The 8/30 DC show details have been released - this is a FREE show at the Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia MD, and it has been expanded into the "Virgin Mobile Freefest" festival, with several stages and many more bands than just Blink and Weezer. Note That even though the show is free, you do have to claim a ticket, and you may end up paying a small fee, either because of a ticket shipping fee or making a donation (which nets you the "Karma Package" which includes a nifty t-shirt). Lest I mix it up, see the site for the straight dope.

Weezer mailing list members were sent out their presale info and password earlier today, for the presale starting this Friday at 10am. The public onsale starts Saturday 6/27 at 10AM. (Yes, you DO need a ticket, even though they are free. Only so many people can fit into the Merriweather!)

...Weezer and plant life: a true story...
"We are two students at Brown Middle School in Madison, CT who, in science class, were forced to do an experiment on plants. So we thought, why not make it interesting. We decided to have the plants listen to music, we had one listen to Eminem, and the other listen to Weezer. We also had a control [plant]. The weezer plant listened to many of your songs such as Beverly Hills, Island in the sun, and say it ain’t so. After about a week of 10 minutes of music a day and watering every other day, the results were quite astounding. The weezer plant grew 5 out of 5 seeds into plants each with two leaves, the Eminem plant hardly even sprouted and the control only sprouted 2 out of 5 seeds. ...meanwhile, many have been wondering about the status of weezer's next album - their 7th! While theres not much that can yet be officially revealed, here's the basics as they now stand...
* The band worked with Jacknife Lee in Malibu, Santa Monica, and West L.A. between 11/08 and 1/09, recording a nice pile of songs. The songs were mixed in March '09 in NYC with Rich Costey. Now the band has more new songs they are excited about, so they will be doing some more recording soon. What exactly ends up on the new album, and what is saved for the future, remains to be seen.
* As usual, weezer has kept things interesting with new experiments and ideas. After this many albums, its a given that they will try some new theories out. However, one thing thats stayed the same this time is Rivers singing lead.
* There is no release date set. Rumors and speculation about a July release are unfounded. The album may come out in summer, or fall, or ???. We shall see.
* No title has been selected, rumors and speculation to the contrary.
* No 1st single has been selected. The 1st single will probably come out in the summer. Stay tuned.
* Yes, the album rocks.

....Folks, heres the new scoop - Weezer is headlining the KROQ Weenie Roast on May 16th, at Irvine Meadows in Irvine, CA! If you are or will be in SoCal at that time, clear your calendar and come on down to catch the first Weezer show since last fall! Of course Weenie Roasts feature a big list of bands (including Kings Of Leon, Jimmy Eat World...Silversun Pickups... Rancid... to name a few!) so theres plenty to take in... As they record their new album "Songs About Time" over the course of the year, they release new studio photos every single day, a new film every single week, and then a sweet dose of new music every 3 months - all through 2009. Just last week they released their latest film, the music video for "Song of Remembering". This song features Joey Santiago of the Pixies, who appears both on the track playing guitar, and in the video at work in the studio. Hawaii's Goat Punishment are playing a surprise show at the University of Hawaii Manoa Kwiki-mart style shop on campus May 6th at 6pm, and again on May 8th at The Spot.  

Jarkarta, Indionesia's Starwick will playing an all weezer cover show on may 7th, at the special event "Funkin epic: a tribute to weezer, faith no more and rage against the machine", at Mario's Place.
 
And a multi weez-tribute band event including Atlanta's El Scorcho and more: The "Geek Rock" show at Lenny's Bar in Atlanta on May 29th, with Kochis, The Warm Fuzzies, and El Scorcho, all who will be working songs by their favorite band weezer into their sets.

...Rentals update! Folks, you may be aware of former weezer bass man Matt's band, The Rentals. But you may not have been aware that they are releasing a new album this year, titled "Songs About Time". And you also may not have known that they are releasing it in 3 stages, and the first 4 songs are available now! Its great stuff folks, check it out - and now you know.

...Weezer Tribute band special edition! Jose and Ryen from Ozma (with some dudes from the band Teaneck) are doing a special one-off show May 16th at the Knitting Factory in Hollywood. They will be playing the Green Album in its entirety! ("Including 'I Do'", says Jose. "The Green Album came out may 15 in 2001 so its a true 8 year anniversary celebration.")

RIVERS CUOMO SET TO RELEASE 'NOT ALONE - RIVERS CUOMO & FRIENDS LIVE AT FINGERPRINTS' AS A DVD ON APRIL 28
 
Rivers Cuomo is pleased to announce the April 28th release 'Not Alone - Rivers Cuomo & Friends Live at Fingerprints' which will be available both as a DVD and as an EP. Not Alone has its origins in an in-store jam session Rivers Cuomo held at Fingerprints, a record store in Long Beach, CA. The event was a celebration for the release of 'Alone II - The Home Recordings Of Rivers Cuomo' on November 25, 2008. From a post on his website Rivers invited super fans from across the country to dress sharp and join him in a makeshift band. They helped pick a set list which ended up being a mix of Weezer classics as well as ultra-obscure fan favorites. The 150 lucky "friends" had never met or practiced together, but they fearlessly came to rock out with their favorite songs in what was a long, magical night.
 
Additional bonus footage on the DVD includes the video for "My Brain Is Working Overtime," an interview with actor Jason Schwartzman and this clip of Rivers speaking mere hours prior to the momentous in-store.

The CD features 6 songs from the in-store and an in-depth interview by NPR's Terry Gross from her show Fresh Air.
