So I hope alot of saouth valley kids show up to this show on December 6th. It's going to be a good time!!
Ok now on to business......The Underground Magazine myspace page is not a Christian site but please understand one thing I Frank Reiland creater and editor of THe Underground hardcore magazine am a Christian. I have been involve in hardcore for a long time!! This scene is not new to me.
Now regarding the show on December 6th.....ALL OR NOTHING, YOUR PAIN, MY VICTORY and ICATCHFIRE are Christians. THrone of Agony is not. I have made contact with them and they do know that this is a Christian show and have told me they will abide by any rules (talked to them on the phone the day I started booking the show).
So to all the pastors, youth leaders in the community of Dinuba....please know that they can feel confident in there kids attending this show....If I find anything wrong I am the first to pull the plug on a band. I would rather have 2 bands with a heart for GOD and the youth then 4 bands just to get kids in the door.
Cheers....Frankie

Both flyers come from comic books...which I am a fan of.
One comes from issue 10 of the Goon by Eric Powell and the other comes from a series I have just recently found called The Loosers.
gots to give credit where credit is due!!

If it was up to me this interview would be longer and with me and my crew sitting around a table at the local Sherri's...considering a chunk of HEADHUNTER consist of members of my crew back in Spokane. We would be loud and annoying and pissing our waitress off more then likely....This gives ya' a brief insight into HEADHUNTER. Check out not only their site but Tattoos By Gus!
http://www.myspace.com/gusballman http://www.myspace.com/headhunter509
Frankie Underground: When did headhunter get started and who is in the current line-up?
Gus: We started almost 2 years ago...the only original member in the band is me (gus) and we've gone through many lineup changes to the group of guys we have now. Seth, chris, josh, josh2,gus,
FU: You were on the verge of calling it quits just a handfull of weeks ago what happened to keep the band going?
Gus: no crazy story there, we all just decided we still wanted to keep going with it...our bass player box quit but our homie chris stepped up in his place.
FU: For anyone who has no clue where Spokane, Washington is where is it and what is the hardcore scene like?
Gus: Eastern WA....the scene here has grown considerably in the last few years. It went from a small group of maybe 20 hardcore kids max, promoting shows and starting bands. now there is probably a good 150 regular kids here. Shows keep getting better and better.
FU: Is the Headhunter album a combo of songs written as Stronghold and Headhunter?
Gus: Sorta, same band just new name
FU: Does Vegan Josh handle most of the song writing and does his involvement in social issues / organizations have any real influence?
Gus: For sure...Josh and I write all the lyrics together. it's pretty much split 50 50
FU: How does living in a city like Spokane influence the way you write songs?
Gus: Josh and I both spent much of our childhood growing up in the hillyard neighborhood and if you know anything about it you know that hillyard is a very lower working class area. if you grow up here, you grow up fighting. I still live in hillyard...i've been shot at and stabbed here but it defines much of who i am. its home.
FU: I know everyone has jobs and school....is there a plan to tour outside of the Northwest maybe with like Furious Styles?
Gus: Possibly...maybe a westcoast. nothing to major
FU: I know Gus is FSU...How does being affiliated with FSU affect the band or does it at all?
Gus: totally separate thing
FU: You play with Furious stlyes in December...What is the plan for 2009? don't know...
Gus: we don't plan ahead too much

Courtesy of tooth and nail records the phrase "Spirit-filled hardcore" became a house hold term in the "Christian" music scene. They signed bands like Focused, Unashamed, Strongarm...Just to name a few.
These bands existed even before they hooked up with labels like Tooth & Nail. I remember seeing No Innocent Victim in Escondido, Ca before they signed with Rescue Records and before Facedown Records even existed. These bands represented something more then just hardcore...more then straight-edge....They represented a hope in Jesus Christ.
Hardcore and Christianity never made good bed-fellows considering so many people beleive that there is no room in the hardcore scene for organized religion (even though hari krishna always had its skinny little fingers in it courtesy of Cro-mags and Shelter). I always felt the bands that were involved in the original "Spirit filled" scene helped change some of the view people had towards "Christians"....The truth is - it has!
Christian bands that have signed to Victory Records.....NIV, Seventh Star, Nodes of Ranvier just to name a couple....The success of Labels like Facedown Records. And the truth is the stuff I just listed really barely scratches the surface of the influnece the first wave of "Spirit-Filled Hardcore" had on the hardcore scene!!
As 2008 is in the home stretch I have seen an explosion of bands that are "Christian" first Hardcore second......Bands, orgnaizations...etc. Bands that are not afraid to share there Faith to kids at shows, from stage and where ever they can. As a Christian this is freaking awesome.....as long as they do not burn out!
As Christian we are supposed to be bold in our witness and when your love is hardcore as mine is what betteer way to share your beliefs then in music you beleive in.....So to all you bands out there hold fast to the word and your faith.
Cheers, Frankie Underground

The following comes from WWW.BUILTONRESPECT.COM
"DIY Drive - Donate ONE DOLLAR drive:
I've just launched a ONE DOLLAR drive. Everyone CAN do something to help, and it doesn't need to be fancy, or time consuming. Really, it's just donating a dollar. When everyone bands together to help something, it makes a big difference.
If you want to repost code online, or email it to your friends:
Built on Respect - DIY DONATE ONE DOLLAR Campaign! link to: http://www.picnuts.com/images/466/867/00000005.jpg
It only takes one dollar to help!
Within the first week of builtonrespect.com launching, we had over 60,000 views. After a phone call yesterday with my girlfriend Colleen of Devil Doll, she suggested creating a 'ONE DOLLAR DONATION BUTTON' -- so I did!
Pass it on, tell a friend! Make a difference! Just visit www.builtonrespect.com to donate!
Thank you!!!

Spokane's BEHOLD is on tour right now....had a rough few days with water pump problems, transmission problems....etc, etc. The following is straight from Alex Boston's blog (lead singer for BEHOLD)
"the van's been towed 3 times in the 36 hours.
james and i are sitting in a hotel lobby, waiting to hear when bertha will be ready to go. between the hills and heat, the transmission overheated, and we apparently blew a hole through it. it wasn't for any other reason other than being old; but that sounds pretty bad fuckin ass.
i don't have much else to say, this was just a heads up.
we spent some more time at the beach yesterday, i got in a fight with the ocean. last night we ordered dominos online, and kept up with our order on the pizza tracker. it's like i was there, watching dulce and eliseo handle our food. pomona is fucking boring. la has shitty cell phone service.
i'm ready to get the fuck out of california."
Good luck with the rest of tour guys!!

The date was Saturday September 13th and the venue was The Exit in Fresno,California. One of my closest friends Alicia had flown down from Spokane and picked me up for the show.
It had almost been a year since the last time I saw Death Before Dishonor and several months since the last time The Warriors had been in Fresno. I had never seen Terror or CDC at this point nor Trapped Under Ice.
Alicia was telling me that Marshall had really liked TUI.....truth was they were pretty damn good and then came CDC. Alot of people back in Spokane loved this band and do not get me wrong they were really good...but llead vocals lacked a bit of energy. Then came Death Before Dishonor and I can proudly say I was not dissapointed. DBD is one of those bands that I can see over and over again and be content!
When you are friends with a band sometimes it clouds your judgement on how good they are or how a set goes but I can honestly say that this night with The Warriors was awesome...I am not sure if it was due to the company I kept that night (Izek, alicia and marshall) or what damn it was fun.......Now comes Terror.
At this point the venue was about 105 degrees inside.....I stank and was getting dehydrated so I sat to the side and just watched.....It was so worth it. I get it now....why people like to see Terror live. They fucking rock!! I have seen Buried ALive before but Terror is a treat!!
I should have tagged along for the final night of the tour in Anaheim...oh well!!

Went to see Furious Styles on Monday night....The Exit in Fresno has go to be one of the hottest venues I have ever been in . When I say hot I mean it is like a freakin' oven in there....Alcatraz and First Blood cancelled. I do not know why so do not ask.
Give Em' Hell (sacramento) were solid....F$ were already tired when they hit the stage it was so hot and from what I got to watch of Kids Like Us...they were dope.
Warriors hit the road with DBD and Terror in september and they will be rolling into Fresno,Ca on September 13th.
Look for some reviews to hit the site tomorrow for the new Terror, H2O and Give Em' Hell I am also hoping to have my first interview in a long time posted in a few days.

So can you answer the question "Who is at fault when the hardcore scene fucking sucks?" The truth is there are a couple of people at fault but some of the blame lays of the shoulders of us older guys who have been around this shit for along time.
So many times the older guys just sit around and talk about the good old days and thats it......It is time for us to get off of our asses and set involved again. Kids need role models and if we are not willing to be those role models the younger kids are going to be unapreciative of what the hardcore scene really should mean to them.
To keep hardcore alive it takes everyone working together...but the older guys need to remember they hold a responsibilty to keeping the spirit alive.
