Originally from Umea Sweden, he was Professor for Composition at the Royal Academy of Music in Stockholm and is well known for his work with European-based jazz-soloists such as Benny Bailey, Bobo Stenson, Tim Hagans or Palle Mikkelborg. Fahlström was the artistic director of the Norrbotten Big Band from 1989 till 1996 and is a regular guest conductor with a number of renowned big bands, including the NDR-Big Band and Estonian Dream Big Band Tallinn.
