LOS ANGELES — The energy was electric Monday night (February 1) at Henson Studios as more than 80 of music’s biggest stars gathered for a charity remake of “We Are the World” in support of Haitian earthquake relief.

“I feel like a kid in a candy store,” Wyclef Jean said, speaking to the press about the idea of remaking such an iconic song, which is getting production help from RedOne and Will.I.Am. “What’s bigger than a contribution is that you lend your voice,” the Haitian native said earlier in the day to his peers while trying to inspire them during the session, which began around 3 p.m. and was expected to last well into the night.

Among the voices in the 81-member choir were Pink, Lil Wayne, Kanye West, Nick Jonas, LL Cool J, Robin Thicke, Celine Dion, Akon, Rob Thomas, Wyclef, Jeff Bridges, Vince Vaughn, Barbra Streisand, Jordin Sparks, Good Charlotte’s Madden brothers, Tony Bennett, Josh Groban, Snoop Dogg, Justin Bieber, Jennifer Hudson, Keri Hilson, Jamie Foxx, Tyrese, Katharine McPhee, Sean Garrett, Will.I.Am, Carlos Santana, Melanie Fiona, Enrique Iglesias, Toni Braxton, Jason Mraz, Miley Cyrus, Busta Rhymes, Nicole Scherzinger, Nicole Richie, Usher, Julianne Hough, Raphael Saadiq, Zac Brown, India.Arie, “American Idol” judge Randy Jackson, Musiq Soulchild, Heart’s Ann and Nancy Wilson, Fonzworth Bentley, Kid Cudi, Iyaz, Bizzy Bone, Nipsey Hussle, the Beach Boys’ Brian Wilson and Al Jardine, Trey Songz, Faith Evans, Mya and Gladys Knight. (At press time, the full list of participants was not yet available.)

Kanye, wearing a red jacket with sparkling gold crisscross accents, stood center in the front row, between Wyclef and Hudson.

Among the soloists whose sessions were screened for journalists at press time were Bieber, Dion and Groban. Weezy also came out and humbly noted that he recorded the solo originally sung by Bob Dylan.

The inspirational lyrics were laid down over a track that had a more modern Southern hip-hop bounce to it. The recording session took place almost 25 years to the day since the original song for African famine relief was recorded.

"The experience was out of this world," said Bieber, who sang Lionel Richie’s original opening line. The video for the song, which is being shot in 3-D, will debut February 12 during coverage of the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics on NBC.

The 2010 Lilith Tour is pleased to announce exciting line-up additions to the summer touring festival: Loretta Lynn, Heart, Norah Jones, Cat Power, Sia, Gossip, La Roux, Beth Orton, Ceci Bastida, Erin McCarley, Frazey Ford, Julia Othmer, Kate Nash, Lights, Missy Higgins, Lissie, Marina & The Diamonds, Priscilla Renea, Rosie Thomas, Melissa McClelland, Toby Lightman and Elizaveta. More major artists will be announced in the coming weeks.

Additional Cities Announced

Additionally, 15 more cities have been revealed, with more to come in the next few weeks: Edmonton, San Diego, Phoenix, Salt Lake City, St. Louis, Indianapolis, Detroit, Hartford, Raleigh, Charlotte, Nashville, West Palm Beach, Tampa, Houston and Austin.

More artist thoughts on joining the 2010 Lilith Tour:

Country legend Loretta Lynn:

"I'm happy they wanted me on this Lilith tour. I have never done shows just with other girl singers before. When I first started out, they said girl singers couldn't sell records or concert tickets. We've come a long way since then and we're gonna have a big time out there!"

Rock duo Ann and Nancy Wilson of Heart:
"We are thrilled that Lilith 2010 is in our future...to be a part of all that depth and power will be beyond exciting! This is stunning intent for women of the new decade.”

Australian singer/songwriter Missy Higgins:
“Lilith Fair was always one of those things that I wish I'd been a cool enough kid to know about and go to! But even if I had known about it then, I would've been on the other side of the world here in Australia. I've always secretly hoped they'd bring it back so that I could beg to be a part of it! Needless to say I'm really excited to have been asked, especially as this is the first Lilith to be taken to the new generation.”

The 2010 Lilith Tour previously announced a multi-platform media partnership with ABC Entertainment, which entails creative collaboration in weaving confirmed artists and Lilith across ABC’s programming and online in the months leading up to and during next summer’s tour, including ABC’s physical presence at each tour date.

Heart will appear with Lilith Fair July 15 in Kansas City, July 17 in Chicago and July 18 in Minneapolis. More details to follow.

Ann and Nancy Wilson Release "Baby Guitars" CD and "Dog & Butterfly" Children's Book

Ann Wilson and Nancy Wilson of the world-famous group Heart have created an engaging children's book based on Dog & Butterfly, the iconic song they also penned.

"I wanted to create a story for the very little ones that conveyed the message of the song about the miracle that happens one sunny day to a tenacious little puppy who refuses to give up and catches his dream,” said Ann Wilson.  “It's my hope that, read aloud, it will be a fun and happy experience for readers and children, teaching the gentle lessons of patience and optimism.  We tried to give the illustrations lots of character and color, so that Dog & Butterfly becomes a permanent addition to the ‘story-before-bed’ shelf!”

Her adorable tale is destined to be a story time favorite, bringing to life the tale of a little dog whose only desire is to befriend a butterfly – and the determination and perseverance that help him reach his goal.  Ms. Wilson’s lush illustrations help set the tone while her talented sibling Nancy contributed her own whimsical drawings of butterflies. Ann and Nancy Wilson have also recorded a brand-new version of Dog & Butterfly, the hit song from the double-platinum album of the same name, specifically for the children’s book project.  The song will be available for download only with the purchase of the book.

From USA TODAY:

Baby Guitars, Nancy says, has been well "road-tested" on children. She wrote and recorded the songs with Heart guitarist Craig Bartock five years ago as a gift for a pregnant pal. Up until now, the recordings have been heard only by family and friends.

"Friends of mine have said, 'Oh, my God, this music really works on my kids,' " says Nancy, 55. "They'll be in meltdown mode, and you put it on and there's sort of this atmospheric change in the room." (Click to read whole article)

AUTHORIZED HEART BIO HITS BOOKSHELVES AMIDST RESURGENT 2008 FOR BAND

Jake Brown's "Heart: In The Studio" Focuses on Artistry That Made Heart Rock Legends

Coincides With Flurry of Reissues & High-Profile 40-Plus Date National Tour

(Los Angeles) This year continues to be the one where the formidable legacy of the rock band Heart coalesces into multi-generational recognition of their legendary stature and considerable and enduring influence. And bringing further power to the process is the publication by ECW Press this month of the book "Heart: In The Studio" by Jake Brown.

Heart's Ann and Nancy Wilson contributed exclusive interviews to the book, which as its title implies concentrates on the creation of their 30 million selling catalog of classic albums and such timeless hits as "Crazy on You," "Magic Man," "Barracuda," "Straight On" "These Dreams," "Alone" and others. The author also spoke with longtime Heart guitarist Howard Leese as well as producers Mike Flicker, Ron Nevison, Keith Olsen and Ritchie Zito to grant readers a genuine behind-the-scenes look at the artistry, creativity and craft that results in a musical legacy with eternal appeal and fostered Heart's status as groundbreaking rock music icons.

"Heart: In The Studio" also provides a key to understanding why Heart remains "a vital and creative rock'n'roll unit and a force to be reckoned with," as All Music Guide said of their last studio album in 2004, Jupiter's Darling, whose re-release this month coincides with the publication of the biography. Readers of the book will be able to also enjoy the landmark music whose creation it documents with the May release by Epic/Legacy of a two-fer package of the band's multimillion selling albums Little Queen (1977) and Dog & Butterfly (1979) as part of the debut of the X2 series and on July 8 another Heart package that contains 14 of their biggest and most beloved songs in the bow of Epic/Legacy's Playlist line.

This year has also seen high-profile evidence of Heart's continuing appeal to and inspiration for new generations of music fans and performers. Ann & Nancy Wilson's performance of "Barracuda" with contemporary superstar Fergie on the recent "Idol Gives Back" charity TV special was one of the hit segments of the event, and their songs remain favorites with "American Idol" competitors like last season's finalist Carly Smithson, who names the band as her top influence. And Ann Wilson has recently been writing songs for the red-hot pop star and actress duo Ally & AJ, who have often been compared in the media to the Wilson sisters.

As Heart hit the road on a three-month national tour with Journey and Cheap Trick to demonstrate the band's continuing potency in live performance, their biographer Jake Brown recently noted what many of Heart's fans and followers have also been feeling: "Heart has had its due coming for a long time now, and hopefully the next year will see their much-deserved induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame."

HEART SURGES AFTER "IDOL GIVES BACK" & NEWS OF SUMMER LONG TOUR

"Barracuda" Leaps Upward in Sales as Heart Mongers Fan Club Membership Doubles

Jupiter's Darling Reissue, Ann Wilson "Isolation" Single, Next Album Sessions Also Mark 2008

(Los Angeles) Heart's legendary stature and ongoing creative vitality and appeal are coalescing to make 2008 a banner year in the rock band's already landmark 32-year run. Following the appearance by the group's Ann & Nancy Wilson with fan and friend Fergie performing their hit song "Barracuda" on the "Idol Gives Back" charity special, the clip of that special collaboration was the 4 video download at iTunes. Digital sales of the original 1977 Top 10 hit version of the song surged 85% in the wake of the TV event while digital album sales for Hearts Greatest Hits leapt 250% and Greatest Hits/Live enjoyed a 110% jump.

At the same time, membership in the Heart Mongers Fan Club has doubled as followers of the group sign up to receive such benefits as exclusive presale tickets on dates (where available) during their three-month, 40-plus date nationwide summer tour with fellow rockers Journey and Cheap Trick. Heart's most recent studio album, Jupiter's Darling — hailed as "easily the band's finest moment in over 20 years" by All Music Guide when it hit the streets in 2004 — will be reissued on June 3 via Adrenaline Music Group (distributed by ADA) and Zoe/Rounder Records has just released a single of Ann Wilson's stirring take on John Lennon's "Isolation" from last fall's Hope & Glory, her first solo album. The Wilson sisters will also hit the studio in 2008 to cut their next album of new material.

With the Wilson sisters at the core of a band that is as vital, creative and active as ever, Heart enjoy a multigenerational appeal, keeping longtime listeners engaged while winning new and younger fans thanks to the popularity of their songs among "American Idol" contestants like this season's Top 6 finalist Carly Smithson. The group's groundbreaking meld of hard rock, folk finesse and pop appeal, topped with Ann Wilson's still potent trademark voice, has earned Heart album sales of 30 million alongside a string of enduring hit songs over the last three plus decades.

Heart continue setting firsts as the debut artists on DirecTV's "Legendary Albums Live" series, performing their classic 1976 breakthrough debut album Dreamboat Annie in concert taped a year ago in Los Angeles and released on CD and DVD by Shout! Factory last October. Their eminence as rock legends was affirmed last year when they appeared on the "VH1 Rock Honors" TV special and were awarded lifetime achievement rings for their musical contributions.
