Hey friends,

I haven't used this thing in a long time.  Sorry if I've missed your mail or request or other thing - I started to feel like "The Internet" was changing the way my brain operated in a negative way so I've sort of cut back my use, it's been good.  We just recently finished our final tour "in support of" our first record and EP and now won't be scheduling any shows or tours until we're further along with the next record, which we've been writing but haven't started recording and probably won't for a little while now... nothing bad just gonna take stock and try and come back with something good rather than something just to keep the machine moving.  We do have two shows to benefit the BRIDGE SCHOOL in october and after that we're just settling in - found a new studio space to rent in Seattle that's been home to many great recordings that we're stoked to occupy and explore - thank you for your patience!!!  The Port Townsend odyssey was fun but ended up semi-fruitless.  I forget how to write songs.  Woohoo!

I also wanted to mention that brother JOSH TILLMAN'S new record Year in the Kingdom is now out digitally and will be out physically in the next few days. It's a really beautiful album and I think you will all enjoy it, it can occupy similar shelf space as PINK MOON without being sneezed at I assure.  Buy it! And see him on his numerous tours this fall and winter.

Alright, off.  Thanks dudes!

Hullo.

So I am holed up in Port Townsend in the house we've rented to make the next record in. My dad's been helping paint the place, get room dividers set up, switch out lights, find furniture stuff, etc etc and it is feeling very nice... The oil heater makes the timbers expand and contract and creak pretty loud so we may have to record the whole album with no heat on (sorry dudes) but other than that it's good. Barking dogs and lots of land. Had coffee this morning with some starling-looking birds and a robin or two. S, J, C, and C are meeting me up here tomorrow to get started practicing in the attic here. We've got a bunch of songs to start figuring out and I started some more today so there's lots to do.

Anyway, I wanted to write a little note saying thank you for supporting us. I feel like our group of "fans" is a particularly engaged, intelligent, and thoughtful group and that more than anything is super rewarding to me. I really appreciate all the heartfelt messages from those of all ages about the music. I appreciate the invitations to play at alpine lakes in British Columbia (someday). I appreciate the dialog we are able to have sometimes on this site about topics from a to z. I dig all the dudes after shows that can school me on obscure British folk singers, the dudes with radio shows, the beardo's and the clean shaven, the dudes in No Age tshirts (YES), the awesome people that give us crystals and rocks after the show (much appreciated and well-displayed all), the people who drove 4 hours to see us, the english majors, the folks that can finish the Simpsons quote I'm trying to remember, the 60 year old kindhearted ponytailed dad with his obviously well-raised and worldly kids. I'm into all of it. I feel really good about you guys. If a band gets the supporters they deserve then I feel like we have really hit the jackpot with you all and it's a warm fuzziness to feel that way.

So, that's all I wanted to say, just a big huge thank you for being really cool, all of you, that I've had the pleasure to meet. Except for that one guy.

Best,
Softy

(I think I avoided any incendiary material with this one.)
