SharonH: thats cuz you are up on the stage Jon, lol

upfromindiana1: really, jon, we want to punch those hecklers

jesse_m: I dunno, beer down the cleavage isn't always a party. ha

jonegee: to be a musician gerry - it is the only job i ever wanted

ldevine: the energy you all put out at every concert is amazing, is that hard to do or do you get into as much as we all do?

ldevine: we like to see you having fun!

DBB: what is your favorite song on "Freedom's Road?"

jonegee: i like most of the songs on Freedom's Road

upfromindiana1: what is your favorite song off LDLF to play live? I love If I Die Sudden live

jesse_m: How much does the audience impact the energy of a show?

jonegee: it definitely helps when the audiance is into it

Chaz: did you guys record the songs for "Ghost Brothers of Darkland County?" Might they be released some day?

jonegee: i didn't

jonegee: we did some of the pre-stuff for it

Chaz: so no recordings were made, or they were made and you just didn't play on them?

jonegee: we played on the demos and i dont know what happened after that

upfromindiana1: Seriously, because this has been talked about...Do you band members get tired of seeing the same people show after show and in the front row

jonegee: not me

upfromindiana1: you're the BEST jon!

SharonH: i second that !

jesse_m: third

jonegee: thanks ladies

Chaz: what do you think of the songs John wrote for that musical? Are there some gems in there?

jonegee: i havent heard them since we did them over a year ago

jonegee: i dont know

ldevine: Will there be more tours?

jonegee: i hope so idevine

ldevine: me too!

jesse_m: Kind of the flip side to Barb's question, are there ever shows that you don't recognize anyone?

Chaz: good move on your part

jonegee: i agree

ldevine: what is your favorite song to play live?

jonegee: crumblin' down

ldevine: love it!

upfromindiana1: you kick butt on that song jon!

jesse_m: Me too, anything you guys play that's thumpin' I love!

jesse_m: How much sight-seeing do you get to do on the off days when you're on the road? What types of things do you like to see?

jonegee: something different than what i am used to seeing jesse

Gerry: The music industry has seen a steady decline in retail sales CD's etc in recent times due to the legal / illegal downloading of music. Do you think that the industry will ever be able to recover from this trend?

jonegee: yes the music business will rebirth itself in a different way the old mind set is dying and it will help guys like us

SharonH: in what way do you mean?

jonegee: it will probably model television - what happened to tv will happen to the music industry

DBB: what if John came up to you guys and said "Ok, we are going to rehearse "Play Guitar" and "Hand to Hold Onto" because I want to play them in Australia and New Zeleand?" Would you be stunned? he seems to dislike the older songs like that

jonegee: after we would come to, then we'd have a conversation! hahahaha

DBB: do the guys in the band ever talk about stuff like that like "why doesn't he want to play the older songs?"

jonegee: yes, dbb and sometimes we even tell him that

DBB: what does he say?

jonegee: his reply is "I'll think about it" and we'll try it and see

ldevine: how is the set list decided

jonegee: by what works live

ldevine: but how do you know if you don't ever play it live

ldevine: there is so much to choose from

jonegee: we do in rehearsal idivine and we figure it out there

Gerry: grYou mentioned earlier about record companies are slowing becoming no existent (can't remember ur exact words) , have you found it frustrating in your career about the influences or roles these companys play..

jonegee: i'm glad that a change is coming gerry

DBB: who talked him into finally playing "Ain't Even Done With The Night" for the 2005 tour?

jonegee: dbb, i don't know

SharonH: would you ever put out a cd on your own?

SharonH: sorry for my typo's, saying good night to dad while trying to type lol

jonegee: yes sharon, i would

SharonH: what are you waiting for !!  im not getting any younger brother ! :)

upfromindiana1: i have a killer dvd of him sharon! If you show up here this weekend, I will let you watch it

SharonH: you are evil barbie!!!!

Chaz: in the feature in the new issue of Rolling Stone, it paints an unpleasant picture of what your rehearsal sessions are like before a tour? Exactly how bad is it?

jonegee: chaz, i haven't read it so i don't know what they are talking about

gabber599: tell him to play longer... 2 hr show would be great  :)

jesse_m: See, I'm thinking Loving Mother For Ya would *work* live - wink

ldevine: or justice and independence

DBB: yeah, what are the chances of him playing longer shows? 90 minutes isn't long enough. you could get more songs in that way.

Chaz: no chane of that ldevine, John has said he hates that song.

Gerry: I want you to play Hotdogs & hamburgers in OZ....I guess my chances of that would be from 0-1% would you agree Jon? LOL!

jonegee: ok, guys, one more question and its time for me to go

DBB: will the Australia shows be the same setlists as the US shows you just finished?

jonegee: i dont think so!

upfromindiana1: no question here, just love ya for doing this for us! I will see ya tomorrow night

Chaz: thanks for doing this Jon. This is very cool

jonegee: yes, barb, i will see you tomorrow

SharonH: not a question but, we love you Jon, stay safe and enjoy your time off ! Thanks for chatting with us, it's always a pleasure !

jesse_m: Thanks for doing this Jon,

DBB: any idea what the chances will be?

ldevine: thanks jon!

Gerry: god bless you & stay safe!

jonegee: goodnight ya'll! see you out on the road and God Bless you all!

janes: hey everyone. jon's here and ready to go...be sure to change your gabber name

Gerry: how do you want us to ask questions, let each of us ask one then let jon respond then someone ask & so on

jonegee: just ask it man

jonegee:nobody wants to go first?

Gerry: Okay so have you been to australia before & what are u looking forward to the most on ur tour downunder?

jonegee: no, never been to australia and i want to see a live kangaroo either out in the wild or on my plate

gabber691: What was your favourite song to perform live this tour?

jonegee: crumblin

gabber750: when touring what do you and the band do on the downtime- any site seeing?

jonegee: go see other bands - site seeing that kind of stuff

gabber770: what is your favorite non-released Mellencamp song?

jonegee: cigarettes

Gerry: If you could host a dinner party, who would be 3 people you'd invite from the present or past?

jonegee: christ, hendrix and my grandmother

gabber770: i heard that was cool, will it ever be released?

jonegee: dont know about the release of cigarettes

gabber750: do you wear the sunglasses on stage because of the lights, they look cool or both

jonegee: sometimes both but usually looks cool

gabber750: speaking of unreleased material, will we ever see a Mellencamp live album- we would all love one

jonegee: there's been talk of a live album

Gerry: I notice that on ur myspace page you have a religious quote, what sort of role has faith played both professionally & personally for you

jonegee: without god i wouldn't be talking to you now

gabber770: what about a box set that collects some unreleased songs?

jonegee: dont know about a box set

gabber750: what input does the band have on the setlist or is it all John's call

jonegee: mainly john's call but we do have some say in it

Gerry: If you could fill in for any band for one night who would that be & why (besides the current bands ur in)

jonegee: probably tower of power because they are the greatest horn band that ever existed

Chaz: what did "It's a Beautiful Life" sound like? I know it didn't make "Life, Death..."

jonegee:i dont remember that song

Chaz: Any good ones that didn't make it onto the new record that you like?

jonegee: not that i can remember

gabber750: who have you met in the music biz that you were in awe, maybe a personal hero or someone you looked up to

jonegee: i dont know of anyone right off hand

Gerry: Is there a JM song that either you, the band, or John himself doesn't like to play?

jonegee: yeah but i am not going to tell you what it is. I'll let the guys speak for themselves. hahahahaha

PixieStyx: you mean besides tommy right jon

jonegee: yes melissa!

PixieStyx: ;)

PixieStyx: im super stoked about farm aid being in boston this year. Im bringing a new fan with me this year

gabber322: Any chance of convincing John to play a longer show? :)

jonegee: that's a possibility

gabber750: when on stage, how easy is it for you to see the people up front in the first couple of rows- do the lights make it hard to see

jonegee: sometimes we can see the people up front some times we cant

Chaz: yeah, what does John only play 18 songs?

Chaz: why does he play on 18 songs when he used to play much longer?

jonegee: we dont count the songs we count the time

Gerry: Do you think we Aussies can expect any changes to the current setlists in OZ that you've done in the USA.

jonegee: probably will be some changes

gabber322: ok, then why only 90 minutes??

jonegee: you'll have to ask john about the length of the show

Chaz: I guess I'm asking why doesn't he play two hours or more instead of just playing 80 minutes? Bag the opening act if you have to.

jonegee: that's not our call about the opening act

gabber750: John seems to change the style of music every album or two, how does that change the way you play bass

jonegee: different styles of music require different playing styles

Gerry: who has been a major influence on your musical career

jonegee: is that personal or artist?

Gerry: either mate

jonegee: larry graham was one of my biggest influences

PixieStyx: If you could play another instrument on stage, what would you play jon

jonegee: i'd play drums

PixieStyx: lol i can see that

Chaz: you weren't in the band when he used to have no opening act and play way over two hours, but those were the days. I wish he'd go back to that

gabber599: yeah, i think thats the most common complaint chaz

gabber750: how do you rate the late great John Entwistle on bass

jonegee: one of the best.  i loved the ox

gabber770: how did you like playing Fogerty's "Green River" on the 2005 tour? Seems like that would be fun to play.

jonegee: john fogerty was cool playing with and hanging around with

Chaz: has the band worked up any cool cover tunes recently to play in concert or possible at Farm Aid?

jonegee: not so far

Chaz: are there any you guys would like to play with John?

gabber750: when you're driving down the road listing to a mix tape (i'm dating myself) what artists are on there

jonegee: gcs, sly stone, mother's finest, james brown, ted nugent and sometimes John Mellencamp

Gerry: Jon I know the perfect place you can see touch a real kangaroo...u & the band should go upto Steve Irwin's Australia Zoo it's 45mins north of Brisbane...can feed them & touch Koala's too. I could be ur tour guide in Brisveags LOL

jonegee: we'll keep that in mind gerry

PixieStyx: Nugent was in Cincinnati the night after you were Jon, were you tempted to stay and check it out?

jonegee: of course

gabber770: what songs did you rehearse for the recent tour that didn't end up getting into the show?

jonegee: lonely ol' night

gabber750: i'm sure Speck was thrilled being on the stage with his dad and the band, what did the band think

jonegee: we like speck

upfromindiana1: howdy. little late

jonegee: that's alright

upfromindiana1: when can i ask a question

jonegee: now

upfromindiana1: are we going in some kind of order.  Oh.  well then

jonegee: yes

upfromindiana1: what part does Faith play in your music life

jonegee: all of it

upfromindiana1: example please

jonegee: sometimes you have to use faith to get up in the morning

PixieStyx: jon, you going to watch the olympics and if so, what sport interests you the most

jonegee: track and field and yes i'm going to watch the olympics

PixieStyx: your son was quite the runner himself wasnt he

Chaz: is there a song in John's catalog that hasn't been played live since you were in the band that you'd like to make it into a setlist?

jonegee: probably eden is burning

Chaz: great song

cge333: eden is burning- great song and underrated album

jonegee: agreed cge333

Leigh: Hi Jon... I just saw you guy play in LA and I was wondering what your reaction is when fans run onto the stage like they did at that show... you guys all seem to take it in stride

jonegee: at this age it's probably a compliment leigh

upfromindiana1: bandana or no bandana?

jonegee: bandana!

upfromindiana1: lol

gabber770: what happened to Pat Peterson? why isn't she in the band anymore?

jonegee: i honestly do not know

jesse_m: I just wanted to thank you for always being so gracious and friendly during m&g's

jonegee: i enjoy the fans

Chaz: why were there no meet and greets on the tour you just finished?

jonegee: not this time and i dont know why not

upfromindiana1: when was the first time you played the upright bass?

jonegee: on television about the time of trouble no more

upfromindiana1: did you know what you were doing? lol

jonegee: of course not! hahahahah

cge333: not really a question, but i'm just putting it out there that i know a lot of us would love another So-Cal show or 2 real soon

jonegee:me too

gabber770: i heard there were some great songs that didn't make it onto "Cuttin' Heads" can you tell us about any of those?

jonegee: not right now

Gerry: Is there anything that has fascinated you about Australia that you need answered.

jonegee: yes, what is the weather like in november & december

Gerry: gosh! well let me say it's going to be quite warm

jonegee: good i love hot weather

Gerry: so u wont need a jumper lol

jonegee: hahahahahah

Gerry: Brisbane has the most consistent weather.....(not being biased) Well I'm going to Brisbane, Sydney Melb to see you guys play

cge333: in making albums is every instrument recorded separetely and mixed with the vocals or all at the same time or it depends?

jonegee: cge its all of the above

Chaz: what is your favorite Mellencamp album?

jonegee: Freedom's Road

upfromindiana1: How different is it for you to play the arenas one week and turn around and play for the bar crowds the next?

jonegee: it's not that different. it's a mind set

upfromindiana1: actually it is for me too!

DBB: has John given any time table for when he might record his next album?

jonegee: nope

DBB: any idea what direction he might go sonically on the next one?

jonegee: no

upfromindiana1: who is the "cut-up" on the tour bus?

jonegee: everybody

jonegee: just depends on the day

cindy: hi jon

jonegee: hi cindy

PixieStyx: hi cindy

upfromindiana1: any practical jokes occur

jonegee: no

cge333: is it disappointing that you guys can create a great album like LDL&F and just not be able to get the songs played, have the album sell well- you know the die hards love the album

jonegee: no the real fans seem to get it

Gerry: have you ever had a wardrobe malfunction performing...Ha I mean smething go wrong with the equipment9guitar)

jonegee: yes gerry, not a very nice experience hahahahahah

cindy: i saw you in cincy taping from sidestage during Lucindas set. Were you taping family and friends or just the audience in general or were you focusing on Lucinda?

jonegee: lucinda

gabber599: Yeah, do you guys get discouraged by poor sales etc?

jonegee:not always but sometimes

cindy: we know how you love to videotape do you ever find the time to watch?

jonegee: very seldom, i have massive amounts of film that i have never seen

cindy: sounds like me

Gerry: Not sure if we asked this but someone on the boards asked why do you wear sunglasses on stage? Is it coz of the light or just a fashon statement

jonegee: we answered that - sometimes both - i wear calvin klein sunglasses

cge333: i hope you get some $$ from CK for the plug

Chaz: what do you think of the Cutting Heads album, it's my favorite and I don't think it gets enough credit

jonegee:  its an album that i wish had done better

cge333: do the band members hang out while back home or do you all go your sepearte ways

jonegee: usually it is family time when we are home

DBB: why did John drop "Thank You" from the setlist after just a few shows?

jonegee: dont know

cindy: have you ever been starstruck meeting or playing with someone while on the road?

jonegee: no cindy not in a long time

Gerry: Have you ever started playing a JM song at a Dane Clark show by mistake?

jonegee: no never

upfromindiana1: and vice versa lol

jonegee: no

DBB: sounds like John doesn't share much with the band....how close is the band with John? Does he ever have you guys over to his house and stuff like that?

jonegee: sometimes yeah, we even go out to eat as a band sometimes

cge333: do you come from a musical family or did you make your own way to the music biz

jonegee: no, i am only one in about 4 generations

PixieStyx: gotta run, thanks for hanging out and chattin with us Jon.

jonegee: bye melissa

PixieStyx: nite

Gerry: Do you know if John would ever do one of these fan chat things?

DBB: no chance, Gerry

Gerry: lol

jonegee: i dont know

DBB: was it cool meeting Billy Joel at the Rock Hall of Fame induction?

jonegee: met billy joel before

Leigh: What is your favorite Dane Clark song to play

jonegee: i like a bunch of them

gabber599: will they ever get released you think?

jonegee: maybe, it just depends on what happens

cge333: because of different record companies who knows if those songs will ever see the light of day

jonegee: record companies wont exist in a little while so they wont have much to do with it

cge333: good point jon, they keep shooting themselves in the foot

Chaz: doesn't matter about record companies cge, John owns them because he owns his own studio

cge333: i think andy did hit him on accident back in 2005 in LA

jonegee: cge, that did happen back in 2005

cge333: DBB maybe instead of swiping them maybe Jon could just call us and put that cd on in the background

DBB: I agree CGE, somebody get Toby on the phone and let him play those songs for us

cge333: does the band take a lot of pride in john getting into the RR Hall of Fame this year

jonegee: cge, i think everyone is happy for John but I don't think it has changed much for us

Gerry: What would you say is your Athem song...the song that means the most to you? Mine is Money Changes Everything by Cydni Lauper
