well, we're all done with the Taste of Chicago and it was quite an adventure.  if you would like to stream/download audio from the performance check out: http://www.archive.org/details/WallyDoggerLiveAtTheTasteOfChicago

I guess the weirdest part of this show is we kind of advertised and expected it to be our "last show."  after an intense winter tour out and playing together for four years, I guess we figured it was a good time/place to say farewell.

there were a few FIRSTs for this performance...

» first time we all played together dead sober...not even one beer, which is pretty unusual for our band.
» first time Pauly played in shorts.  I felt pretty awkward without jeans, but damn it was hot!!  I think it hit somewhere in the 90s.
» first time I couldn't swear at a full-band show (we've done a couple acoustic/radio sets where it had to be family friendly, but never a fuzzed out rocker.  I had to omit or change words.  it was especially hard on Karma Slapped Me in the Face and You're Always Bitchy When I Call -- you can check out the audio for that).
» first time we played 17 songs without a break.  it was very exhausting by the end, but felt awesome to do a long set.

Anyway, we had a blast and I'm fairly certain we'll be playing some live shows again soon.  I've got a whole new album worth of live tunes written now.  You can hear the demos at http://www.myspace.com/chasingdinosaurs

so I guess I'll leave you with some pics from the Taste.  thanks so much to everyone who came out, skipped work, made signs, and screamed the swear words I wasn't allowed to say.

we love you.
i'll let you know what we end up doing...

Wow!

I haven't written a real blog in a while.  This whole micro-blogging thing makes it so much easier to be lazy and tell you mindless blurbs.  I just spin the wheel on my Zack Morris model Blackberry to  "Twitterberry" and type whatever I feel...Here I'll do one right now.  There I did it.  You could peak at my Twitter page and try and read what I just wrote, but I'm sure I will have written 40 more tweets by then.  What have we come to?

I can't wait for nano-blogging to catch on...

Anyway, this blog already seems WAAAAAAY too long.  So I'll try and sum up what I wanted to tell you...
-We're playing three shows in Michigan this weekend (the posters are below).  If you need more details click on the show on our main page.
-I will tweet the random details on the road.  If you have Twitter, you can "follow" us.  If not, check out out little Twitter widget on our main page or go to www.twitter.com/wallydogger
-I've been writing a lot of new songs.  I can't wait to play them for you.

xoxo,
~pauly

Current mood:  inspired
Category: Music
So I was in a really strange mood today. It's chilly and rainy (again) and there's been a stomach bug floating around my house since Saturday. No fun. After some very early morning emailing for work I decided to take a nap. I slept from 8:00 AM to noon!

Now this is strange for a variety of reasons: 1. I normally don't sleep well, typically 4-5 hours a night of broken sleep 2. When I woke up I had no idea where I was or even what year it was. I had one of those sleep experiences that are so deep that when you awake your mind actually has to catch up (or return to) your physical self. I used to wake up like this all the time back in high school. After a sleep like this you actually feel refreshed, energetic and ready to do something incredible. That's not to say I don't get those same feelings anymore - it's just been awhile since I've been truly inspired.

So anyway, I got up, showered and went downstairs to say hi to our Nanny (Deborah) and the babies. Then I went for a 3 hour walk. When I returned home I had in my possession 2 new CD's and 2 new records. More importantly I acquired these items from our local record store, Hard Boiled. For those of you who have not been to Hard Boiled on Roscoe - it's a place you definitely have to visit at least once. The owner there (Mark) is, for a lack of a better term, misunderstood. If you go there looking for the latest Dave Mathews Band album, he will not have it and will look at you as if you are dumb bastard. However he has an amazing selection of kung fu movies and a really great selection music for anyone that enjoys bands like Acid Mothers Temple (which are a fantastic band to see live)...or in my case someone looking to buy a vinyl copy of Frank Zappa's "Joe's Garage". I also bought an earlier album from Explosions in the Sky who I saw for the first time last summer. They're pretty good and excellent music to have on in the background.

But I digress - during my walk I thought a lot about music. Frigin music man... friend, mother, secret lover. It made me think a lot about being a musician in general and a lot more about being a music fan...especially about being a live music fan. I encourage people to get out there and see more live music...especially in Chicago. There are some great bands in this town and some great bands that come through this town (I was pretty bummed that I was sick last night and missed Lightning Love at Schubas). I guess my overall point to this random rant is that everyone should take the time to remember what brings you inspiration. Whatever it may be, make time for it. It's good for the soul.

I'm feeling pretty good and excited about the state of music today. I feel good about all the shows that have inspired me and all the shows that will inspire me. Tonight I’m going to go out and watch some bands that I’ve never even heard of just to see what’s out there. (I'm going to check out Martyrs’ for anyone up for an adventure).

Speaking of inspiration - I would like to take this time to encourage everyone to go check out RF Modulator this Friday at the Mutiny (4/3). If seeing Pauly rock lead guitar isn't enough to get you off your ass...how about the fact that Kiel Phegley is their front man?! A finer front man alive? This I do not believe. If that's still not enough how about seeing Billy Clyde's new band Hewbie Hewb and the Nano Pubes...lastly but certainly not least, did I mention the Champions of frigin Breakfast will close out the night???

That's some good inspirational gravy for your potatoes my friend.

Carry on,
Donehoo

Greetings my dear,

What a wild and crazy tour!  I've listed my own personal highlights below.  You can also read Donehoo's Tour Log at www.wallydogger.com/tourlog...htm or check out our Twitter blurbs at www.twitter.com/wallydogger

Unfortunately, the road is pretty stressful on a band.  We definitely bumped heads towards the end, which made us all step back and reevaluate what the hell we're doing.  I'm not exactly sure what's next for us. I do know the Taste of Chicago will be involved, and it could be our last show.  I'll have more info on this is upcoming weeks.  In the meantime, here's the awesomeness of the tour...

-
Coolest person to come to a show: Dave Chapelle in Yellow Springs, Ohio (yes, THAT Dave Chapelle).  He was only there for half a song, but it was still pretty amazing and surreal.
-
Favorite venue/city: Arelene's Grocery/NYC - so very, VERY cool.  Huey Lewis was spot on when he said there's "a half a million things to do at a quarter to three."  Arlene's was packed with people, the sound/house gear was amazing (I felt like we were Aerosmith walking on stage with such a pro setup) AND there were people, whom I've never met, singing the words  -- I don't think I've ever felt so cool in my life.  If you'd like to see how sweet Arlene's is, rent Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist (you'll see the venue in the first 15 minutes).
-
Favorite food on tour: The Jaeger burger at the Thurman Cafe in Columbus, Ohio.  I'm not quite sure what was on this thing, maybe sauteed onions, mushrooms, sour cream, peppers...who knows, but it was delicious.  There's a couple pics of us pigging out on Donehoo's Tour Log.
-
Best bar (we didn't play at): Drinker's in Philly.  $1 Rolling Rocks, $2 shots of Jameson.  There's a bucket over the bar you throw quarters in.  If you make it, the whole bar gets a free shot.  A random old, drunk dude at the bar pulled his glass eye and dropped in on the floor.  He asked the bartender if he could help him find it, the bartender replied, "I'll keep an eye out for it, buddy!"
-
Best party pad: Whiskey Tango Foxtrot's crazy little house in Pittsburgh.  We played air guitar to the Commodores "Easy (Like Sunday Morning)," it was epic.
-
Randomest set: Dirty Jack's in Cincinnati.  We opened with "Dancing in the Dark" by Bruce Springsteen (a song that the band has never played before).  I also changed a lot of the words of our originals to mix it up.
-
Most intoxicating drink: The Diane's Ice Tead at Howler's in Pittsburgh.  See Donehoo's Tour Log about this, it literally floored him.
Best beer: Flying Dog Garde Dog in Yellow Springs.  A fine hippie beer for a great little hippie city.
-
Worst beer: Iron City Light in Pittsburgh.  I don't know what they put in this beer, but it is ROUGH.
-
Deepest cut: "Stop Giving a Fuck" in Cleveland.  We had a strange request for this by the dude in Uptight Sugar (the band we played with).  Apparently, he streams this song on Rhapsody, which is pretty cool (I didn't know anyone even used that program).
-
Coolest band we played with: The Sewing Circle.  AND we got to play with them 3 times.  They kick ass, check em out: www.myspace.com/thesewingcirclemusic

Anyway, there's a million other things I could ramble on about.  Hopefully, we'll have a video of the tour edited together soon.  Thanks so much to everyone who came out and helped us pretend like we're rockstars for 10 days.  I'll keep you posted on the happs with the band.  Whatever the case may be, I can assure you we're all going to keep making music.  Maybe not together and/or under this name, but there will be music.  Thanks so much for supporting, motivating and listening to us.  We always love to hear from you, send us a message or e-mail wallydogger@gmail.com

so much love,
~pauly

So in case you haven't noticed, we've been booking our first tour out.  It'll be Swerve's first time out east and my first time to Philadelphia (I'm really stoked to try an authentic cheesesteak...anyone know the best place?).

I contacted my YouTube hero, EdBassmaster (who lives in Philly), to see if his character Mumbles wants to do a video with us, I'm really hoping he gets back with me.  We recorded the first demo for the new record with our old pal Dan Dietrich and his Recording III class at Columbia College.  If you send us a message or e-mail (wallydogger@gmail.com), I send you to our secret band page (we go by another name when we're trying not to be swarmed by crazy fans, you know).

I just heard "diary meeting court room, diary meeting court room" over the intercom at work (if you haven't heard, our last album starts with an actual recording of a secretary from work saying that).

Anyway, here's the tour dates.  Please let us know if you have any questions.  If you live near any of these cities and would like to help promote, we'd love to get you into the show for free and give you some sweet merch.xoxo, ~pauly

ONE SPECTACULAR NIGHT ONLY: Our favorite bands dog sled down to Chicago to join us at the glorious Beat Kitchen. Everyone performing (except our moustached drummer) is from the Great Lakes state.

Q: What happens when you combine the explosive techno synth magic of Kraftwerk with the ingenious pop sensibility of Daryl Hall and John Oates, then add skin tight pants, over sized cardboard instruments, and an ecstasy laced light show?
A: The musical stylings of Moses Jackson & Val Hundreds, otherwise known as THE CHAMPIONS OF BREAKFAST

And if that wasn't reason enough...

Indie pop minimalists, LIGHTNING LOVE, will slay your heart with irresistible melodies and candid stories of heartbreak, drunkenness and the odyssey years. The trio produces a rich blend of piano/synth with tasteful guitar licks and bare bones percussion. Stir in lush harmonies and this group requires no bass to fill your pop cravings.

We'll also be debuting new songs and new sounds (I have a special surprise instrument I'm bringing out). I really hope you'll come out. I can't think of a cooler venue or lineup of bands I'd wanna perform with. Reserve your ticket in advance by clicking the link below.  Here's the details...
