Back in the fall, Gavin performed in NYC at Central Park for a PBS mini series entitled “The National Parks: America’s Best Idea”.This is a six-episode series directed by Ken Burns and written and co-produced by Dayton Duncan. Filmed over the course of more than six years at some of nature's most spectacular locales – from Acadia to Yosemite, Yellowstone to the Grand Canyon, the Everglades of Florida to the Gates of the Arctic in Alaska - THE NATIONAL PARKS: AMERICA'S BEST IDEA is nonetheless a story of people: people from every conceivable background – rich and poor; famous and unknown; soldiers and scientists; natives and newcomers; idealists, artists and entrepreneurs; people who were willing to devote themselves to saving some precious portion of the land they loved, and in doing so reminded their fellow citizens of the full meaning of democracy.

As you all know, Haiti has just been hit with a catastrophic natural disaster.  The recent earthquake has killed tens of thousands of people already, and I’m sure that death toll is going to continue to rise.  I believe it is our duty as Americans to do whatever we can to help these people and this country.  I am so lucky to have what I believe to be the greatest and most giving fans in the world.  For this reason, I come to you all again, asking you do whatever you can in terms of a donation. 

I am once again teaming up with my friends at the United Nations Foundation (who I work with on the Nothing But Nets campaign), to help with the Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF).  Your generous donations will help deliver urgent medical care, food, and water to the victims of the earthquake in Haiti.  Because thousands of the United Nations staff are already on the ground in Haiti, your donation will get to work ASAP. 

Thank you so much for being so receptive to all of the incredible amount of needs that exist in the world.  Some may seem more urgent than others, but all of them are important.  I’m sorry if it sounds as if I am bombarding you with works of charity, but it’s only with humanity in mind that we present the opportunity to help where you can.

The images of the devastating earthquake in Haiti are heart breaking. These first 48 hours are critical to relief efforts.

While they have already lost many friends and colleagues, the UN will stay on the front lines of the relief effort during this critical period.

You can help by making a tax-deductible donation right now to the UN Foundation for the UN’s Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF)

The CERF provides immediate assistance during crisis and coordinates relief efforts on the ground. The time between an appeal for assistance and disbursement can be long. This delay costs lives. The CERF fulfills a critical gap, allocating funds within hours of an emergency -- coordinating aid, reducing gaps and overlaps, and avoiding wasted resources.

Long after the story fades from the headlines, the UN and the UN Foundation will still be there.   Please be there with us by making a donation.

As you all know, Gavin is very charitable with a lot of different organizations. The TJ Martell Foundation is another one very close to Gavin's heart. They raise money for Leukemia, Cancer, and AIDS research. Gavin has participated and performed at many of their events. Please take a minute to check out their site at www.tjmartellfoundation.org.
