Ewan layer up percussion with beautiful bass and guitar. Incredibly warm and with an addictive hook that has you completely immersed.

T
ouching more on electronica are the tracks, Ring Cycle and the bass heavy Pillar. Building shimmering orchestral synth stabs,  and the latter full of light hearted samples, capturing the feeling of hot summer evenings and the fun the found within.

The beauty of this album is the love of nature captured throughout Dextro’s sound. Already an artist with tracks remixed by the likes of Holden and Clark in the past, expect similar plaudits with Winded. The summer has arrived early. Hats off and shades on to Dextro.

What a night we had back at The Note (May 9th) After being away a few months, it was great to get back to the live scene and with a wee healthy turn out too! Super Frog Pocket rocked! Thanks to all that made it down. The music was spot on and it was a pleasure to have such talented artists - travelling from the likes of sunny Ayr, Edinburgh and Manchester to add..

The last Tuesday of the month will be Eclectiv Tronic Tusdays and it will a great opportunity to get more live Tronic tunage out there.

Homecoming - A procession of sounds as Tronic make there mark on 2009 back at the Note, with a Benbecula & Planet Mu showcase.

TRONIC
Saturday May 9th @ The 13th Note
8 - 12
£5 entry

Frog Pocket was born from creative mind of John Charles Wilson & for nearly 10 years his dynamic sound has never been so more prominent.

This ground breaking musician now signed to Planet Mu posseses a frenetic, fierce, incredibly balanced live sound of strings, breaks and beats.

Proudly welcoming Frog Pocket to Tronic for the first time and in the year of the 'Homecoming', expect the Ayrshireman to deliver a full-on ceilidh of celtic electronica.

"A musician and contemporary electronic performer, Frog Pocket's manic physical sets are a spectacle that can only impress"

www.Benbecula.com
www.Planet-Mu.com

A lover of cats and mushrooms, Mrs Jynx also just so happens to be a fantastically flawless musician and one of Manchesters best kept secrets for those that know their electronic music.

Last years full length debut release 'The Standoffish Cat' is an incredible album and sure to take Mrs Jynx to well merited dizzy new heights.

Her music is an effortless journey of IDM, down-tempo wonderfully warm electronica. Swirling melodies and crisp glitchy beats, build a natural energy throughout her live sets.

An artist we can't wait to hear live and playing in Scotland for the first time. See you there (grinning like a cheshire).

"Mrs Jynx's music is like all great music: It sounds as if it has always existed waiting for a composer to "uncover" it to the world."

www.myspace.com/mrsjynx

Araya, man of the moment on Benbecula label, a Inverness lad now living in the capital has a vibrant Scottish influenced sound of glitch, breaks and ambience.

Araya bridges the gap between ambient and glitch- an impressive producer as well as live act.

Tronic were fortunate to have his live talents unleashed last summer supporting christ. We loved his set so much we have asked Araya back to grace Tronic with his music.

"A rollercoaster of electronic breaks and chiseled alternating cavlacades"

Sunday, February 15, 2009
Plenty ups and a few downs made 2008 an eventful year for Tronic. One of various new found sounds, cutting edge artists on the scene and producers at the top of their game.

Throughout the year local Scottish acts played along side those from a little further a field. London electronic duo Yimino(Ominin Records) made the journey north at the start of ‘08, which was followed up by appearances later in year from Wisp USA (Rephlex) and Koolmorf Widesen (Anoise Records) a producer, who is spearheading the Italian Breakcore scene at the moment.
An electronic night residing in the Merchant City was certainly a challenge, but an enjoyable one. Thanks to all the top folk at Blackfriars for being open minded and giving us a shot.

Big shout out to our top visual tag team of Theseareideals and Hurden Husket. Visual artists at the top of their game, who have been involved in the Tronic nights for a while now.

Of course, Tronic ended the year on a high with the release of Tronic Volume 2 album, a collaboration of past Tronic artists & friends, covering different genres and electronic styles. It has been a real pleasure working with such great bands and producers.

This year, three years on and Tronic are still here.

Right in amongst the thriving electronic scene Glasgow has generated. We won’t be doing monthly club nights through this year, but more select one off gigs, so watch this space.

The last few months have seen us working on the back of the Volume 2 release and there are a limited number of cds left. Now. Get one from:

http://www.play.com/Music/CD/-/8/33/-/8779827/Tronic-Volume-2/Product.html?searchtype=genre

The first Tronic night of 2009 will be back at the Note, with two very special Planet Mu acts playing live; Frog Pocket & Mrs Jynx. The line up has just recently been completed by Edinburgh based producer Araya. It’s going to be a cracker.

Look out for some special guests leading up into the summer too, as well as collaborations with ‘Alex Tronic Records’ in Edinburgh and Tronic involvement in this years Merchant City Festival.

See you soon.

SIXPEOPLEAWAY

Falkirk boys and now Glasgow based band Sixpeopleaway have been creating a small army of admirers with their warm, unique acoustic laptop beat driven electronica. Tronic have been fans for a while and are happy have the guys headline our end of year party.

Championed by the likes of Vic Galloway and Jim Gellatly, the band continue to keep themselves busy with an new material due for release at the end of the year. A follow up to last years 'Intermittent Fault EP' and impressive live performances at Wickerman Festival and Connect.

"Their music is precision engineered, super-honest acoustic charm flavoured with clattering clip-beats and heartfelt emotion. Their star is flying higher and higher."

With delightfully listenable angular acoustic guitar and vocal-led songs, help wrap up a great year for the band and check out one of Scotland's best new found sounds.

WIRE MOTHER

After a super show at Tronic's 'White Label Music' showcase earlier in the year, we had to get this cleverly cool chap back for some more wired sounds. Wire Mother is a unique mix of twisted techno and lovely synth slices, that would keep the most dedicated muso happy.

A producer of original vibrations, his new album 'Supercomputer' has just been released on WLM, as this producer is now riding high on the White Label Music rosta.

PLUM

Plum has always been a talented musician from a young age, who grew up surrounded by nature and the ambience of the beautiful Scottish countryside, which can be heard throughout her own music. An artist inspired by the little things that matter to her in life, as well as different people, cultures, friends and feelings that surround her living in Scotland and from her past travels around the world.

A darling of eclectic electronic soundscapes and shoegazing songs, her intimate live outings are a joy to take in and sure to lighten up a dark cold winters night.

"I love sampling nature and real sounds. For me, it's a piece of my life – like a photograph is a visual memory, a sample is an audio memory"

"My music often expresses the things I keep to myself, the parts of me that I hide from everyone, so it's scary sometimes to open up and let people see what's in there!"

Inspired with happy memories Plum has developed a unique style of music combining heartfelt melodies, dark lyrics and a hint of childhood innocence. When not climbing trees, Plum can be found playing gigs around Europe and Edinburgh (where she now lives) and this a rare outing over in the sunny west coast is of somewhat a treat.

VOLUME 2  PREVIEW

01. DEXTRO - Sanna

Glasgow's own Ewan MacKenzie opens up the album with the beautiful and uplifiting Sanna. Dextro has released tracks on some great labels including the mighty Border Community, and we feel he is one of the leading electronic artists within the scene right now. This track is currently an exclusive to the Tronic album and is a brand new composition from Dextro.

www.dextro.co.uk

02. Yimino - Q Bit

The London lads Yimino have a brought a fresh upbeat sound to Volume 2. Q Bit merges electronic Hip Hop style beats and chopped vocals with amazingly lush pads. Having fans such as the mighty Plaid on their side this is a band to keep and eye on.

www.yimino.com

03. Emotiquon - Humanoid Must Not Escape

The irresistible Emotiquon showcase their hypnotic melodies, energetic beats and scatter styled samples with The Humanoid Must Not Escape. Specifically composed for the Tronic album this is another exclusive for all listeners.

www.myspace.com/emotiquon

04. Third Mountain - Hot Risotto

The mysterious Third Mountain creates an ethereal soundtrack to another world with Hot Risotto. With pulsing rhythms and abstract sounds this is a reminder of the likes of FSOL or The Orb.

05. Binary Zero - The 5th Objective

Digital Hardcore is one way of describing the music of Binary Zero. Currently making waves in the underground scene this is an act not for the faint of heart. Politics and Conspiracies are at the heart of this track. The samples used on 5th Objective seems quite appropriate with politicians around the now calling for a "New World Order" due to the current financial crisis.

www.myspace.com/binaryzero

06. Engine 7 - Tired Of Loosing

Engine 7 currently signed to Herb records has recorded this track specifically for the Tronic compilation. A typical electro infused track which showcases Engine 7's ability to create soulful electronic music. He has graced the Tronic stage many times with many memorable moments, so make sure to catch him live at the album launch night.

www.engine7music.com

07. Modifier - Suomonotua

Hailed as the best new dance band in the UK Modifier are currently making a name for themselves for their storming electro/breakbeat infused tracks. Not content with creating banging tunes Modifier cement their growing reputation with a more musical and glitchy inspired track called Suomonotua.

www.modifier.tv

08. Babyshaker - Third Angle Projection

Representing the breakcore scene, Babyshaker is the best producer of the up and coming genre within Scotland we so far come across. Third Angle Projection showcases that there is more to breakcore than scattered glitchy rhythms. Creating a musical balance some producers of this style find hard, Babyshaker is definitly one to watch.

www.myspace.com/babyshakerproject

09. Sabrepulse - Black Dragon

Having been resurrected from the "ashes", Sabrepulse had all but quit the music scene earlier this year much to the dismay of his growing army of Chiptune fans worldwide. Storming back on the scene with a brand new perspective his brand new track Black Dragon is a statement of his new found musical direction. Merging his classic style of chiptunes with Electro and Trance, Sabrepulse could easily be a worldwide phenomenon. We are pleased to have Sabrepulse headlining our album launch night.

www.last.fm/music/Sabrepulse

10. I Am Blip - Patio

With "I Love Techno" tattooed to his wrist and his trusty Electribe machine to hand Andy Blip is creating some of the rawest techno tunes around. His new track Patio shows his ability to create some classic techno beats with pulsing baslines. Make sure to catch his amazing live set at the album launch night.

www.myspace.com/andyblip

11. Rubens - Choco Taco

Rubens are label mates with Engine 7 on the forward thinking Herb records. Having received numerous positive reviews for their album Carnivalesque you may be suprised to hear a different and more experimental Rubens on Tronic Volume 2. Choco Taco is a straight up techno track showcasing the talent the Rubens boys have at creating great electronic music.

www.myspace.com/rubensuk

12. Integra TV - Rapid Eye Movement

Having recently played live at the Connect festival Integra TV's talents have already been recognised by many within the scene. Rapid Eye Movement has a beautiful feel throughout with swelling strings and soft pianos. Sparse glitchy beats underpin this gem of a track thoughout.

www.myspace.com/integratv

13. Ives - Emergence

Ives have been keeping a low profile of late but have emerged from the dark to write a new and exclusive track for the Tronic compilation. Not the easiest to pin down in electronic styles, Ives have created a dark and downbeat experimental track with heavy basslines and sparse electro beats. Make sure to listen to this rare track from the Ives duo.

www.myspace.com/ivesmusic

14. Gravious - Syndicate

Last year the Dubstep genre exploded on the scene with high profile acts such as Burial and Kode 9. Gravious is leading the charge in Scotland with his bass heavy tracks and infectious beats. Syndicate is the perfect ending to a great album as his quality shines through and showcases the types of cutting edge music that is being produced within Scotland and the UK. Gravious will be playing live at the Tronic Volume 2 album launch so make sure to hear the cutting edge of electronic music.

www.myspace.com/gravious
