This is a blog I did on Home with Heather last year for Mother's Day.  Thought I'd repost it here.  The same thoughts and words still hold true....

Mom's are amazing!

With Mother's Day on Sunday, I just wanted to take a minute and talk about mom's.  I personally don't care how you became a mom, I think it is the most important job in life.

If you have biological children that you are loving and nurturing, kudos to you.  You got to start learning about your baby from the time they were in your belly.  That bond is amazing.

If you were blessed to be able to receive your child through foster-care, adoption, being a step mom, or some other means, my hats off to you.  It takes a special kind of love to wait for and love a child that another mom was unable, for whatever reason, to care for and love.  That's why God saved them for you.

You see, it doesn't matter how they became your baby.  You are the one that is there loving them and nurturing them.  Kissing scraped knees better, singing them to sleep, showing them how to love others and be kind, teaching them right from wrong.  Your heart breaks every times they are disappointed, or sad, or every time you have to teach them through discipline.  That is what a mom is. And that is what a mom does.

I am mom to two special needs boys.  They are my world.  I am so blessed that they came into my life.  Being mom to a special needs child takes a lot, because they need you even more.  You give of yourself even more.  But it is such a blessing each and every day.  You learn that you need them as much as they need you.  They teach you valuable life lesson...patience, caring, strength, courage just to name a few.

Through the years and even as your child is grows up, they will go to college, they will get married and have children of their own.  You will still be their mom.  They will still call you when they are happy, or sad, or lonely, or whatever.  The bond between a mother and child never ends.

To all the moms that I know, I want to say Happy Mother's Day.  Job well done!  You are an amazing group of women and I am blessed to call you my sisters, and my friends.

To my own mother...you are THE BEST, and I just love you.  I hope that I can be the kind of mother to my children that you have been to me, Richard, Marilyn, and the countless others that you have mothered over the years.

Was it Really Such a Good Deal??

So last weekend I told you about how I scored this great deal on a pool table and that I had only been thinking about getting a table for a few weeks, and my friend Linda happened across it.

So cool.

The table was delivered to my house on Tuesday evening.  Just like the guy said he would do.  Before the table could be set up, I had to have a bit of work done.

We had to take out part of a wall.  Not a really big deal except when it's a baring wall.  So now there is this big pole sitting right by where the pool table will be.  Then I had to take out the 1970's psychodelic carpet... I guess we wouldn't have had to, but I've hated that stuff since the day I moved in.  OK now what to do with the cement floor.   A quick coat of paint for now.  Good thing I had a couple friends that felt like they wanted to help me get it done.

Back to Tuesday.  They set up the table, and it is way bigger than anticipated.  You can't shoot anything without banging your cue into the wall.  Damn.  I guess I could go buy shorter cues.  But it would still look and be very crowded in the room.

My son and I went down again today to play.  It just can't be done and enjoyed.  I would likely have some holes in the wall within days from the cue being rammed through the drywall.

So now we have a plan.  I'm going to have the guys come back and rip out one of my bedrooms downstairs.  this will open up the whole "rec" room and allow the pool table to have enough room at one end, the kitchen/bar right beside the table, and a small t.v. room at the other end.  It shouldn't really cost much besides their time, it's only demo. The now tv room will be turned into the spare bedroom, and life will be good.... I think.

I will enjoy it when all of this is done, but I really wasn't expecting to have to add this to the already huge  "to-do" list that is my life.

So was it really that much of a bargain??

I Hate Garage Sales.

I really do.

And a whole garage sale season is just kicking in to full swing...

I just can't see the point of getting up early on a Saturday (not that I'm not up anyway...) and driving around the city like crazed maniacs on a search for other people's crap.  The reason they are getting rid of it in the first place is because it's JUNK.  I just don't get the whole concept.  Of course, I tend to think many things can be a huge waste of my time (the list is long, and I won't get into it).

I also know that some people live for a great Saturday morning garage sale.  THEY JUST LOVE IT, and that's cool.  They get up early grab their cup of Timmy's coffee, and head out to see what great treasures they can discover.  I guess it could be a great pass time.... 3 of my closest friends are exactly these kind of women...they can't wait till Saturday comes.

The problem is, 2 of these friends think that I should really love it too.  And I don't.  They always try to talk me into going out with them in search of junk.  And one of them, who I won't name (but she's my top friend) gets more excited from watching me spend money than anything I've ever seen.  It's actually funny to watch.

Well yesterday,  they finally got their chance.  I went.  And I must say, it was not horrible.  AND I found some awesome stuff that wasn't just junk.

For only the last couple of weeks, I've been talking about converting one of my rooms downstairs into a games room, with a pool table.  I love playing pool, and as you all know I don't get out much... so I thought it might be cool to set it up in my basement so that we could still have fun with it.  Anyway, Linda found me an kick ass deal on a pool table (almost new for like 1/4 the cost), completely by accident (totally an LOA thing).

And I found some great things too.  I've just renovated my house and love the country theme & antiques, found some great decorations at this one sale.  A lady had just renovated her house and so was getting rid of all her country 'crap'.  I ended up spending $90 just at her table.  You should have seen Linda's eyes.

So then we went to another... and another... and another and then we happened upon this guy who was taking offers on a turn of the century singer sewing machine.  I offered him 25 bucks.  He said he wanted atleast 50.  DONE.  They loaded it up and I took it home too, don't even know where the hell I will find room for it.

Photobucket

Mine doesn't look this good yet, it need some work to refinish it, but wow.

We were driving home and Linda was saying how impressed she was, I spent over 150 bucks.  OH goodie.  I said what are you talking about.  I spent closer to a thousand with the pool table.

Shit.

But all stuff I wanted.

As for the girls... what did they spend?  Well Linda spent a whopping $15, and Marg got it done for less than $10.

Crazy heh?

Do I still hate garage sales.... well HATE is a really strong word.

Am I addicted to garage sales - hell no.

Will I go again?   hmmm, guess we'll wait and see on that one.  But I'm sure they will try and drag my ass out again next Saturday.

I was just looking at my blog and realizing that I haven't posted ANYTHING for over a month.  Not like me, I know.

Life has been crazy busy, with puppies and kids and yard renovations and doc appointments and the list just goes on...

So here are some just random happenings and thoughts as of late...

~ Having insufficient funds on your bank card when you go to pay is VERY embarrassing.

~ The amount of shit that comes out of 10 bulldogs puppies could fertilize a whole football stadium for a year.

~ 16" is not really a good thing when we are talking snow.  That's what fell here last weekend.

~ In my humble opinion, not shoveling snow that falls in April is TOTALLY ACCEPTABLE.

~ Sometimes watching your children go through a birthday makes you feel older than your own birthday does.

~ Playing Wii with your son to spend time with him, just leaves you feeling old and incapable of catching the technology.  Now I know how our parents must have felt when we wanted them to play ASTEROIDS with us back in the day.

~ Moms ARE able to function on as little as two full hours of sleep and two full pots of coffee.  It is however, not recommended and  even when done, should not become a new norm.

~ Moms can become forgetful and irritable during times of high stress, and low rest.  This is really not their fault.  Cut them some slack.

~ NEVER should you buy a new home alarm system, be sleep deprived and decide you should set it during periods of puppy pee patrol, when you have to go outside through the night.

~ It is always good to be thankful and grateful for everything that happen in the everyday.  Even for things like the damn door to door salesman that sold you the home alarm system in the first place.  That you do not intend on using after the first week.
~ Another life lesson missed from my dad... don't call a plumber for something simple like a washer on an outdoor faucet.  It can cost more than gold!!!

~ Always make time to smile and laugh at life. EVERYDAY.

~ Always, even when you're super busy make time for those you care about.  And always be there with a smile and a listening ear for those who need it.

~ Be Happy for this moment... This moment is your life.

Baby Steps

They are growing so fast, those puppies of mine.

3 weeks old this Thursday, they have almost tripled in size and man are they hungry!!!

Eyes fully open they can see when we come to love them.  AND, though it’s very wobbly, they are starting to come to greet us.  It is way too cute.  But they are getting stronger hour by hour it seems because last night they were walking better than they were in the morning.

It’s amazing.

You can hear them barking and growling at one another, trying to learn how to play.  Ears are being tugged of a brother or a sister as they wrestle with one another.  Something my boys and I can watch for hours.

It is so funny to watch them nurse.  Diving into Takara to try and secure a nipple before someone else gets it.  Feet are in the air, and sometimes they lose balance and roll to the bottom of the puppy pile, having to start again.  If they don’t get enough from mom, they’ve taken to trying to nurse off my chin when I pick them up to cuddle them.  Needless to say, they have been started on pabulum, and getting the hang of that quite nicely.

I had to move them yesterday out to the big kennel.  They no longer fit in the kennel in the bedroom comfortably, and no longer need to be watched as closely.  It was wonderful to get 2 -3 hours of solid sleep at a time last night before someone needed me, LOL.

I will post more pictures in their album later today so you can see how much they have grown.

Well, the puppies are a week old today.

Have they ever grown!!!  I'd say they've doubled in size.

They are so sweet, I thought I'd put up some puppy love for you  all to enjoy.

Their eyes aren't opened yet, but I'm sure it will be with in the next day or two.  They are able to scoot along pretty quickly although they aren't able to yet stand on their own feet.

They have PUPPY BREATH.   That is my most favorite part of new puppies!!!

It is so cute the last few days because I'll be cuddling one, and giving it some love.  All of a sudden it will be suctioned onto my lip or my chin, or even my nose.  I'm sure I'm gonna get a hickey from puppy kisses.

Won't be long, and the kennel in my room will be to small for them and I will have to move them out to the kennel in my sun room.

Anyway, enjoy the pics

Hey Everybody,

Very proud to announce the arrival of Takara's babies.

She started hard labor this morning at 8:10.  It was very nice of her to wait until my boys had just kissed me good bye and were off to school.  By supper time - actually during supper time LOL,  we ended up with 12 brand new baby puppies.   Six boys, and six girls.

She was in the early stages of labor for a few days (starting Tuesday).  She is extremely tired, as both she and I have been very lacking sleep this week.  She seems to be doing well other than being fatigued and VERY, VERY busy.

She is the most awesome mom.  It always amazes me (and I've done this a few times now) how instinct just kicks in and they know exactly what to do.  I have to say that Takara is the best mom I've seen so far.

I will post more tomorrow, right now I need some sleep...

Love and Hugs to you,

Heather, Takara, and the twelve

"How can you be friends with someone you've never met?"

I tell them: " You've never been online I bet!" Will never understand. You open up your heart to friendship With your typing hands.

It's a world full friendship at your finger tips, There is so much online, It only takes a heart to reach people With your touch.

First you start out online, surfing all around. Next thing you know a great friend will be found.

You will chat a lot and surf cyber space. Soon it will be your second home, A comforting, special place.

A Friend to share your dreams and your tears And to help each other wipe away life's fears.

You will share life together And help each other along You will make it through bad weather Because friendship is so strong.

No matter how far apart you go, Your keyboards will keep you together, And in your heart you will know You don't need a face to be a true friend forever.

So, How do you explain this to people Who've never been online? I guess it takes a gesture of friendship & a little bit of time.

So let's start by sending this around And passing our special touch. A smile, a web site, a gesture starts it all Becoming friends doesn't take much.

I got this off my friend Tinkerbell's page and I really like it.

I have this discussion with my 3D friends all the time.  In fact last year at this time, I actually convinced one of them to give MySpace a try, and now she's a complete addict. LOL - Happens to be my number 1 Linda.

"She use to say. I just don't get how you can tell things to someone you don't even know!!!!".   hahaha ~ Get it now Linda?

Hugs,

Heather

Isn't that a face that NOT just a mama can love.  This is my sweet American Bulldog, Takara.  She is due to have her first litter of puppies in just 6 days, although I don't think she's going to hold them for that long.

If you go to my pics, I've added a photo album just for her.  As you can see, she is normally a very lean, strong dog.

Her belly is getting a bit out of control.  LOL

Honestly before I got Takara, I wasn't one for a large breed dog.  I've always had little one's like shitzu's, silky terriers, that kind of breed.  Takara has changed my mind.  She is the sweetest, most loyal dog I've ever had.  Very smart too.

I house trained her very easily when she was still a pup.  My small breed dogs never did get completely house trained and have ruined many a carpet.  I've learned that it's more to do with the breed.  Training is important with large breed dogs, but once they have been trained, all they want to do is please their master.

Anyway... just wanted to let you know to keep an eye out for some very sweet pictures of puppies coming soon.

I wonder how many she will have.  American's generally throw 7 - 13 in a litter.  This is her first litter, so I have no history to go on, but she is really big.

Anyone want to take a guess??
