Hey fellow Wizard Rock lovers!

About six months ago, Mark from Marked As His Equal and I were overwhelmed by then-recent global disasters, like the cyclone in Myanmar, the earthquake in China, and the war in Georgia. Seeing such tragedies that left so many children and families affected, we decided we wanted to do something to help. With the amazing contributions of over 30 wizard rock bands, that "something" has developed into a two-disc benefit compilation!

Show your support by adding us on MySpace!

100% of the profits from this album will benefit Save the Children. Plain and simple. We plan to produce a limited run of the album (so don't wait to pre-order), which features previously unreleased songs from The Remus Lupins, Draco and the Malfoys, Switchblade Kittens, House of Black, Catchlove, Justin Finch-Fletchley & the Sugarquills, Snidget, The Weasel King, The Nifflers, Hogwarts Trainwreck, Marked As His Equal, The Hinky Punks, Romilda Vane and the Chocolate Cauldrons, The Gryffindor Commonroom Rejects and many more!

Pre-sales are now up and running, and the album is scheduled for release in early April! A huge thank you to all of the bands that so generously contributed songs to this cause, and we simply can not wait to release From Beneath These Ashes to you! Thanks in advance for your support!

Love and Wrock,

Megan

Hey all!

We're a little behind, caught up in the craziness of life, but wanted to share these awesome tidbits with you!

First off, we were excited that the film was covered as part of MTV's week o' Harry Potter coverage! Take a look at the MTV article here!

Second, this came to our attention about a month ago...

I can not even begin to express how much this made us smile! Thank you so much to "TheOneEyedOwl," you totally rock!

You guys are all so awesome, and it just has been such a cool ride to share this experience with you. To those of you who've seen the movie, thanks for watching! To those who enjoyed it, thanks for letting us know. We love you all!

Thanks to the wrocking Willene Wadkins of Las Vegas, whom we met at the Clark County Library screening last week, The Wizard Rockumentary is now in the hands of Harry Potter star Dan Radcliffe. As quoted by MTV:

At his New York Times TimesTalk event on Tuesday (August 19), the actor was asked if he were planning to attend a local wizard-rock fest while he's in New York for the limited-engagement Broadway run of "Equus." "I've heard of wizard rock — Harry and the Potters, right? — but I haven't actually heard it yet."

The audience member — from Harry Potter meet-up club the Group That Shall Not Be Named — then handed Radcliffe a DVD of Megan and Mallory Schuyler's "The Wizard Rockumentary" film.

"That's awesome," he laughed. "Thank you very much. I've just been made aware of it."

Um... squeeeeeeeeeeee!

On that subject, I can think of nothing further to say other than excited squeeling sounds that don't belong in print, so, moving on.

Squeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! Okay, I'm done.

News on Terminus and the SoCal mini-tour soon!

Current mood:  blessed

It feels like I just stepped off the plane from Chicago and now I find myself back in the airport again. Terminus was one hundred shades of awesome. I'm still trying to wrap my mind around the amazingness of all that happened and all the wonderful people that we met. I am looking forward to going into more detail later, but I'm on my way to meet Megan and Mark (of MaHE) in Las Vegas for the start of our mini screening tour. If you are in the area, I hope we'll see you at one of the screenings/wrock shows over the next three days!

6:00 pm TODAY, Clark County Library, Las Vegas, NV
The Wizard Rockumentary, Marked As His Equal, The Remus Lupins, and The Whomping Willows!

3:30 pm Tomorrow, Escondido Public Library, Escondido, CA
The Wizard Rockumentary and Marked As His Equal!

1:00 pm August 16th, Santa Monica Public Library, Santa Monica, CA
The Wizard Rockumentary, The Remus Lupins, Switchblade Kittens, and The Whomping Willows!

Don't miss out on all the awesome! Thanks to everyone who made Terminus so fantastic (more on that next time), and huge thanks to everyone who's coming to wrock out with us today-Saturday!

Love and Wrock,

Mallory (from the Portland airport)

Current mood:  excited
It's amazing that almost four weeks have gone by since Portus, and already, Terminus is here!  We've been really busy making sure we have everything ready for five days of HP amazingness! Can you say Wrock Chicago?

The Wizard Rockumentary will be screening at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 9th, right after Alleycast Jen's awesome presentation, so make sure you set your alarms! Also, Mallory will be part of a panel on Women in Wizard Rock on Saturday, at 3:30.

We hope you'll be able to make it to the show, but if you can't for some reason (and you'd better have one heck of an excuse) we'll be in the vendor room all day Thursday, August 7 through Sunday, August 10, so please come by and say hi, because we'd love to see everyone!  We'll have DVDs, buttons, and t-shirts available, including an all-new t-shirt design we're premiering at Terminus. Oooooooooooooooooo :)

Can't wait to see everyone tomorrow in Chicago!

Love and wrock,

Megan and Mallory

Current mood:  indescribable

Megan and I have been looking forward to screening at the HP symposiums forever, so the anticipation surrounding Portus was pretty intense for us. It wasn't just that a lot of the people that are actually in the film would be seeing it for the first time, which is obviously a big deal, it was that we wanted the experiences that we captured to be meaningful and authentic to the fandom and this would be the real test. Over two and a half years of hard work was all leading up to this weekend. Would what we created touch those who it was created for, or had we gone and done something that was just okay (but still had a great time doing it)?

The reception was amazing. We ended up having three screenings on Saturday because the first had filled with pre-registrations and the second filled by Friday afternoon. People came up to us afterward crying, wanting hugs and pictures. It was magical. Some folks wanted autographs. The most meaningful thing to us was that everyone kept saying the film was beautiful, that we'd really captured it, and that it really mirrored their experiences.

At the three o'clock showing, which was the fullest, I was completely overwhelmed. The audience, which included many of the bands in attendance, the awesome Andrew Slack of HP Alliance, members of Wizrocklopedia and Alley Cast, new friends and old, clapped and cheered through almost the entire credits. When it was over and Meg and I moved to the front of the theater they kept clapping and the whole room gave us a standing ovation. I looked at Megan and I couldn't help but start crying right there in front of everyone. I looked at the audience to see so many faces that I have come to love and felt once again the sense of intense gratefulness for having been given this amazing experience and for being able to share it with so many amazing people.

It is difficult for me to recount the rest of the weekend, while still so vivid in my mind it pales before the intense emotions that I felt on Saturday. It was wonderful to see so many people that we had met along the way and also to meet so many new friends (we love you Gwen!). Seeing Keegan, Jen, and Jackie in person for the first time wrocked my world, and we were pleasantly shocked to see Sam, a HP fan from our hometown of Spokane, who we hadn't seen since a RL concert last year. We also got to see a live Alley Cast podcast and a couple wrock bands who we'd never seen perform before.

Moaning Myrtles totally wrocked! As usual. And we saw Ministry of Magic for the first time (below) accompanied by Jace of Catchlove and Christian of Oliver Boyd and the Rememberalls.

Since Portus had booked our third screening over performances by Owl Post, the Blibbering Humdingers, and Oliver Boyd and the Rememberalls, we invited the bands to come play a couple songs after the movie for the folks that missed their sets. Fred Lives and House of Black were awesome enough to come too since we missed their sets on Thursday while we were still traveling.

Saturday night ended with a bang. After a day of high emotions and no time to eat anything, we grabbed a quick bite with Erin and Fred then went and danced the night away with everyone we'd shared the weekend with.

We got about one hour of sleep before rushing to catch our shuttle to the airport and, as an added bonus, ran into Alex and Tyler from the Remus Lupins as they were checking in.

Thanks to everyone who made this weekend magical for us. There are so many memories that won't fit into this blog, but every word exchanged, every hug given and laugh shared, made this one of my favorite experiences of this whole Rockumentary adventure.

Love and Wrock,

Mallory

P.S. Thanks to everyone who signed the book or gave well wishes for Mark of MahE. He so wanted to be there and I know we all really missed him and look forward to his return to the scene. Feel better soon, Do!

Whew! Another whirlwind weekend under our belts, and looking forward to Portus in just over a week! Wow, what a summer! 2008 is one of my favorites so far...

So, Seattle was a total blast! :)

To kick off the fun, I got to make the trek over the mountains with Greg and Linda of the Hogwarts Trainwreck! They are awesome, and hilarious... and Greg drove, which is an adventure all itself!
Greg Driving

That's the same face I made when I realized we had our first critical review waiting for us... Bill White of the Seattle P.I. gave the movie a great write-up that you can read here. (He also gave us our first "Fresh" tomato on Rotten Tomatoes!) We were also covered in the Seattle Times, the Seattle Weekly, and The Stranger! Yea!

We arrived in Seattle with enough time to rush to the theater to say "hi" to the management (awesome guys Spenser, Joel, Brian, Brian, Ivan and Guerren),
Photobucket

...and then hustle over to the UW Bookstore to catch the Wizard Rock Concert / CD Release Party with The Parselmouths (CD coming soon), Alas Earwax (CD out and AWESOME), Tonks!, and a surprise opening performance by Colin and the Creeveys!

What better way to kick off our Seattle screenings then to dance along with some awesome wizard rockers? We had the chance to spread the word about the screening times and additional wizard rock performances, and were totally blown away when the bands informed us that they would be cutting their sets short so that they (and a healthy handful of the wrock fans in attendance) could follow us back to the 9:00 showing! This proves once again how amazing and supportive this community is... that we all were happy to work together, and as a result enjoy nearly 4 hours of wizard rock love!

(Photo by the awesome Hannah of the Unforgivable Curses)
Hogwarts Trainwreck wrocked our socks off before the screening Friday, and again between screenings on Saturday afternoon! On Saturday, we also delighted in performances by Julian of Colin and the Creeveys, and Grace and Kathy of the Fizzing Whizbees in their first performance EVER! Both bands did exceptionally well, with melodic voices and alternately humorous and touching lyrics.

After the 5:00 screening rolled, we and the bands gathered under the theater marque and at the theater entrance for keepsake photos, and then parted ways in the brutal heat... Can't wait to coax them to Spokane sometime. ;)

Photobucket

We also met Hannah of the Unforgivable Curses, and Kristi and Sonja of The Ravenclaw Ties! There are so many cool people in this community, it boggles the mind.

Other than the great music, the exciting media coverage, and the amazing audience with which to share the movie over the weekend, we had one other cool surprise. The manager of the Grand Illusion also works at one of the most incredible video stores I've ever been to... Scarecrow Video. And he wanted to carry the Wizard Rockumentary! So the DVD is now available ON SHELVES in Seattle as well as Spokane (at the awesome Boo Radley's downtown)! Woohoo!

We are continuing to work on screenings around the country, and when we get home from Portus we'll spill the beans and update our screening schedule! ;) More soon...

Current mood:  cooky/wacky
As we are all slipping into our strides this summer, it's pretty cool to think about all of the awesome Wizard Rock events going on all over the country and the world. With so many new bands still popping up, and so many established bands touring, it is a good season to be a wizard rock fan! ;) For those of us in Washington State, we were psyched to welcome Alex back through town last week, and it was made better by only having to say goodbye until Portus. Life is good.

On the Wizard Rockumentary front, we are very excited to be going into a week's worth of screenings at The Grand Illusion Cinema in Seattle, WA: The longest running independent cinema in the city!

From Friday, June 27th through Thursday, July 3rd, the film will be shown at 7:00PM and 9:00PM daily, as well as 3:00PM and 5:00PM on the weekend. But to make things way cooler, the rockumentary will be joined by three awesome wrock bands!

FRIDAY, June 27th 8:30PM (between 7:00 & 9:00 screenings): Hogwarts Trainwreck!
SATURDAY, June 28th 2:30PM (before 3:00 screening): Colin and the Creeveys, and The Fizzing Whizbees!
SATURDAY, June 28th 4:30PM (between 3:00 & 5:00 screenings): Hogwarts Trainwreck!

In case you haven't met these fantastic Washington State wrock bands yet, here is a closer look...

Colin and the Creeveys bio:
"On July 16th, 2006, Julian Weller saw Harry & the Potters and Draco & the Malfoys play a benefit show at 826. The sense of optimism and communal power at the show was overwhelming, and after two years of completely inexplicable procrastination, Colin and the Creeveys have finally recorded a few of the songs written so long ago. With un-squelchable optimism and the huggy-armed support of the wrock world, there is hope for a debut album release this summer. About freakin' time!"

The Fizzing Whizbees bio:
"The Fizzing Whizbees are two Harry Potter-crazed girls who love to WRock out! Grace and Kathy are both from Seattle and are completely dedicated to the WRock Revolution and anyone who loves Harry Potter. They're willing to play most shows anywhere and everywhere in the Seattle area. Like all Wizard Rock, Kathy and Grace put love in their music, and have loads of fun with it!"

Hogwarts Trainwreck bio:
" ALL ABOARD for some marvelous musical magic! Singer/songwriter/satirist Greg Gower ascends to the controls of the Hogwarts Express ... and almost manages to keep it on the rails! You'll hear hymns to Hermione, dirges by the Dark Lord, and a shimmering waltz set to the romantic chaos of the year that "Hormones Hit Hogwarts." Whether you be Muggle, Wizard or Witch, you're guaranteed to find hummable tunes and literate lyrics as this longtime Harry Potter fan both rhapsodizes and tweaks his favorite series. Joined by Linda Gower - Nosy reporter (Rita Skeeter) who sings backup when her busy schedule allows."
-----
We can't wait to see these bands play (first time for CatC and tFW), and hope any wizard rock fans in the area will be able to join us at one of the screenings!

Keep cool, keep wrocking, and keep on that sunscreen!
