I just wanted to remind everyone that the next issue of my newsletter (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/bickbrownZHnewsletter) will be out sometime towards the end of July, so if you wanted to enter the contest for a chance to win a $10 amazon.com gift certficate to do so while you still have time.

Also, since the contest is centered on a story in my collection, A TASTE OF ECSTASY, check out my guest blog at Oh, Get a Grip! and read about sex in the outdoors and public places. Many of the stories in A Taste of Ecstasy have this theme, and incorporate great humor and cool twists.

The blog entry is only about 500 words, so take a moment to chill and have a good laugh.

The contest info is pasted below if you've missed it.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The next contest is easy. Answer the following question and send your answer to bicknellbrown@ sbcglobal. net and put “CONTEST” in the subject.
Question: In A Taste of Ecstasy, what words are on the back of Angie’s shorts in the story Dirty Laundry?
One correct answer will be chosen and the winner will receive a $10 amazon.com gift certificate. Winner will be announced in the next official newsletter.
Hello everyone!
The Lori Foster Get-Together was a blast! If you'd like to see some of the photos of it, go to the blog on my website
www.faithbicknellbrown.com and check them out.
Also, I'll be around more to chat, visit, blog, etc. I decided that the only way to succeed with my career and move forward was to resign from Red Rose Publishing and focus solely on my writing. I have so many WIPs that I'll be busy for quite some time. Honestly, this is a very liberating feeling. I'm also returning to print magazine submissions and ezines. I already have a few subs out now.
Stay tuned!
Hello everyone!
My latest author newsletter will be released today. I've included my info for meetings at the Lori Foster Convention as well as giving away a previously published title of mine--a sizzling-hot one that has two stories tied together--and a nice li'l contest.
If you're not a subscriber, what I'm doing now (Yahell has ticked me off one too many times) is send a PDF of my newsletter as well as a normal one through my newsletter group. Starting with this edition, you can also access newsletters on the group in the FILES section.
Yes...yes, I know I've been scarce of late.
Somehow I find myself with 17 pending manuscripts to edit, not to mention the work of my private authors. My hours have moved up to nearly full time at the carryout, and I'm working hard and fast to finish a WIP I'll be sending to my agent soon.
In the meantime, I'm dealing with kids at home, trying to put a garden in between raindrops, and have more stress right now than I do sense.
I'll be back in a coupla weeks!
So many people think that the life of a writer is glamorous. I hate to disappoint them, but unless the writer is a big NYC author name, the writing life can suck canal water.
Many who knew me as Zinnia before I came out about my identity loved the stories I blogged about regarding the chickens and the 6 kids. Well, the chickens were for comedic relief, but the six kids (which I kept as all boys in my blog because they were the majority) are real.
Anyone who has a big family or grew up in one knows that the funds needed to support such a family are high and most often difficult to come by.  Think of the movie Yours, Mine, and Ours (the original movie) and recall the scenes where they went to the store and where the prepared meals—and no, I’m not kidding!  For a while, we even had 7 kids (that’s ten people in one household) living under our roof, but three of those boys have now moved on, so there are only 6 of us under this roof now—and getting by is still difficult, especially during the current economic chaos.
But being a professional freelance writer and editor, I’m often told I must make a killing off of editing manuscripts for others and my stories.
Uh, wrong.
First, freelancing is either feast or famine. And with magazines and e-zines schedules, I can sell a story now and not get paid for it until this time next year. Most publications like this have gone to the payment on publication method, which sucks. The sales a writer makes with an e-publisher depends on the publisher itself, the genre he or she writes, promotions, size of h/her reader base, and so on.
And nowadays, a first-time novelist (in NYC it’s a term used for an author who hasn’t had a NYC published novel before) doesn’t get that big of an advance, especially with the current economy. (And don’t get me started on Myers and the sparkly vampire Twilight series...yuck!)
So, although my hubby works fulltime, I work nights at a local carryout to help with expenses and it still doesn’t help much when raising such a big family.
And then when you add the problem of health coverage to the mix, hoo-boy! Health coverage? What frickin’ health coverage? My kids get state-run Healthy Start coverage because to put everyone on my hubby’s crappy health plan it’s takes half of our monthly income and that’s not counting the high deductibles and high co-payments for meds and office visits. Due to this, we qualified for supplemental coverage through the state; in other words, when coverage causes a hardship in Ohio, we qualified for state health insurance; and they paid part and the hubby’s insurance picked up part.
Got a letter Friday from the state letting us know that our insurance for me and the hubby is now no more.  After a while, we were put on transitional coverage which means we had 12 months to find new insurance.
Uh. Hello? There is no affordable family insurance out there! The hubby has insurance he pays nearly $200 a month just for him!
And yes, there are insurance policies out there for freelance writers and authors, but they’re not cheap either.
So if you think the life of a writer is full of money and glamour, it’s a job just like any other out there only we, as writers, enjoy our jobs and can become other personalities, stepping into new worlds.
But it would be nice to get a break and land a contract like Stephen King or Nora Roberts gets. At least then I could afford health insurance for my family.
It was a day that I could've done without, but since I owed Four Strong Women a blog post, I wrote about it. In the mood for a laugh? Here ya go.
Update: MySpace really ticks me off. I don't know why it's disabling the link because there's nothing wrong with the post other than a few every-day cuss words. Copy and paste the link into your browser if you'd like to read the crazy story. (Thanks for nothing myspace!)
I'm so sorry I haven't been by to blog for so long! I've been working my ass off at my new job, then when I'm not there, I'm playing catch-up during the day or my days off on my editing projects, my writing, family stuff, errands, etc., plus my one dau is in hs softball now. It's been nuts here on the Brown homefront!
I do, however, have some good news. One of my new titles debuted today. If you like humor with heat, and unusual life circumstances with spice, please take a moment to check out the following.
How about a brief excerpt? And yes, I've written for UK editors, so here's a bit of British flavor from the collection. I hope you enjoy it.
Can owning a bed-and-breakfast become a double entendre? Oh, yes, in more ways than one.......
....
Cuppa Romp....
....
          Managing a B&B alone in ..Brighton.. had been hard. My husband died two years ago, and I had been so lonely that everything about life looked grey.....
My life changed the morning Simon signed his name on the registry, took his key, and offered me an erotic smile that nearly ignited my knickers. I stood looking at him like a dumb cow, my mouth hanging open. I watched him ascend the staircase, admiring his firm bum. I have always loved a man with big rough hands and broad shoulders, and his arse looked great in his suede trousers!....
"Mum, your gob is hanging open," Lillian said.....
          Heat singed my cheeks. "No one could ever replace your father."....
"Who said anything about replacing Dad? You need a good shag."....
          "He's at least ten years younger than I am!"....
"Who cares as long as he can make you come?" Lillian retorted.....
"No young stud is going to want sex with a forty-year-old widow with a bum that you could park a lorry under."....
          "Mum, you're an attractive woman," Lillian said.  "You have big boobs and a bum that matches. You look positively voluptuous."....
I had been forlorn and celibate since Toby became sick, but I wasn't about to fuck the first man who caught my eye!....
          Lillian retrieved her wallet and coat. "I'm off to do a bit of shopping," she announced as she stepped out the front door.....
          I watched her go, a small pang of jealousy skewering my gut. I once looked like Lillian when I was her age. Her long chestnut hair, green eyes, and hourglass figure kept the men flocking around her. A knot of guilt settled in my belly. It was wrong to feel envious of my own daughter. Glancing down at the large bosoms straining against my dress front, I smoothed my hands over my too-wide womanly hips. A young man wouldn't want a widow with too many miles on her body.....
............................................................................The following morning, I stood in the kitchen cleaning up the breakfast debris. The door opened softly behind me.....
"G'morning, bird," a male voice said. "Is there something left for breakfast? P'raps a few bangers?"....
          Turning, my heart stuttered. Simon looked wonderfully handsome in dark trousers and a jumper that matched the deep green of his eyes. He favored me with a wide, endearing smile that made my legs wobble as if someone had replaced my knees with lemon curd. Even so, a bit of anger flashed through me. Not so much at Simon as myself. I wasn't a young girl any more. Guests were not permitted in the kitchen; a sign was even posted on the door. Most of all, I was angry at how I had let a young man, a good ten years my junior, rattle me sexually. I could almost see chemistry sparks flying off my body. Did Simon sense the effect he had upon me?....
          "I'm sorry, luv. Did I frighten you?"....
          Yes, he did frighten me. Not in the sense that I felt danger, but in how he made butterflies explode within me and how I couldn't breathe when our gazes met. Again, my brain stopped functioning, and words refused to come out of my mouth. ....
          Simon leaned close, looking over my shoulder. He smelled like fresh linen and musk, making my senses spin.....
          "I could use a cuppa," he said close to my ear.....
          Those five words, spoken so softly fluttered upon my nape like a gentle wren. A fiery sensation swept through my body, and when I looked up at him, his mouth met mine. A small surprised exhalation escaped me, and standing rigidly as he explored my mouth, I wondered if my heart would explode, every nerve ending in my body going hugger-mugger.....
          Raising his head, he whispered, "There now, that wasn't so bad, was it?"....
          I honestly don't know what came over me. The next thing I knew, I grabbed him, pulling him toward me.
