This Friday's (Nov 6th) editionof the XFM Remix show is a
Wall Of Sound spectacular featuring a wealth of new material
from the label including (most importantly) the first play of
"Ghosts" from our forthcoming third album.

If you have been to the shows this year, you may be familiar with
the track, however it has since passed through the hands of
electro don Alex Metric who has produced this shiny new version.

Matt and Bnann will also be on the show along with Wall Of Sound
MD Mark Jones.

The show starts at 22:00 UK time and can be heard at 104.9FM if
you are in London or online HERE.

We very much hope you all like it. Let us know your thoughts by speaking
your brains over at THE FORUM

As you may aleady know, we've been recording the "instrumenty" bits for the new Infadels record over the past few days and so far, so swell.

To do this, we have moved from our dark, damp hovel of a home to a lovely, shiny (but not too expensive) studio that exists precisely ten foot to the right of us.

The vibe is high and we are having fun, this time under the watchful eye of Mr. Jon Gray with whom we last worked with on "Jagger '67" back when we were all four years old. He is applying his skills in the black arts and satanistic alchamy to great effect on this record. Our very own Matt heads up the production and together it is all sounding very fun indeed.

If "We Are Not The Infadels" was a night-time record and "Universe In Reverse" was the morning after, then this album is the following night where we've negated sleep, gone back out clubbing and carried on drinking.

Speaking of which, we were all treated to watching Wag enjoy his FIRST CUP OF COFFEE OF ALL TIME. Quite something to watch I can tell you. Initially he complained that it was too warm "that'll be the hot water they put in it I guess",  then followed a rapid increase in speech married with a loss of cohesive diction. Then came the demand that all songs be at 250bpm from now on.

We'll have him on the double-shot espressos tomorrow...

On the recording side, I'd say we got about three tunes in the bag.

We started with "Out Of The Black Sky", a very lo-fi, very spacey tune that sits between "Murder That Sound" and "Stories From The Bar" from album one. It's one of my faves and i'm a little gutted we didn't get the chance to play it out on our mini Dutch tour last month. I think it may be one of the few tunes with any guitars, Matty pulling out some great Rat-at-at style playing together with a HUGE keyboard riff whilst elephant samples scream and Bnann sings "good feelings in hard times, we're not facing tribulations"

Anyway, job done.

Next up was "Violent Oblivion", a "Brandon Vegas" for 2010. We played this live in an early form recently and after these recordings it will be back in the world of production so Matt can add some more wizz, pops and bangs. When it's finished it will make "Dark and Long" by Underworld sound like the fucking Crazy Frog. In my dreams I'm smashing a ten foot high solid gold dustbin to this tune. Um...I think you get the idea.

And then in the small hours of the morning we finished with "We Get Along", a tune quite unlike anything we've ever done. Part M.I.A. part Knife I guess but it's quite a moment, and we were getting some lovely vibesy reactions from people when we played it live. The sub-bass in it is very serious indeed, I'm not sure the studio speakers will ever be the same again (sorry!)

Today we attempt another five tunes or something crazy. This may take more than a cup of coffee to get through...

Love and hugs

Richie XXX

Very exciting stuff going down over the next few days as we head into the studio with Jon Gray (whom we did Jagger '67 with) to lay down the last few bits of recording for the third record. I'll be uploading some pics and vids over the next couple of days to give you an idea on how it's all going so check back here for (possible) nakedness. Blurgh!

We have to say a really big "we're sorry but honestly, it
wasn't our fault" to the good people of the Geuzenpop who had the
poor fortune of watching us wrestle electrical, sound and dare we say it
staff problems at the festival. Ultimately, we managed only three
songs before the stage died. If you persevered enough to see that,
thanks for the love and understanding. We hope to see you all again. Let's
not make it so brief next time eh?

Oh, and special big up to the stage manager who asked Al if he could
have his dinner before we went on stage. Class dude....real class :-/

hello there
ive been tempted to write a blog now for a while, and as i sit here on
this sunny afternoon ive decided, in the words of micheal jackson, this
is it!

im not sure what you're meant to write so ive decided to write an
excerpt from my notebook, which im sure isn't what you're meant to do,
but here goes.....

'My day on the southbank' by eric of the plantains

The breakdancer was amping up the crowd, as this was his big
finale....thats right... he s gonna headspin!!

there's a guy standing next to me, who was holding a shopping trolley
that had a speaker and PA system inside it. So i think to myself, "he
must be another act waiting for the pitch"
then i hear him repeating "holy mother of god! jesus is my saviour!
jesus is my protector! with jesus' love i cannot fail! holy mother of
god!"
this brought a few things to mind....either A) this guy could be a
litlle disturbed? or B) is this headspin, we're about to see, a sign
from god? or C) am i actually witnessing some kind of second coming?

no ...... im just stuck in the middle of two very different kinds of
nutter !!

then the breakdancer says to the crowd, "ok people, this is it! and if
you like the act please throw money!"
he then starts an electro track on his battery powered ghetto blaster
and asks everyone to " clap in time" and "make loads of noise!"

The breakdancer steps up to do his headspin. i feel really nervous for
him.
Meanwhile, the possessed street preacher, holding his trolley, starts
to rap the lords prayer in time to the breakdancers electro tape.
"this is getting really surrrreal" i thought!
"Here is a man wearing a checked shirt, khaki shorts and socks and
sandals... the complete regalia of every good, over the top,
jesus-loving street preacher, with a face that could belong to a
primary school teacher, axe murderer, peodophile, or general, lovely,
kind, nice, geniune guy... depending on which facial expression he used
on each word of his lords prayer rap."

the whole thing reminded me of the the gerry rafferty song "breakdancer
to the left of me, jesus freak to the right, here i am stuck in the
middle wiv you "
I was waiting for michael madsen (aka Mr. Blonde) to start cutting my
ear off with a knife.

Then, the breakdancer goes for it! he dives onto his head!
the jesus freak's rap gets louder and louder.... "this is it" i
thought, "whats gonna happen!"............it was amazing...... he
pulled off the perfect death defying headspin!!!!
the jesus freak went quiet! the crowd cheered! and i had a moment of
life affirming joy!
As soon as he'd finished the whole crowd walked off, without donating a
penny. the jesus freak took his pitch.
and i wandered off without paying as well. completely satisfied. with
no hint of guilt or shame........................................

its a strange world, the real world. x

Until the day comes when Wag's autobiography hits the shelves, we are going to have to make do with "Friends Like These", a new book by Danny Wallace. It's just come out on paperback this week and it's worth a mention as they'vegone and put said bass player on the front cover. Look!
