""It might also explain their aggressive stance, which has gone as far as cancelling their annual anti-bullying week, although one-third of staff say they've witnessed bullying managers.""
I am sick to death of reading ignorant myopic *shock* reports of the postal strike ... the latest being "what about the troops" ...
I must make it clear i am NOT criticising or laying the boot into the troops, or denying the impact on them and others in society the postal strike will have BUT for gods sake blame the right people ....
SO you know what let someone say 'what about the posties'
The government and 'management' of royal mail (arse licking bureaucrats) wish to: -
CUT JOBS --- yes job losses, which means a) some postal workers will be out of work and those left will be under increased pressure b) LESS job and life security for those who do not loose their jobs.
FREEZE PAY --- So in conjunction with significant job losses and higher stress for those remaining they thoughtfully get a pay freeze for the foreseeable future --
both of these hang over the heads of the posties like a sword of Damocles, this effects their works life, their home life ... depression, illness .. all of which they have to ignore or risk being one of the new 'jobless' posties.
It is THIS which has led to the current strikes
There is blame here but it is NOT the postal workers.
Is it crap that post possibly won't get to those fighting in the armed forces? YES
Is it crap that those isolated might not get letters and parcels YES
HOWEVER to continue to blame the postal workers is an invalid emotiona response which buys into Mandelsons divisive strategy ... remove support from the posties with lies and half truths and get what he wants.
For gods sake people this is MANDELSON ... a sith lord in any other universe an embodiment of the evils of this free market capitalist totalitarianist bourgeois crap society .... at least stop and question before leaping in the band wagon.
BLAME THE STATE NOT THE POSTIES
""So the management at Royal Mail, and the Government, want to cut jobs, freeze pay and change the working conditions for the staff, which has led to the current strikes.""
""The Times had a headline telling us the strike would "Lose £100m in revenues" for the Government, which seems a lot until they explain this is because they'll have to waive the £100 fine for late tax returns, that could have been imposed on a million people.""
""There is one other possibility, which is the Royal Mail management and the Government are trying to break the union altogether, which would explain why they've drawn up plans to impose the changes without the union's agreement, leaving the management free to impose whatever sackings or pay cuts they fancied at any time. And to be fair, you can see why the head of Royal Mail, Adam Crozier, might consider a union unnecessary, as he managed to get himself a deal worth £9m over six years without one.""
First they came for the Jews and I did not speak out - because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for the communists and I did not speak out - because I was not a communist.
Then they came for the trade unionists and I did not speak out - because I was not a trade unionist.
Then they came for me - and by then there was no one left to speak out for me.

Current mood: cynical
Category: News and Politics
There are times in life no swear worse are enough, even in the fundamentally flawed jurisprudence of democratic capitalism citizens are supposed to have automatic access to 'due process' ... someone ought to inform the police that made up confessions are illegal .... god knows worldwide this message just seems to keep escaping them.
""Ms. Milke’s lawyer, Michael Kimerer, said his client maintained her innocence and was a loving mother who still grieves her son’s death.
“Our main concern is the fact that I have a client that never confessed and a police detective who said she gave a confession,” Mr. Kimerer said. “There was no tape recorder, no witnesses, nothing. Just his word.”
Richard Dieter, executive director of the nonprofit Death Penalty Information Center in Washington, said it was odd that the Miranda issue was only now coming to the forefront of the case. “It’s kind of Criminal Justice 101,” Mr. Dieter said. “This is one of the first things you would check at trial or on the first appeal.”
He said that if it was true that Ms. Milke was denied basic constitutional rights but ended up being put to death, the case could become a prime example of how the death penalty could be problematic.""

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/tearful-kiss-marks-the-righting-of-a-legal-wrong-1648394.html
"Tearful kiss marks the righting of a legal wrong
His conviction quashed, Sean Hodgson was reunited with the brother who never gave up the fight to free him."
So once again a case that had the UK got the Death Penalty would almost certainlyhave been a victim of state murder has conviction not only brought into question but quashed and disregarded so utterly the CPS aren't even considering a re-trail ---- meanwhile it is left to Miscarriage of justice orgs to help him as much as it is possible to do so to 'adjust' to life outside of prison.
Of course this is not just a fault of our justice system but on the very foundations of our society itself; if we ruen society to protect an ideal of elites, capital, status quo etc then the justice system is hardly designed for actual justice, no matter how much individuals within the system fight for and belive that justice is possible for all, it is designed to help further the needs of the elite classes, so a few miscarriages of justice here and there are viewed as collateral damage.
Indeed to paraphrase lord denning from the late 1980's and early 1990's 'if they'd been hanged nobody would care' (he said this as a positive btw).
In the case of Sean Hodgson it highlights how utterly incapable fo dealing with mental illness the justice system is, a confession without supporting evidence is treated as gold, and yet this attitude takes absoloutly no account of tthose members of society pathologically compelled to tell people what they think those folks want ot hear, to get attention, and so on.
It is hard to imagine how this situation can get better when police and increasingly CPS staff are judged on quantative values rather than qualitative ones.
Abuse victims can tell us that they might get out of the abusive situation but the mental and emotional scars stay with them the rest of their lives, they effect their relationships, romances the jobs they can do; it is no different for a MOJ victim - and make no mistake they ARE victims as surely as the murder victims, bombing victims, rape victims etc.
Sorry for the preachy rant but by god this cr*p makes my blood boil.

been a mad beggining of the year ..... sorry for leaving you all ..... just a quickie tonight -- eddie gilfoyle .... in a case that is bringing back reminders of the guildford fours file with the "do not show to the defense" label, seem mersyside police went and destroyed evidence crucial to the case .... http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/uk/crime/article3784886.ece And a key witness recants former evidence .... http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/uk/crime/article3427720.ece Had this man been convicted in a country with the death penalty the chances are fairly high he'd have been killed, murdered by the state, for crimes it looks very much like he did NOT commit. Fighting for the voiceless is essential, and those victims of miscarriages of justice don't get much more voiceless, can you even begin to imagine being innocent of a crime and then immprisoned for it, let alone if that crime is the murder of your wife, child, husband, etc? kudos to captial 'X' for his work, wish i could afford to give aid other than spreading the word ... check out his website and video ... http://www.305375.com/ beccaxx

Firstly let me wish you all a very happy yuletide -- all be it somewhat belatedly. We have most of us i hope had at least a safe, warmish, secure yuletide season (so far). Some in this world are much less fortunate; in a time of hightened economic crisis, which for most of us means choosing when to pay which bills and when to eat, some of us will face homelessness and get to wait on increasingly large social housing lists in increasingly cruddy B&B's and that is if we are lucky,. Not to mention get bullied by the likes of James Purnell (UK MP and department of work and pensions secrectary) because obviously the current recession isn't the bankers fault, not the money buyers, the business peoples faults not it is of course poor people --- the fact that the government bail out of the banks in just ONE day cost as much as a years of invalidity to EVERYONE claiming it was convienently ignored by the media and indeed the government themselves. And yet there are some folks more ignored, more victimised than the general populace ~ folks who find themselves innocent of the crime they have been charged and convicted of yet are still in prison for it. "Morally free from guilt, guiltless, free from the guilt of a particular crime or offense, a man [person] is innocent of the crime charged."(Source: Webster's 1913 Dictionary) From a US perspective and indeed any country which still retains and uses the death penalty no matter how seemingly rare it is carried out given any possible miscarriage of justice on death row can be killed by state murder at any time. Yet being imprisoned minus the risk of DP is still no laughing matter, and in both the UK and US where 'legitimate' prisoners upon parole and/or release get climatisation and some help after a fashion (not consistant or good enough but it is at least something) MOJ (miscarriage of justice) cases get nothing, bareing in mind those fortunate enough to be released as 'innocent' have often lost their homes, jobs/source of income, leave with severe physical and mentla health problems and in some cases have no freinds or family standing by them. So whilst i send my thoughts and hopes and 'prayers' to everyone who is in need, in trouble in distress and in 'want' (deprivation) i send particular thoughts to those imprisoned for financial debt (none payment of utility bills such as TV licence) and more so to those who have commited no crime yet find themselves victims of MOJ's. find out more here are some links for international orgs, UK orgs and US articles/orgs. http://www.theatlantic.com/doc/200708u/innocents-in-prison http://www.innocentinprison.org/
http://www.mojoscotland.com/ http://www.innocent.org.uk/index.html a single by the stunning Alabama 3 that was released in 2007 in aid of MOJOScotland and whose sentiment is perfect here and now .... http://audioo.com/t/lockdown--alabama-3/dad529d7eed9a07/a UK case that aptly demonstrates MOJ's http://justiceforsimon.co.uk/ happy yuletide to you all ... remember mainstream media is a good place to start but if it is all you read then you are aiming blind and become blinkered by the state ;) beccaxx

hello, just a few thoughts inthe run up to the festive season .... no judgments intended.
Why do we need to eat copious amounts of meat at the 'festive season'? One can not help think about the line from 'Babe' that Ferdinand says as he witnesses the female duck being carved up for christmas dinner .... "christmas is carnage ..." http://www.viva.org.uk/campaigns/turkeys/index.htm What other 'foods' do folks like to eat for the 'festive season' .... foie-gras is often seen as a luxurious 'treat' .... well here is what that luxurious treat really costs .... http://www.viva.org.uk/campaigns/foiegras/index.html Instead of turkey some folks eat other avians .... so what about ducks and chickens .... what price do they pay for us to eat their meat? http://www.viva.org.uk/campaigns/ducks/index.htm http://www.viva.org.uk/campaigns/chickens/broiler.htm note the figure for factory chicken deaths in the UK 30 per second and 2.5 million per day ..... that is simply horrific. a true animal holocaust. any other meat has a price also, not one humans pay however .... http://www.factoryfarming.org.uk/ http://www.viva.org.uk/campaigns/dirtymeat/expanded.htm feeling good about eating fish: check out the realities of fish sentience ... http://www.viva.org.uk/campaigns/fish/index.html ]There ARE viable alternative to this 'festive slaughter' however ... and to the meat industry in general specifically factory farming ... for onesuch alternative see ... http://www.viva.org.uk/campaigns/other/veganfarming.html Think you have to miss out on delicious food by going veggie or vegan? Think again ... less cruel food and extremely tasty too .... for some ideas see http://www.viva.org.uk/christmas/recipes.php http://www.viva.org.uk/christmas/recipe_luxuryroast.php This recipe is fabulous as it is one entirly customisable ---- every veggie and vegan cook has some version of a festive roast they developed themselves from the basics of a nut roast .... my version invovles different ingredients every year ... i even make one with vegan sausage mix, chopped apples, herbs, onions and cranberries wrapped in vegan pastry baked and served with either xmas dinner or as a nice nibble/treat over the festive season. you can even make a sweet version for a pudding if one wants to using winter and autum fruits and nuts bound with chocolate and nut purree mix. Christmas does not need to be carnage -- it does not need to be dead animal to be tasty, fun and fattening ;) I'm not sitting in judgment we all have different ethical lines and that is as it should be, but hopefully all the above will dispell some myths, reveal some info and at least demonstrate veggie and vegan food does not need to be sanctimonious 'healthfreak' food but can be tasty, luxiorious, fattening, delicious, indulgence. bx

Whether God exsists or not or indeed any ultimate spiritual 'force' is a matter of much discussion and debate, so much so that people base their own beleifs and possition son there being no God or alternative 'force' -- we seem to have this cultural need to make sense of the world through there being a God or alternative or not being a God or alternative.
It seems to be as if humanity in all its epochs and societies is invovled in a love song between God or no God, itself and us, is 'God' a parent or lover? Is this why so many ardent atheists are almost bitter about their being no 'God' or alternative -- like a ove affair that has gone hideously wrong and the embitttered partner decries love actually exsisting or the child who effectivly disowns its parents scoffing at selfless 'parental' love exsisting.
The deepest love songs are not happy and clappy but full of doubts, darkness, betrayal, self searching, uncertainty, possesion, righteousness, bitterness, hope .....
And perhaps this is where humanities discourse between 'God' (or alterantive) and no 'God' (or alternative) leads us through a lovesong, ultimatly fullfillment will not come until death though, none of us will know one way or the other until we die whether there is nothing and we just die and rot for the worms or if there is another phase of life. As with love we never really know till it happens whether love lasts or dies or if that first love will deepen and mature into lasting love.
Perhaps it all comes down to a hopeful discourse between love, life, death and the unknown?

The UK spends £20bn a year on these sickness and disability benefits - £5bn less than the 'loan' fund it donated to the banking sector in just one day. Meanwhile new cash injected into the Social Fund – a source of interest-free loans for people on low incomes, including grants to help the mentally ill return to the community and emergency loans to re-house families who've lost their homes due to fire or flood – stood at just £81m for the whole year. Whilst there has been a little talk about more regulation, nobody has stood up in parliament and called for a major rethink about the way we run our economy. And no wonder – all their pensions are linked to the value of shares in the very businesses the government is propping up! But the hypocrisy doesn't stop there. For years we heard the same old story about how there's never any money for a liveable benefits system or a decent minimum wage, but somehow UK plc finds billions of spare cash to support corrupt businesses that are in a mess only because of a greed that has benefited no one but their shareholders. For years we've heard the mantra that the free market must be allowed to run unfettered – yet the most 'capitalist' governments are nationalising huge companies left, right and centre. It just goes to show that capitalism is a myth and the sooner we stop wasting money propping up a failed system that will never work - the better. http://www.schnews.org.uk/archive/news647.htm Just how much more are we going to take of this crap? Trouble is we are not going to end up with capitalism failing to bring in any form of improvment, what we are seeign in action is captalism failing to bring in totalitarian absoloutism, we are seeing the beggining of police juntas, yet the media is so blinkered it won't even ask the questions that need asking let alone propose any conclusion that is not pre-approved. So if one is a banker or more accuratly a money changer, one can scrounge of the state as much as one wish, yet if one is starving and dying of hyperthermia one has to stop being a burden on the state .... well apparently banks are 5bn more of a burden in one day than anyone on welfare is in a year ..... so who should we be attacking and villifying in the popular media? As we approach a winter with quickly rising fuel bills, so those on state benefits are worse off than ever, as those on the poverty line struggle to survive, we see those who have created these false emergancies, getting bailed out, energy chiefs boasting that a harsh winter will mean record profits ..... the people who suffer from these bansk failing are the average workers, the employees who now face a winter potentially dependent on state benefits, as recipients of said benefits now cross class divisions in ways unprecedented before, we now see just how real the division between bourgoisie and proletariat is. Maybe if poverty striken folks all die from cold, starvation, suicide and the like we will generate enough money to bail out any bank and corporation that fails .... the image of capital surviving on the bodies of the working folks has never been more vivid. Maybe one day these diseased cancers on society will learn money is not the reason for living and can not be taken with you. Perhaps they will ask themselves who it was according to Christian Theology (a religion most claim lip service to) that Jesus threw out of the temple.

Earlier this year (in celebration of the Flannigan report) I conducted some preliminary research into police stop and search history, present and future - the results of the polices own records and statistics were less than promising, let alone none official reports and stats. I can heartily reccomend investigating this for yourselves, the figures are terrifying, especially in this age of social control, pushing for increased police powers, terrorism laws where suspects can be held practically indefinatly without legal representation. Wez's video only confirms pretty much those findings, police Stop and search is not as different to the old SUS style stop and search as we are led to beleive. becca wezDate: 12 Sep 2008, 14:46 please pass this video to your freinds. http://www. youtube. com/watch?v=PSba1onavCg
