Current mood: pensive
Tomorrow night, August 12, Sleater-Kinney plays their final show after announcing an "indefinite hiatus" last month. To me, this marks an end of an era. I'm traversing the territory of my 30's as are they.
No other band sounds like Sleater-Kinney. They carried riott grrl attitude on their backs from the mid-nineties all the way through 2006. They brought that perfect mix of rage, political lyrics, sexuality and amazing riffs that I'd be craving before I heard them.
I knew of S-K while in grad school in Atlanta but was digging on more Nine Inch Nails, Garbage and Depeche Mode at the time. I decided to give them a try in late 1999 and was immediately smitten with what I heard. A trip to Atlanta in May of 2000 was the first time I saw them live and I was completely blown away by the balls to the wall energy and noise three small women erupted with. I didn't know exactly what they were singing about but I didn't care. What blew through the speakers and ripped down to my toes had me hooked.
From 2000-2005 I must have seen them eight or nine times but it was wonderful and gripping every time. From the pogging crowd at 9:30 club to the hot sun of Coney Island, they never failed to cause me to jump up and down and wish I had a lick of musical talent.
The good thing is, theyre going out on their own terms. There was no compilation, guest vocal album. No trying to appeal to mass populous radio consumption. Theyre leaving in their prime.
Janet, Corin and Carrie, I'll miss you guys so much but you'll live on in my I-pod - always ready to show me your riffs.

I couldnt sleep last night so was up checking some email and watching CNN around five AM. CNN showed Bush talking to Tony Blair at the G8 conference in Russia, he muttered something that I couldnt understand. Then the CNN reporter said Bush told Blair "They need to stop that shit." (referring to Lebanon attacking Israel). I found it highly amusing that a reporter on CNN could say "shit" if he was quoting the president. Ahh, the times we live in.

I hate dial-up. I really, really hate dial-up. My DSL was suppose to be here with me in St. Louis last week, so now I'm mooching off my mom's aol account. Other than that, the move went well. Long ass 15 and a half hour drive but that was mainly due to stoping so the kids could relieve themselves in the woods. by kids I mean the dopped up dog and cat. Apparently doggy valume makes pugs even dumber and they forget how to drink water and eat. So after that 15 and a half hours we're approaching St. Louis, me in the lead since my dad gave me a GPS system so I wouldn't get lost. Driving up I see the arch in the distance and fireworks the closer we get the more fireworks I see. and as we're driving across the Mississippi River, Don't Stop Believing by Journey comes on the radio. I totally cranked that shit and dorked out. hell, the dopped up pug didnt' seem to mind. Lori called me on my cell and said she arranged for that. heh. I haven't seen too much of the city. well I have seen a couple targets, the mall and home depot. but I figure after we're settled and unpacked they'll be time for that. So for now, I'm working from home and resisting the temptation of watching movies the tivo recorded for me all day. At least the dog and cats don't care if I wait until three to shower. (yes, I'm sexy and know it). Have heard from most of my friends but not Jen yet. Give me a call. later y'all. a

After being on hold with RCN for 20 minutes I totally have some crappy muzak stuck in my head. At minute 23 I was surprised that the muzak was actually a concert because there were applause at the end of one song. I'd be totally pissed off if I went to a concert and it was all shity muzak-sounding. Maybe it was jazz and not muzak. Could I type the word muzak anymore? Am I even spelling it right?

So I went to one of the 10 or 20 Cosi Sandwich Shops near my office for lunch. I'm normally a Subway girl, because it's closer and doesnt cost 7.50 a pop. I thought I was being all kinds of healthy getting their limited time Prosciutto Basil, Mozzerella and Tomato sandwich.

It was really, really good but when I made the mistake of looking it up online, it's like 700 calories with 41 grams of fat! Damn Sam! If I'm going to eat something that bad for me, it's going to be Chipotle, not some shit with tomatoes! Of course they did give me the option of getting carrot sticks with my meal instead of chips, but who wants that? I want fat and grease with my crunch Son!
