In the past several weeks, everyday Americans made calls to their representatives in Washington and collected hundreds of thousands of pledges in support of President Obama's budget.

Watch the video of volunteers delivering the pledges to Congress and read the President's message thanking everyone who helped the budget pass the House and the Senate.



Here's the thank you message from President Obama:

Thanks in no small part to your incredible work and dedication, we have taken another step towards creating jobs and rebuilding our struggling economy.

Last week, the budget I submitted to Congress passed both the House and the Senate and it embraces our most fundamental priorities: an energy plan that will end our dependence on foreign oil and spur a new clean energy economy; an education system that will give our children the tools to compete in the economy of the 21st century; and health care reform that finally confronts the back-breaking costs plaguing families, businesses and government alike.

Thousands of you signed pledges of support, knocked on doors, made phone calls, and talked to your friends and neighbors about this budget and the investments it makes in our long-term prosperity. You showed Washington that ordinary citizens are demanding change and are willing to work for it.

Our work on the budget isn't finished -- Congress still has to agree on a final version. But your efforts have sent a message that Washington can't ignore.

I'll be counting on you even more in the coming weeks and months. The budget Congress passes will be a critical blueprint for the changes we'll bring about. But that's when the real work begins -- the work that will bring health care to every American, transform our economy to run on clean energy, provide our children with the best education in the world, and bring about a new era of prosperity.

Today, the President invited everyone to use a new feature on WhiteHouse.gov called "Open for Questions"
to ask a question about the economy and rate other questions up or
down.  Then, on Thursday morning, the President will conduct a special
online town hall on the economy and answer some of the most popular
questions and the event will be streamed on WhiteHouse.gov.

On Saturday morning President Obama touched on the agenda of his budget proposal in his weekly video address. He discussed some of the lessons learned from his time spent outside Washington recently, which only reinforced the core principles in his budget:


Last week, I spent a few days in California, talking with ordinary Americans in town halls and in the places where they work. We talked about their struggles, and we talked about their hopes. At the end of the day, these men and women weren’t as concerned with the news of the day in Washington as they were about the very real and very serious challenges their families face every day: whether they’ll have a job and a paycheck to count on; whether they’ll be able to pay their medical bills or afford college tuition; whether they’ll be able to leave their children a world that’s safer and more prosperous than the one we have now.

Those are the concerns I heard about in California. They are the concerns I’ve heard about in letters from people throughout this country for the last two years. And they are the concerns addressed in the budget I sent to Congress last month. ... These investments are not a wish list of priorities that I picked out of thin air – they are a central part of a comprehensive strategy to grow this economy by attacking the very problems that have dragged it down for too long: the high cost of health care and our dependence on foreign oil; our education deficit and our fiscal deficit. - President Barack Obama

President Obama released a special video message for all those
celebrating Nowruz. Translated "New Day," Nowruz marks the arrival of
spring and the beginning of the New Year for millions in Iran and other
communities around the world.  This year, the President wanted to send
a special message to the people and government of Iran on Nowruz,
acknowledging the strain in our relations over the last few decades.
"But at this holiday we are reminded of the common humanity that binds
us together," he says.

After committing his administration to a future of honest and
respectful diplomacy, he continues on to address Iran's leaders
directly: "You, too, have a choice.  The United States wants the
Islamic Republic of Iran to take its rightful place in the community of
nations.  You have that right -- but it comes with real
responsibilities, and that place cannot be reached through terror or
arms, but rather through peaceful actions that demonstrate the true
greatness of the Iranian people and civilization.  And the measure of
that greatness is not the capacity to destroy, it is your demonstrated
ability to build and create."

Before his Election Night speech last night, Barack sent out this message to suppporters:

I'm about to head to Grant Park to talk to everyone gathered there, but I wanted to write to you first.

We just made history.

And I don't want you to forget how we did it.

You made history every single day during this campaign -- every day you knocked on doors, made a donation, or talked to your family, friends, and neighbors about why you believe it's time for change.

I want to thank all of you who gave your time, talent, and passion to this campaign. We have a lot of work to do to get our country back on track, and I'll be in touch soon about what comes next.
