Cherie's description of her web site is Eclectic Collectible Couture & Vintage and she has some lovely items. Here is a little about what she says about herself...".. I adore vintage.  I can get lost in the beauty of a fabric and certain dresses will never, ever leave my closet because they belong there - whether they are wearable by me or not. When my burgeoning rooms filled to the bursting with my "collection" just got to be too much and I had total strangers suddenly calling me from referrals from friends to "please help them find them a dress"; when everyone I knew said to me "why don't you open a store?" ...that is when I decided to launch Shrimpton Couture."  Here is an item on her website now- a 1950's Polished Cotton Tartan Dress.  See it under day dresses on her site.  Click to view.

By my teens I insisted on making my school uniforms to old 50's patterns and was pretty much seen as " a little odd"! This did not worry my at all as I just adored the era and let's face it, as this was the time of Punk and New Romantics, I was actually pretty normal!  I adore the glamour of the great Hollywood years of the 1940's through to the early 1960's."

In 2007 she opened a shop space with a friend who restores furniture and she started her website, thegirlcanthelpit.co.uk.

Yes! It's that time again to resume our Featured Member segment on the homepage of the Vintage Fashion Guild website. This will be starting our second season of featuring three trade members a week.  Starting the alphabet where we left off, our first Featured Member for 2008 is...

Laureen of retrodress.com

A new VFG Member from California USA, she has this to say about herself...

"Like so many other vintage clothing aficionados, the love affair with vintage clothes began very young, initiated by a thrifting grandmother, and further honed by Mom, who was something of an expert at unearthing treasures. Regularly coming home with fabulous dress-up booty - everything from luscious, frothy 1950's crinolines and evening gowns to fur stoles and costume jewelry - resulted in a dress-up collection the envy of all my girl friends."

We fell in love with a yellow 70s jersey dress on her website.  Click the image to see.

Next is Samaya from samayalingvintage.com

Samaya is another new VFG member from the UK. She tells us her favorite decades for vintage clothing would be the 20s, 30s and 40s but that she loves it all and really doesn't specialize. She also says...

"I have been wearing vintage for over ten years and started to sell vintage costume jewelery and accessories at fairs 2 or 3 years ago and have now a large collection of vintage clothing, fabric and accessories and do 1 or 2 fairs a month including The London Vintage Fashion and Textiles fair in Hammersmith and Frock Me in Chelsea."

Look at this 50s floral Dior featured on her website.

FEATURED MEMBERS OF THE WEEK

Petticoat Army Vintage

Petticoat Army Vintage "Petticoat Army Vintage loves 30s through 50s clothing, especially dresses, dresses, dresses! Nothing but real vintage, listed every week! Visit us on myspace, too."

Pinky-A-GoGo

Pinky-A-GoGo "Hello! We love to bring you the coolest, rarest, funkiest retro finds from all over the world! If you are looking for anything funky or fabulous email -- and we may just have it. We collect everything and anything that we think is cool... and we know cool.

Hmmm, a little bit about me. I am a graduate of FIT (The Fashion Institute of Technology) and Parsons School of Design in NYC! My favorite color is pink! I have won many awards for Toy Design!

I have been a powerseller on eBay since Jan. 13, 1999. I have recently merged my 2 ebay selling accounts to this ebay name, which has been selling funky fun finds since March 27, 2001."

PleasureQueen

PleasureQueen "PleasureQueen has been on eBay for OVER SEVEN YEARS now. THANKS to all of you for supporting me and my auctions! Time DOES fly~ESPECIALLY when you're having fun, which I always do here. SPECIAL THANKS to my repeat buyers (you know who you are, MWAAAAAHHHHH, I ADORE you!). I've been selling vintage lingerie since Day One of my selling career here on eBay. I do sometimes sell contemporary lingerie items as well, though not often. I've begun to list more vintage pieces such as dresses and shoes. Although I'll always list vintage lingerie, I've decided to expand my horizons a bit; my sellers bring me so many nice pieces, I can't (and don't want to) resist them. I'll still sell vintage intimates, so not to worry: I love them too much to ever stop!"

Featured VFG Members for Week of 11-23-07

New Moon Vintage

New Moon Vintage .."New Moon Vintage specializes in quality vintage clothing spanning the Victorian era to the 1970's. Our clothing ranges from couture designer to everyday affordable casual styles. Check out our coordinating vintage accessories including jewelry, handbags and hats. Our aim is to offer unique timeless pieces that you will appreciate for many years to come. Customer service, good communication and personal attention is very important to us....."

Northstar Vintage

Northstar Vintage .. "It started in 1976 with a $1.00 a bag 4th of July rummage sale in Standish, Maine. My sister and I hit a mother lode of 50's gowns, and we were the most glamorous girls on the lake. Or so we thought.

Ever since that summer, I have been addicted to the hunt and smitten by the look and feel of vintage clothes. For nearly 30 years I have scoured thrift stores, waited out all-day auctions, excavated the back rooms of antique stores for the black crepe 50's dresses, oversized 60's leather jackets, Deco revival nylon shirts, sharp vintage hat,s and big sparkly rhinestone pieces that I love to wear."

"Sadly I had to leave a lot of things behind, because I couldn't wear them and didn't quite know what to do with them. Until I discovered the internet, and then eBay, in 1998."

"Living in Northern New England, where no one has thrown out a single item, ever, I am lucky to have access to some of the more elusive vintage items. I still come across such hard to find items as day dresses from the 30's; 40's sportswear; pre 70's men's clothing; unworn new old stock pieces; and vintage in larger, wearable sizes.

Most of my items are from the 40's through the 70's though I have become increasingly fond of 80's fashion and take the occasional foray into contemporary designer wear."

"I still get a buzz from finding something beautiful because I can pass on that experience to my buyers. I work hard at finding and listing incredible, eclectic, wearable vintage clothing, but it's complete customer satisfaction this is my ultimate goal. Every time a buyer opens a package from NorthStar Vintage I want them to experience the same excitement that I felt over 30 years ago when I found my first vintage piece...."

Past Perfect Vintage Clothing

Past Perfect Vintage Clothing.."Past Perfect features quality Antique, Collectible and Vintage clothing from the Victorian and Edwardian eras as well as the 1920s through the 1960s. We also feature designer pieces from the 1950s - 1970s, while we focus on wonderful design lines, textures and treatments. Come see us for vintage hats, dresses, shoes, accessories and even the occasional men's clothing!...."
