THE SEA, GRAMMY WINNER CORINNE BAILEY RAE’S NEW ALBUM,
SET FOR FEBRUARY 2ND RELEASE ON EMI’S CAPITOL RECORDS

On February 2nd, 2010, EMI’s Capitol Records will release Corinne Bailey Rae’s new album, The Sea. The record was co-produced by Bailey Rae with Steve Brown, and Steve Chrisanthou, who produced many of the songs on her debut album, which has sold four million copies worldwide. Fans can check out behind-the-scenes footage of Corinne recording the album and hear a preview of music from The Sea at her website, http://www.corinnebaileyrae.net/.

Bringing together a new band of musicians, Bailey Rae recorded the album mainly in Leeds and Manchester, England. Her voice, always an expressive and soulful instrument, resonates with a poignant and newfound depth on The Sea. Loss and grief are recurring themes yet a sense of beauty and wonder ultimately radiates from the album’s dark corners.

“There is something miraculous that pushes you along, makes you keep going, makes you carry on. It’s really about the mystery of that. In fact, the whole album is about that in a way; it’s about loss but it’s also about hope, about keeping going and trying to find that beauty,” Bailey Rae told the U.K.’s Observer Music Monthly, which hailed The Sea as “an extraordinarily intimate and impassioned album” in its recent cover story on her, which can be found at: http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/2009/oct/04/corinne-bailey-rae-interview

In June 2006, her self-titled debut album entered the U.K. album chart at #1 and The Billboard 200 at #17. Within the year, Bailey Rae had won a Q award, a MOJO award, an Image award and two MOBO awards and appeared on a host of television shows, including “Saturday Night Live,“ “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno,” “Late Night with Conan O’Brien,” “The Oprah Winfrey Show,” “Good Morning America” and “Ellen.” She was nominated for three GRAMMY® awards – “Record Of The Year” and “Song Of The Year” for her first single, “Put Your Records On,” and “Best New Artist.” Her remarkable performance on the 2007 GRAMMY Awards telecast propelled her album into the Top 5 of The Billboard 200. The following year, “Like A Star,” her second single, was nominated for “Song Of The Year” and Herbie Hancock’s River: The Joni Letters, on which Corinne appeared, won the GRAMMY for “Album Of The Year.”

Bailey Rae will play a select number of shows in the States and her native U.K. this December; details will be announced shortly.

"Corinne Bailey Rae and her family have been touched by the huge amount of love and support that’s flooded in from all over the world, and that is really helping all of us cope at this terrible time. Corinne is also very grateful for the privacy she is being given and the respect that has been paid to herself and Jason." - Bob Miller, manager of Corinne Bailey Rae.

Corinne's song "Like A Star" has been nominated for 'Song Of The Year' at the 2008 Grammy Awards. Her reaction to this great news was "I'm really excited and pleased that "Like A Star" has been nominated. I wasn't expecting a nomination this year as it's the second year running for me, which is amazing! I'm already looking forward to getting my frock on for the big night."

If that wasn't enough, Corinne is also included in the Album of the Year category for her contribution to Herbie Hancock's "River: The Joni Letters".

Fingers crossed!

Corinne has become Ambassador for CORD, the UK's leading Christian charity working exclusively with refugees and people affected by conflict around the World.

'I am delighted to be involved in promoting CORD's peace building role to a global audience' said Corinne.

'People need to be made more aware of the vital job that CORD is doing in some of the most difficult places with those who have had to flee from war and violence, often losing everything; their families, their homes and their belongings.

'Many are young people, a large number are orphans, and CORD helps them to get back on their feet, to build a new life, which is why I want to lend them my support in any way I can,' she explained.

CORD's Director Michael Godfrey said that Corinne's involvement would help the charity to raise awareness of its peace building programmes with Darfuri refugees in Chad; with former abducted child soldiers and young sex slaves in Northern Uganda; and with refugees returning to DRC and Burundi. The charity has also returned to Cambodia, a country still suffering from the legacy of the Khmer Rouge.

'Corinne's support will be invaluable, and we look forward to working with her and to her visiting our programmes,' he said.

CORD has worked in 25 countries over the past 40 years, from Vietnam to Rwanda, Kosovo to Iraq and Afghanistan. The charity currently spends £2.6million a year on programmes & partnerships in ninecountries and works with all people, regardless of race, creed, colour or political & religious persuasion.
