By now I'm sure most of you who listen to our music have realised that TZU are not really the most Alpha male-ish kind of guys in Australian hiphop. we don't really swagger like we have something to prove. We don't aspire to the life style that you see advertised in film clips on video hits , we don't dumb ourselves down and Pip and I have never really written a proper battle rap. Oh well. In fact when it comes to subject matter we pride ourselves on exploring new frontiers and we try and handle well worn topics with something that I hope our audience recognises as originality. We've never really been too concerned wheather our lyrics have 'street' cred or if they make us sound tough and intimidating , which is not to say we don't wield anger , we just don't fashion armour out of it , in fact quite the opposite , our litmus test is - Is it authentic , does this make me more human and does it bounce ? The older I get the more I keep searching for that. Art that rings true. The same way that when you first hear Bill Hicks you think ' Fuck me , he's being a bit honest ' Or you see a Daniel Kitson show and think " Not a punch line in sight but I like the way his mind works". Or you see a Wes Anderson film and think " yep that makes me feel more accepting of my weird flaws and self doubts ". A long time ago in a galaxy far far away we decided that what we said was just as important as how we said it. And the music we said it on top of better be top shelf. Our first record Position Correction was made when Aussie hiphop was still teething. It was made when we were all young and idealistic and we wrote songs about summer. The production was handled mainly by Paso and Yeroc and was composed almost entirely by samples from old records.Position Correction was our most hiphop record and was as true to the traditional form as four misfits could manage. It still remains probably our most popular record amongst the hard core. Our second record Smiling at Strangers was made during a time when we were all feeling a bit sickened by the state of hiphop as a dominating consumer culture so we felt we needed to reach for something else , something outside our immediate sphere of influence. We plugged in guitars and mic'ed up drum kits and wrote songs about love and shit. We tried to subvert our own style , our own cliches and that of the genre we operated in. It alienated alot of people but was a liberating album to make. The new album 'computer love' feels like a perfect melding of the two. It subverts the genre but stays true to the form. It sounds familiar and totally experimental. The topics we rap about are self referential but also universal. Sure there are love songs and politics on there but we approached them differently. We also touch on domestic violence , drug addiction , work place psychosis , and man boobs. At some point we realised this album is the final in a trilogy. It's the apex. The album that fuses together what we did with Position Correction and what we tried to do with Smiling at Strangers. It's also the last official album on our label Liberation. I really hope you get to hear it....

Ladies , gentlemen , girls , boys , hermaphrodites , dogs , and anyone else who reads blogs..... We now have 10 mutha fucken tracks mixed for the new album which we have tentatively titled ’Computer Love’. We have 6 more to go and then ooh la la we will have our third opus completed. And did I mention that it sounds gooood... We are working with Tony Espie at Sing Sing studio’s. Tony Espie who is responible for mixing the Avalanches classic ’Since I left you’. Tony Espie who often enters into a vortex of delays and reverbs and emerges as the psycadelic banshee of love. As for singles , we will be releasing a song called Computer Love in the next month or two so listen out for it and keep checking our myspace as we will be putting up tracks from the album at random as little teasers. If anyone asks what the new TZU ish sounds like and you wanna flex , tell them that TZU have gone out in to space , re connected with their hiphop roots , collaborated with Aussie soul legend Renee Geyer , and tried to push the boundaries even further. Stay tuned folks...

Lyrics to Reminisce.
I got the letter that you wrote and it was typically distant While I read it I retraced your footprints searching for signs in your words and lines but, time has since severed ty's that bind Maybe you only get one shot and maybe I missed it I miss you , I wish you were here with me now I remember my time with you , in you , all that we have been through These memories are something I still cling to I catch glimpses in the faces of strangers , the strange thing I face is the same thing on all of their faces like we're all wearing a mask and everyone has got a someone who haunts their past This track is just a chronicle concerning us co-authored in eachother call it love call it trust I'll recite it in my sleep when I drea you back to me wheather or not your in my arms I will always set you free.
Reminiscing walking down these streets These days we don't even speak I think about you when I'm on my own I think about how much I've grown I'll kill the memory if you do to You hold me back like I do you Another break in this space and time all it does is just remind me of..
Since we last spoke I think I wrote a novel Let me sum it up , it goes babe I miss you I could say it in a million ways write a million songs on a million albums it will always come out wrong If I told you I was drowning would you throw me out a rope Even if I said don't I'd prefer to drown Would you hold your ground while I scrambled for mine would you dive in with me just to spend some time You were my refuge when it rained I would run to you for shelter when the weather pressure built up I would hide inside your cellar The sunnier the days became the more we tried to run till it happened that we both struck out and killed the sun For what it's worth the world is yours and all that's in it If I give you space can I one day come and visit If it's not to much to ask can I reserve a piece of sky in your heart just a part , you can set the limit.
Reminiscing walking down these streets These days we don't even speak I think about you when I'm on my own I think about how much I've grown I'll kill the memory if you do to You hold me back like I do you another break in this space and time all it does is just remind me of you.

I've had a surprising number of people tell me that they saw it. Probably cause they were hung over and there was nothing else on tellie. Anyway I've had a few people ask if I would post the poem that I performed on the Sunday Arts show on ABC. here it is unedited and unabridged with all the LSD and jesus testicles references still intact. Keep in mind that this poem is a performance piece and sounds better coming out of a mouth than it looks on a monitor.
I am by virtue of my own nature a passionate creature I'm a pizza eater , a police deciever , a fire breathing truth speaker with a meat cleaver ready for the head of Anthony Callea. I mean I'm a dreamer like Martin Luther or mark Viduka or Sargent Pepper I'm a flesh computer with a brain barretta The living personificaton of the alphabet right down to the last letter And language is a living entity according to Terrance Mckenna
I am by virtue of my ancestors , a traveling man... like a troubadour or a minstrel But I'm a minstrel with principle I'm a minstrel with principles that are simple I'm a minstrel with simple principles that are sensible like don't fight a war over petrol Don't follow governments that are deceptional And people who get plastic surgery look extra terrestrial. What else ? If jesus ever does comes back you'll find him at some hippie festival getting technical in a teepee drinking chi eating seaweed using his testicals in rituals getting mystical and sexual saying things like 'everybody be cool' I'ma be like 'word bro , pour me another glass of merlot' and get your testicles out of her inferno.
I am by virtue of my first few acid trips a foot soldier of the infinite paradox I use a mic like a cattle prod and I rattle locks when I connect the dots i'm a long list of issues to work through staying out way past my mental curfew and I'll immerse you in the glue of my world view and do whatever works dude But I warn you when I corner you with my point of view and I coin a few linguistically catchy platitudes i'm just a pawn like you. And my attitude is a growing fued bettween a brain that's bruised and a heart with a very short fuse Touch me and I will go boom.
I am by virtue of my Y chromesome another Napoleon , Hitler , Ossama Bin Al capone In that I'm capable of doing things that you can and can't condone I am muslim , hindu , buddhist and christian both perpetrator and victim I'm the dictionary definition of the human condition with a self sabotage gene and when it kicks in I'm capable of doing things which will make your head spin.
I am by virtue of my five senses in full support of pulling down fences From the imprisonment of the defenceless to middle east tensions to world leaders with tempers whose policies are senseless Every day I wake up and wonder where the dissent is I ask the previous generation about theirs but no one remembers It seems their fire burnt down to embers they forgot about the emphasis and got fat like that singer from Memphis did now they're busy in 9 to 5 trenches paying mortgages on weekenders where they holiday in Decembers buying white goods and blenders land cruisers and mercedes Benz'es.
But I am by virtue of my intellect ...just another damn hypocrite full of bullshit like a televangelist at a pulpit or a full sick Lars Ulrich. I listen to Bill Hicks and I'm painfully aware that this world is broken because the human race is fixed It's sick it's the pits and we're all in it's grip and it sits in my mind and it starts to play tricks But I still think of myself as an idealist with a wish list and a clenched fist and a french kiss for everything that exist from Tehran to Texas I'm a bleeding heart leftie pacifist amorous anarchist activist Cassius Clay kind of brain with a massive appetite for change.

So.... recently I got a job with Multi Cultural Arts Victoria. It wasn't a real job but it was an intereseting one. My mission statement was to collaborate on a piece of music or text with a barrister named Julian Burnside. For those of you familiar with his work , I'm sure you'll understand my near beatles level hysteria at meeting such a great man. For those of you unfamiliar , google now. As it turned out , it wasn't much of a collaboration. I met Burnside for coffee twice and we had some long and winding conversations about law and human nature. Here is one of the spoken word pieces inspired by those conversations.
Yeah , I saw it I couldn't believe my eyes Then the more I thought about it I wasn't that surprised It seems old fashioned racism is the new Aussie pride Just add a little hate and turn your barbie in to a riot ty the flag around your neck and wear it like a cape congregate and rendezvous and text message your mates And if you ain't white then it's likely you ain't safe Damn straight that shit that went down was all about race.
And don't it make you laugh when they talk about our values Most of what I'm proud of puts pollies in bad moods
I come from a country made up of convicts , dispossessed blacks and chinese gold miners immigrants and horse riders , sailors , saints and pirates all shapes and sizes , all colors and climates. So tell me why they stereo type us as blonde haired blue eyed kids.
I come from a country with a frontier mentality From Henry lawsons balladry to Brett Whitly in the gallery to magnificent natural savagery to Barry Humphries in a frock Where the women and the weather and the tempers are hot.
I come from a country of ill repute of giant oversized roadside fruit Where every meal has meat where our greatest military celebration was a stunning defeat Where our hero's are rat bags like Kelly and his gang The same hero's who the government of the day set out to hang.
And now they talk about our values and don't it make you laugh how can you know who you are if you don't know your past ?
Yeah , I saw it I couldn't believe my eyes Then the more I thought about it I wasn't that surprised two hundred thousand people on Sydney harbour bridge walked a mile In an effort to make peace with they're past and reconcile And all the shock jock radio dj's were struck dumb And even the most out of line minds didn't seem so numb No one was concerned with who was right or wrong And we were all proud of a country in which we all belong.
