Opening the year in predictably formidable fashion, the Dutch godfather of trance Marco V welcomes us into the new decade with a massive double hitter, Predator and Song In My Head.

Underlined by buoyant and assertive synths and tailored with commanding percussion, at the heart of Predator are the haunting vocals of Khashassi, who previously captivated fans on Scenario. One of the more melodic tracks from Propaganda V2, Predator has been causing a stir both in the clubs and on the net – watch the YouTube video right here:

Wasting no time, Song In My Head displays fantastic atmosphere as soon as you hit the play button. Driving and hypnotic, the track focuses on gradual changes, big builds and looping melodies. The unique hook laden vocals of Benjamin Bates need no introduction as they reverberate throughout, meshing with relentless tech rhythms produced to devastating and clinical effect by the V-Man – watch the YouTube video right here:

Predator and Song In My Head will be released on Maelstrom in the UK and on In Charge Records worldwide on January 12th 2009.

Keep your ears out for the DJ Dero ‘Song In My Head’ remix and Funkerman’s house remix of ‘Predator’.

Ethereal, otherworldly and hypnotic, Moving Back suspends the listener’s ear between the delicate pizzicato of the upper elements and the relentless energy of the lower tones. Sliding, dripping and oozing out from in between, it’s the blissful sound of Jonathan Mendelsohn’s vocal that is bound to give you that all important ‘rush’.

A true craftsman, Marco’s knowledge and understanding of the construction and composition of a track, in particular one guaranteed to explode in the biggest arenas of clubland, is unparalleled. His ability to pick and place melodies and beats, to work with crescendos and those hands-in-the-air moments, while at the same time knowing when to hold off, leaving you desperate for more, is rife throughout Coming Back.
Nic Chagall, the mastermind behind the high-flying DJ team Cosmic Gate, has added his own creative and eclectic touch to this already well-mastered tune, producing a killer remix that is deservingly set to take its place high in the charts.

Ho do you read a QR-code?
All you have to do is scan it with your mobile phone, using a QR code scanner software. This is either preinstalled on your phone or easily downloadable for free. The phones browser is then directed to the enclosed content.

It’s finally here! The world’s biggest trance event, Trance Energy, is announcing its full line-up today. It includes a full-packed programme featuring the biggest names in trance and the hottest up and coming new talents, alongside old favourites.
So, which artists can we expect to see hitting the stage at the Jaarbeurs in Utrecht on Saturday April 3rd?

Trance Energy will be held in four areas, each with its own character and style, introducing a whole new generation of acts never heard before in the Jaarbeurs. Including on the Main Stage, the long awaited threesome who have been on the Trance Energy wish list many years and are placed a respectable number four on the DJ Mag top 100 list: Above & Beyond!
The Main Stage will also host Armada's Markus Schulz who, with his incredible bass lines and uplifting melodies, is representing the newer generation in the world of trance.
There's also no shortage of raw Dutch talent this year either, in the form of Sander van Doorn, last years winner of 'Best Breakthrough Artist' at the International Dance Music Awards in Miami, which landed him a spot amongst the global top.

For the hard trance fans there’s the Hard Stage featuring a strong line-up of artists like dance music veteran Scot Project and Kamui, who conquered the world with their track 'Electro Slut', named by BBC's Radio 1 as favourite track.
This year Trance Energy collaborated with the world’s most popular trance website Trance.nu to produce a stunning line-up for the Future Stage, featuring a star-studded list of acts like Dash Berlin and Super8 & Tab. Contrary to previous announcements, there will be no Dutch stage this year. Instead,
a strong combi line-up presented by High Contrast and Marco V's In Charge will take over in fitting style. So, still plenty of Dutch talent on show plus enough room to squeeze in a special guest performance from Cosmic Gate.

We are proud to present the line-up for Trance Energy 2010:

The anticipation for Marco V fans all over the globe has ended as the long awaited second part of his monumental album Propaganda is out now on his own brainchild, his label In Charge records part of the Be Yourself music empire in Holland.

The first part was a big hit for all the major download stores and the CD stores too as the artwork for this album created a buzz in the EDM scene and many fans got the physical release rather than the digital copy. Certainly, the release of the second Part of the album meant immediately for me, the second part in our conversation with him because as you can understand, we wanted to know how the first part was received from his fans and most importantly to get a small comment about each track of the album.

You will read reviews from music journalists but nothing is so pure for me like the opinion of the artist about his own tracks. If an artist has the ability to detach himself from his own work and do constructive criticism about it then certainly he is ready to move to a higher level in his future productions.

Interview is written and conducted by Dimitri Kechagias “Flux BPM on the move”

Dimitri: Hi Marco, it is nice to have you back for the second part of the interview about the second part of your album. First, it will be great if you can let us know what kind of reaction you received about the first part of your album. Which tracks do you believe were the ones that are the absolute highlights?

Marco V: It is nice to be back!
I couldn’t have been happier with the reaction to Propaganda V1; it had such a great response. Obviously I love the whole album, but I would have to say that highlights were definitely Solitary Confinement and Unprepared. Worthy of a mention too though is Coma Aid. It took off as my biggest radio tune.

Dimitri: Now it is time for the second part of the Propaganda album to get released. In what ways is it different, or maybe similar to the first part?

Marco V: Yep, my next instalment of Propaganda is here. Propaganda V2 has been out for nearly a month now, and so far is taking off even more then the first! For me, I think V2 showcases the diversity of my music. There are some trance tracks in there, others have a more break beat feel to them, and then others are more on a progressive tip.

In some ways this album draws similarity to the first. It is full of the same bass driven energetic tracks that I love to play when I am DJ’ing but there are a few more vocals in V2.

Dimitri: Many fans ask in various forums, why didn't you release the album as a double CD and instead of releasing it as part 2. Does it mean that it is the second chapter in your musical career, or is there something else is hidden underneath?

Marco V: I had so much inspiration for these albums that I ended up with 25 tracks! I knew that if I released them all at once, they wouldn’t get anywhere near the amount of attention as if I spread them out. So I made the decision to have two albums. I am also releasing extended mixes for all the tracks of Propaganda V2 for this reason. They will be coming out every two weeks for the next few months. The next extended mix release is on December 22nd where I will be releasing ‘Coming Back’.
So no, sorry! Nothing hidden. Haha.

Dimitri: Did you work on both parts of the album at the same time. Did yo decide in the end which ones to include in the first part, and which ones in the second, or did you work on the second part after the initial release of the first?

Marco V: Well no, I made the tracks and mastered part one first, then I moved onto part two.

Dimitri: Would you like to describe for your fans, the steps that you go through to produce a track please? Which elements come first and so on? How do you decide when the vocals are to come in?

Marco V: So much of this depends on my mood and inspiration. Sometimes it’s a melody and another time it could be an idea for a vocal. But I always like to have the groove first before I start a track.

Dimitri: As in the previous interview, it would be nice to do a virtual tour of your Propaganda part 2 album. Please give us a comment about each track and particularly the vocal tracks, tell us about the co-operation with the vocalists and anything else that you may wish to add.

Marco V: 01. When The Night Falls
I wanted a nice vocal opening track for the album with the same energy as False Light. I still really like the opening track from my album 200V a lot!

    02. Scenario feat. Khashassi
Mary-Anne vocals are just fantastic. I knew as soon as she came to me with this vocal which direction to take it.

    03. Environmental Solution
This song is all about proggy bass lines with big synths. I really like progressive but a lot of the times I miss a real peak, so that’s the inspiration for this song.

    04. Predator feat Khashassi
Again, I am in love with her voice and I wanted more then one song with her on my album. This one is a bit more clubby, but still has a lot of energy. Just the sound I like

    05. The Miracles of Life
This song is just something I want you to think about..

    06. Coming Back feat. Jonathan Mendelsohn
I heard Jonathan’s vocals on a Nic Changall track and really wanted to use it for a track of my own. Nic has also do a great remix of this track, so stay tuned.

    07. How You Feeling?
This is a song with a really strong bass line. It was made for the festivals of last summer.

    08. Fantastic Damage
This is one of my personal favourites off the album. Propaganda V2 has a lot of vocal tracks so I created this to give the whole album a bit of a balance.

    09. Song In My Head
It’s in my head, in my head, in my head. A song that sticks in your head ;-)

    10. Inconsistent Talk
I found this vocal on the internet when I wanted to create an industrial song with big synths. I cut the vocal up a lot alas the name, inconsistent talk.

    11. Lucky Star
This is an energetic song with an old vocal I actually used in a Marco Solo song a long time ago.

    12. Final Chapter
This is a prefect song for the end of the album.

    13. Simulated 2010 (bonus track)
I don’t like all the boot legs and covers, and it is only a matter of time before someone made edits to this track, so I thought it’s better to do a new mix myself instead of waiting for someone else to.

Dimitri: For both parts of the album, you were lucky to have some amazing album artwork. Would you like to tell us why you chose the particular illustrator Vee Ladwaand, and if that was the only concept for the artwork of the album?

Marco V: Doing the album in two parts meant we really needed something to tie them both together. We came up with the idea of the comic book and decided to share the story over the two albums. My publicists were connected with a comic book artist, so they put me in touch. They thought he would be perfect, and they were right! Vee is an amazing artist and he really bought all my ideas to life. I am really pleased with the end result!

Dimitri: The results of the Top 100 DJ Mag list for 2009 are revealed. Are you satisfied with your performance on the list. In all the years that you have been constantly part of it, and would you like to comment on the DJ’s who manage to make it on the Top 10? Particularly Sander van Doorn, who you have co-operated with, Gareth Emery who released his compilation via Be Yourself Music, and the German DJ meister that is part of Be Yourself, Paul van Dyk?

Marco V: It is so great to be in the biggest top 100 DJ list of the world. This is my 9th year already, let’s see if I can celebrate my 10th year anniversary next year ;-) . Sander von Doorn and Gareth Emery and 2 DJ/producers that I really like, and who are also very nice guys. PVD has been my number 1 for many years, and I have a lot of respect for him.

Dimitri: By looking at the list we can have some idea about the most popular genres of dance music on dance floors worldwide. Do you think that House or progressive House, is more popular than Trance, particularly through Dj’s like David Guetta and Deadmau5?

Marco V: First of all, Deadmau5 is Trance, just like Eric Prydz. Not quite the same as Armin Van Buuren or Tiesto, but it is Trance all the same, no matter what people say!
Back to the question, house is and will be for the next 5 years the biggest and most popular music globally. The people who are voting the most in the DJ top 100 like Trance. I really think David Guetta should have had number one this year, but it is a Trance top 100 ;-)

Dimitri: What is your opinion about the latest trend of Dirty Dutch House sound, pioneered by DJ’s like Chuckie, Laidback Luke or Fedde Le Grand? Do you think that it will grow bigger in the coming months? What is your prediction from the feeling that you get from the dance floor, about the next big style that will be the most popular?

Marco V: I HATE the Dutch house sound. It is the cheesiest music to ever be produced in the whole world. People say Trance is cheesy, do they ever listen to Dutch House?
One thing – remember the name Chucky. He is the number one DJ from Holland at the moment. He is very talented. It is only a matter of time before he is big all over the world!

Dimitri: Many people all over the world wonder what music is…., what exactly is music for you, and particularly good quality music, in contrast with more self-destructive, unimaginative music?

Marco V: Good music is different for everyone. I don’t like Dutch House but that does not mean it’s not good music. Thousand of people enjoy that sound every weekend. So I don’t like to talk about quality of music as it really is different for everyone.

Dimitri: If one day, someone asks you to stop producing music or being a DJ, are there any other occupations that you would like to do, and be successful in, like in your DJ career? Have you done other jobs before becoming a full time producer and DJ?

Marco V: No. This is a question I have been asked a so many times but I am very happy to not have had to think seriously about it. I used to service fitness equipment before I became a full time producer/DJ. I would much prefer to be a full time producer/DJ.

Dimitri: Its very common these days to see DJ’s getting involved in volunteer work and projects to support a common cause like dance4life. Which issues do you feel are the most important, and you think that you are able to help with your presence and support?

Marco V: It is hard to say how effective something is that you are doing, but I always like to help. It is very easy for me to do something for those projects, and helping definitely doesn’t do anyone harm. I have done some projects for Dance4life and Unicef in the past and I also was on a big festival for Warchild last summer. I am always happy to help where I can.

Dimitri: Are you going to release an iPhone applicationin the near future, as many DJ’s do those days? Do you own an iPhone yourself, and how do you imagine your Marco V I phone application being?

Marco V: A friend of mine mentioned it to me at the beginning of this year that I should have one, but I am just so busy in the studio that I forget to do all this online stuff. Ha ha.

Dimitri: Lastly, would you like to offer a piece of advice to any aspiring DJ’s and producers? What exactly should they do if they want to build a steady and successful career?

Marco V: As far as I know there is only one rule – make your own sound. We already have Guetta and Tiesto and they became big doing something different to the sound of other DJ’s, not by repeating what was already out there. Everyone wants to be the new Guetta now days, and 8 years ago everyone wanted to be the same as Tiesto. Make your own sound!

Many thanks to Marco V for taking time to reply to these hard questions and do not forget to check his web site to keep yourself updated. Maybe he will play in a club near you and you can not afford to miss him! Until then, get your copy of Propaganda part 1 & 2 to experience one of the best albums of 2009.

Many thanks to Lizzie McManus from 'Get in PR' for her support in organising this interview, and Esther and Dick from 'Be Yourself Music' for their continuous support for my radio shows.

Fantastic Damage is a floor hungry track guaranteed to rejuvenate any late night dance floor. The prominent yet bubbling synth picks you up and throws you straight into a sonic climax before sending your senses into an audible whirlpool.

With tech and house beats running through the production, The Miracles of Life shows you exactly why Marco won the Best Tech DJ award out in Ibiza earlier this year. Strong synths and techno beats escort you down into the harder, darker side of Marco’s repertoire, the intensity of the vocals perfectly matching the powerful progression of the percussion.

Uniquely craftily in only the way he knows how, Environmental Solution soars over any sound system, mediating relentless melodies that continue to reverberate through you until you’re pushed towards a spine-tingling moment of euphoric breakdown that encapsulates both this original masterpiece and the master-crafter of music that is Marco V.
