DRIINKING WATER IS IT SAFE

I would like to know Why is Defra not pushing for a lowering of the bar. 30mg/l nitrate can inhibit growth, impair the immune system and cause stress in aquatic species yet 50mg/l is considered safe for humans? Would a reading of 50mg/l not reduce the human Immune system and elevate stress?

The high reading will lead to futher pullution over time and higher reading leading to higher enviromental cost. Any Nitate that is taken up is soon leached back into the system over time.

The bar needs to be set at 10mg/l even this is far to high in a first world country. This is the year 2007 not 1667.

We aim to reduce carbon foot prints yet the fuel which fuels us as human life forms if not fit for human consumption.

Defra and the goverments lack of action on reducing the 50mg/l Directive. Needs to be addressed.

In 2006 Thames water alone made Pre-tax profit of £133.3m yet none of this was spent on reducing Nitrate levels.

Below is the 2007 study on water in the UK which can be found through the Defra site.

http://www.dwi.gov.uk/consumer/wq07ccw.shtm

http://www.defra.gov.uk/

after reading it I wonder how you feel driniking tea and brushing your teeth.

Why more action isn't taken to looby on this issue as better drinking water demands would lead to better Water quality for all.

Water quality in 2007,  at present levels its not even good enough to drink.

We say we are a first world society yet driking water is 3rd world.

IMO any amount of ecoli or microbiological contamination is just not good enough. Hell we can go to the moon send Robots to mars yet cannot bring water up to good standards.

The on vouge news is tap is great, why not ask for it at your local restaurant. Yet the plain fact is its full of feases like the people pedaling the tap water lie.

How defra comes up with nitrate of 50mg/l is ok? and is given a pass is beyond me. The bar needs to be set at 10mg/l max.

remember reading levels over 30 ppm of nitrate can inhibit growth, impair the immune system and cause stress in some aquatic species

A little Christian humour

> >This is one of the best clean jokes I've see in awhile!

>Jesus and Satan were having an on-going argument about who was better on the computer.

They had been going at it for days, and frankly God was tired of hearing all the bickering.

Finally fed up, God said, "THAT'S IT! I have had enough.

> >I am going to set up a test that will run for two hours, and from those results, I will judge who does the better job."

> >So Satan and Jesus sat down at the keyboards and typed away.

>They moused.

> >They faxed.

> >They e-mailed.

> >They e-mailed with attachments.

> >They downloaded.

> >They did spreadsheets!

> >They wrote reports.

> >They created labels and cards.

> >They created charts and graphs.

> >They did some genealogy reports

>They did every job known to man.

> >Jesus worked with heavenly efficiency and Satan was faster than hell.

>Then, ten minutes before their time was up, lightning suddenly flashed across the sky,

thunder rolled, rain poured, and, of course, the power went off.

> >Satan stared at his blank screen and screamed every curse word known in the underworld.

> >Jesus just sighed.

> >Finally the electricity came back on, and each of them restarted their computers.

> >Satan started searching frantically, screaming:

> >"It's gone! It's all GONE! "I lost everything when the power went out!"

> >Meanwhile, Jesus quietly started printing out all of his files from the past two hours of work.

> >Satan observed this and became irate.

> >"Wait!" he screamed. "That's not fair! He cheated!

> >How come he has all his work and I don't have any?"

> >God just shrugged and said,

JESUS SAVES

A guy goes to the supermarket and notices an attractive woman waving at him.

She says hello. He's rather taken aback because he can't place where he knows her from. So he says, "Do you know me?" To which she replies, "I think you're the father of one of my kids."
Now his mind travels back to the only time he has ever been unfaithful to his wife and says, "My God, are you the stripper from my bachelor party that I made love to on the pool table with all my buddies watching while your partner whipped my butt with wet celery???"

She looks into his eyes and says calmly, "No, I'm your son's teacher."

Dose folding @ Home  work?  The answer is not if it works, but what can we do to make it work. The same sort of project was run to crack the human genome, as many machines used to compute information across the globe, signed up to help, in the same way the PS3 is used.

When some one says, I would rather give to my church than help folding@ Home, is  he saying, my church will save me from hell, but folding will not.  Do you not think God see's everything,  and when you come to The final call, you will be judged, not on how many bucks you gave to a church, but on your actions and the reasons for the actions.

You cannot buy god. Giving to a church is a good thing, but should not, stop you from helping in any way you can.

The caprine wife of a Sudanese goat molester has died suddenly after more than a year of marriage, the BBC reports Mrs Tombe, née Rose, got hitched in a shotgun wedding ceremony after her future husband was caught indulging in pre-marital sexual relations with the animal. Her owner, Mr Alifi, "described how he heard a noise outside his house and rushed out to find one Mr Tombe going at his hammer-and-tongs with the unfortunate beast", as we reported at the time. He recounted: "When I asked him: 'What are you doing there?' he fell off the back of the goat, so I captured and tied him up."

Rather let him pay a dowry for my goat because he used it as his wife." Charles Tombe had to stump up a 40 quid for Rose, but was later reported happily settled with his missus. Alifi concluded: "We have given him the goat, and as far as we know they are still together."

Sadly, it appears this wedded bliss didn't last. Rose reportedly died "after choking on a plastic bag she swallowed as she was eating scraps on the streets  She leaves one kid, a 100 per cent goat male, suggesting infidelity may have played a part in her ejection from the marital home. ®

The SillyFD-AA worm spreads by copying itself from infected machines onto removable drives such as USB memory sticks before automatically running when the device is next connected to a computer.

The malware, which is also capable of spreading through shared floppy discs, creates a hidden file called autorun.inf that ensures the malware is activated the next time infected media is plugged into a Windows PC.

Infected machines are easily recognised. The title of Internet Explorer windows on infected Windows machines is changed to include the phrase "Hacked by 1BYTE". In both its mode of infection and its lack of profit-driven motive, the SillyFD-AA worm is a throwback to the days when viruses were written for kudos rather than as part of some money-making scheme.

Net security firm Sophos predicted that the growing use of USB drives in direct mailshots and as freebies at trade shows would make them a growing vector for attack.

"With a significant rise in financially motivated malware it could be an obvious backdoor into a company for criminals bent on targeting a specific business with their malicious code," Sophos senior technology consultant Graham Cluley warned.

Firms should disable the autorun facility of Windows so removable devices such as USB keys and CD ROMs do not automatically launch when they are attached to a PC. In addition, any storage device should be checked for viruses and other malware before use. ®

Only 2 percent of pure vegetarians are obese, which is about one-ninth the figure for meat-eaters

Weird but true being a vegi can make you skinny. Plus A full 80 percent of agricultural land is used to raise chickens, pigs, and other farmed animals; with 70 percent of grain produced used to feed them. If the massive quantities of grain, soy, and corn now fed to factory-farmed animals were freed up, there would be plenty of food for the worlds starving people.
