HIDDEN KNOWLEDGE-A blog about direct knowledge or seeing- that was hidden from the human race all through history-a knowledge about the opening of our inner eyes that will Reveal the Forgotten Nature of Human Beings as an immortal bridge in the Awakening of the Consciousness of the Universe -Remember that all human beings are openning their inner eyes when they loose body's eyes(in deep mystic trance & N.D.E.Near-Death Experience );This blog is dedicated to the awakening of self-knowledge of the universe manifested in us that will reveal our hidden powers that can help human beings to discover their true identity(spiritual entities trapped inside a mortal vessel, coat or body) and to save THE EARTH and our civilization from self-annihilation. The greatest of all religious teaching is inside you,in your Heart; You can discover your treasure using love and awareness to awake yourself. This process of awakening to our true identity is taking place in a state beyond duality known as mystic trance or samadhi(trance, that state of mind which remains with its object without distractions; superconscious state, ecstasy, meditative or concentrative absorption, union).

The term trance is defined as an altered state of consciousness which individuals can enter through a variety of techniques, including hypnotism, drugs (aushadhi, potions, herbs, consecrated plants;see the Nahuatl– Maya’s traditions revealed by Carlos Castaneda or The Shamanic Traditions revealed by Dr. Andrija Puharich in “The Sacred Mushroom (pub. 1959),sound (particularly music ,percussive drumming-remember Mantras,(recitation of incantations, words of power, chanting, sacred chants, prayer, auto and hetero suggestions;see the King Arthur's instruction"in chant, spells and incantations" received from the druid Merlin etc.), sensory deprivation, physical hardships (eg. flagellation, starvation, exhaustion, tapas:intense desire, ascetic disciplines, purificatory acts ,austerities) and vigorous continuous rhythmic exercise (particularly dance).People can also use trance, particularly in the context of ‘ritual’ events, to learn new strategies of thinking or of relating to one another. There are different types of learning: for example what Eric Jantsch calls ‘conscious learning’ is a transaction between consciousness, the environment and memory. Jantsch also identifies ‘superconscious learning’, which takes place with the addition of ‘outer’ and ‘inner’ ways of learning. These arise through the interaction of consciousness with transpersonal mass/collective consciousness (eg. Jung’s "collective unconscious")There are other techniques which can be used for such ‘tuning in’, for example magical or shamanic practices such as visualisations, breathing techniques and ritual. Particular technologies can also be used to enhance such learning capacities, for example the ASCID (Altered States of Consciousness Induction Device) developed by Robert Masters and Jean Houston (1973). The modern electronic music dance party is one such ‘pscycho- technology’ because it is an information system, consisting of visual, auditory and sensual elements

Poarta Transei;Trance Gate

Trance and Serpent Power: Moses Lifted from the ground (muladhara) the "Serpent of Wisdom"(Kundalini)

Transa si puterea sarpelui: Moise a ridicat " de pe pamant(muladhara) "Sarpele Intelepciunii""(Kundalini) in starea de aliniere(transa este indicata de sarpele inghetat , transformat in baston), care permite trecerea camilei prin urechile acului si in care "trinitatea devine UNU"(suprapunerea celor trei cercuri la conjunctie sau aliniere; disparitie multiplicitate;intrarea in functionare holografica)

Kundalini is often experienced as a snake or serpent.

God told Moses to throw his walking stick to the ground and it turned into a serpent. Then Moses answered and said, "What if they will not believe me? . . . For they may say, 'The Lord has not appeared to you.'" and the Lord said to him, "What is that in your hand?" And he said, "A staff." Then He said, "Throw it on the ground." So he threw it on the ground and it became a serpent; and Moses fled from it. But the Lord said to Moses, "Stretch out your hand and grasp it by its tail." So he stretched out his hand and caught it, and it became a staff in his hand--"That they may believe that the Lord the God of their fathers, has appeared to you."[Exodus 4:1-17] "Now the LORD spoke to Moses and Aaron, saying, 9 “When Pharaoh speaks to you, saying, ‘Work a miracle,’ then you shall say to Aaron, ‘Take your staff and throw it down before Pharaoh, that it may become a serpent."[Exodus 7:8-9]

All these facts are so many instances which prove the truth of the proverb, that if two do the same thing it will not be regarded as the same thing: and thus the miracle of our own religion is mere magic and witchcraft in other religions.Miracle is anything contra-natural that is legitimate; and witchcraft is the same thing, but illegitimate; the former is supposed to be done with the help of God, the latter with the help of Satan; the former is boasted of as the highest glory of the Church, the latter is denounced as the greatest abomination possible.

Egyptian Cobra naja haje (or haja) can be made motionless by applying pressure just below its head,(as cited in Walter Gibson, Secrets of Magic; "Case Studies"). In their commentary on the Old Testament, Jamieson, Fausset and Brown comment on the incident between Moses and Aaron and the Egyptian magicians:"The magicians of Egypt in modern times have long been celebrated adepts in charming serpents; and particularly by pressing the nape of the neck they throw them into a kind of catalepsy, which renders them stiff and immoveable, thus seeming to change them into a rod.

Inteleptii (rishi) afirma ca starea de aliniere sau de coerenta, la care ajungem in cursul transei mistice(samadhi), exista deja in noi in stare potentiala, insa in lipsa unei treziri spirituale(a unei alinieri) nu suntem constienti de aceasta stare de unitate si de fuziune, care se manifesta in universul holografic;

Analiza in detaliu a fiecarei ramuri (anga) apare in cursul urmatoarelor sutra.

Asceza (tapas) este un ingredient al tuturor abordarilor concrete ale practicii Centrarii[Yoga], fiindca toate necesita atingerea unui un prag critic al implicarii, al efortului neintrerupt,al inflacararii;

Shamanismul a utilizat numeroase modalitati de imobilizare a corpului(asana) pt. a intra in transa ("legarea"; "ingroparea rituala"; "impachetarea").

"You Are Gods"-"Truth is stranger than fiction"
"Voi(fiintele umane) sunteti zei"-"Adevarul este mai straniu decat fictiunea"

ALIEN INTERVIEW- "Truth is stranger than fiction"

Each human being is an Embodied Manifestation of the Conscious Holographic Universe";
"Fiecare fiinta umana este o intrupare in care se manifesta universul holografic care a devenit constient de sine insusi"
“Voi(fiintele umane) sunteti lumina lumii(universului)” (Matei 5.14)
“You(human beings) are the light of the world(universe)” (Matthew 5:14)
Ce trebuie sa stim ? What is necessary to know ?
…."All human beings are both immortal and omnipotent as a forth level race, possessing the ability of instantaneous matter-energy transformation and teleportation, as well as the ability of time travel. But human beings have forgotten who they really are. They have even forgotten how to remember their true identity"

"I said, 'You are Gods" (Ps 82:6 John 10:34)
In Facerea 3.22: "Dumnezeu a spus: ”Iata omul s-a facut ca unul dintre Noi, cunoscand binele si raul. Si acum nu cumva sa-si intinda mana si sa ia roade din pomul vietii, sa manance si sa traiasca in veci” .
In Genesis 3:22: “Then the LORD God said, "Behold, the man has become like one of Us, knowing good and evil; and now, he might stretch out his hand, and take also from the tree of life, and eat, and live forever ".

Is necessary to know that in Genesis are mentioned two trees:

Pomul binelui si raului(the tree of the knowledge of good and evil)= caderea in camera periferica a constiintei(pestera intunecoasa la care facea referire Socrate), caderea in minte; aparitia darului constientei discriminatorii a fost simultana cu manifestarea blestemului (s-a pierdut hrana divina, alimentarea cu apa vie, nemurirea si limbajul unic al speciei); omul a fost obligat sa munceasca pamantul pt. a se hrani...

Pomul vietii(tree of life)=calea vegherii care ne conduce la lumina vietii; in urma caderii in transa centrifuga s-a produs caderea, identificarea cu falsul ego(identitatea implantata) si cu trupul, a aparut moartea fizica (ruperea ancorarii naturale in izvorul vietii).

(Ioan 11.9-10).
Jesus answered, "Are there not twelve hours of daylight? A man who walks by day will not stumble, for he sees by this world's light. It is when he walks by night that he stumbles, for he has no light(inside)." (John 11:9-10).

Pentru Socrate acesta era indiciul ca suntem prizonieri intr-o pestera intunecoasa(vedeti imaginile in album), fiindca suntem orbi, fara o sursa externa de lumina fenomenala(lumanare, lumina solara,bec..), dar vedem perfect fara a apela la ochii fizici, atunci cand parasim accidental sau deliberat corpul fizic(Out of Body Experience) sau cand traim experienta din apropierea mortii(Near Death Experience)

Ce este lumina lumii?
Nicidecum lumina Soarelui.

The Meaning of Human Being: Our Duty is Awakening to our original nature, realize freedom from the dark cavern(Enlightenment), finding or recalling our true identity, and the effect of the accomplishment of this duty is immortality instead of mortality.

Iisus vorbeste despre lumina dinlauntru..sa n-o lasam acoperita sub obroc...

Lumina nu trebuie cautata si adusa din afara; lumina va iesi la iveala dinlauntrul nostru.. doar daca intrati in starea in care sa va nasteti din nou(vedeti mai jos siturile referitoare la metoda de trezire pilotata)
"You do not have to bring the light from outside; the light will unfold from within only if you enter the state in which you are born again"(see below the links to Guided Awakening Method)
The same stair of hypnotic trance can be walked down stairs, using sleep, towards the outside world, that maintains our false identifications, our captivity and imprisonment in the dark cavern, or up stairs, using awareness, towards of our Inner Heaven and Freedom.

Unde este Imparatia Cerurilor ? Where is the Kingdom of Heavens ?

“Without going outside, you can know the whole world; Without looking out, you can see the Way of Heaven/(Lao Tzu 47)

"The kingdom of God cometh not with observation,Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you"(St.Luke:17:20-21)

“Cel ce cunoaste lumea(din afara) are eruditie. Cel ce se cunoaste pe sine este Iluminat" "To know others is to have erudition, To know oneself is to be Enlightened.(Lao tzu,33)

"Incearca sa intri in tezaurul tau si vei gasi tezaurul Cerului; Celui ce se cunoaste pe sine toate lucrurile ii sunt date. Fiindca a te cunoaste pe tine insuti reprezinta implinirea tuturor lucrurilor"."Try to enter your treasure house and you will see the treasure house of Heaven; To him who knows himself knowledge of all things is given. For knowing oneself is the fulfillment of the knowledge of all things"(Isaac din Syria)

(Arsenie Boca, Cararea Imparatiei)

Pierre Teilhard de Chardin :

"We are not human beings having a spiritual experience ;We are spiritual beings having a human experience"
"Nu suntem fiinte umane care au o experienta spirituala ; Suntem fiinte spirituale care au o experienta umana(in trup material)"
Adica nu suntem paharul(vasul material), ci apa nemuritoare a vietii aflata in el ...

Namely, we are not the vessel, the glass of water, but the immortal water in it .

That is why Pierre Teilhard de Chardin said:

"Growing old is like being increasingly penalized for a crime you haven't committed"

"Imbatranirea este ca si cum am fi progresiv pedepsiti pt. o crima pe care nu am comis-o"

What we haven't committed ?
We didn't link our material body to the source...the spring of life..we didn't realized the graal in our heart , the awakening of love, the holographic state of existence..

Cei care beneficiaza de crima comisa: dupa ce isi culpabilizeaza semenii si dupa ce Imparatia Cerurilor este plasata in afara noastra, se transforma in mediatori, in mijlocitori si in negustori ai iubirii si iertarii(comertul cu indulgente)
Cei ce cred ca stiu, dar nu au scapat de orbire (vederea mijlocita de minte);

“Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You shut the kingdom of heaven in men's faces. You yourselves do not enter, nor will you let those enter who are trying to” (Matthew 23:13)
“Nimeni, aprinzand faclia, n-o ascunde sub un vas, sau n-o pune sub pat, ci o aseaza in sfesnic, pentru ca cei ce intra sa vada lumina. (Luca 8.16)
“No one lights a lamp and hides it in a jar or puts it under a bed. Instead, he puts it on a stand, so that those who come in can see the light.(Luke 8.16)
Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house(Matthew 5:15)

GUIDED AWAKENING

The same stair to freedom

to discover our true identity;the memory of our past lives

and enslavement-Trance

Each human being is a brainwashed god, an eternal existence IS-BE

Suntem zei amnezici fiinte eterne care "SUNT PT. A FI" [IS-BE] in prezentul nesfarsit ..fiinte sterse..deliberat ..captive pe o planeta inchisoare...dotata cu dispozitive de captare si stergere..de catre "Vechiul Imperiu" Galactic..fiinte conditionate...programate sa se identifice cu un corp material efemer ...
Infrangerea flotei spatiale a "Vechiul Imperiu" Galactic din sistemul nostru solar in 1150 e.n a condus la inflorirea stiintei si culturii pe Terra..
"The Domain Expeditionary Force has observed a resurgence in science and culture of the Western world since 1150 AD when the remaining remnants of the space fleet of the "Old Empire" in this solar system were destroyed

In galaxie se cauta o metoda de recuperare a adevaratei noastre identitati, a memoriei si deprinderilor pe care le-am dobandit in miliarde de miliarde de ani de existenta

The vested interest of the "Old Empire" prison system is to prevent you from looking at your own soul. They fear that you will see in your own memory the slave masters who keep you imprisoned. The prison is made of shadows in your mind. The shadows are made of lies, and pain, and loss, and fear.

Tinta este recuperarea memoriei si a adevaratei noastre identitati

The true geniuses of civilization are those IS-BEs who will enable other IS-BEs to recover their memory and regain self-realization and self-determination
A scientist can not learn to see until he realizes that he is blind.
Omenirea are nevoie sa cunoasca raspunsurile continute in aceste documente . Cine suntem noi ? De unde venim? Care este telul nostru pe Terra ? Este omenirea singura in univers

Mankind needs to know the answers to questions which are contained in these documents. Who are we? Where did we come from? What is our purpose on Earth? Is Mankind alone in the universe? If there is intelligent life elsewhere why have they not contacted us?

Science is the religion of matter. It worships matter. The paradigm of science is that creation is all, and the creator is nothing. Religion says the creator is all, and the creation is nothing. These two extremes are the bars of a prison cell. They prevent observation of all phenomenon as an interactive whole.
Therefore, do not look to scientists to save Earth or the future of humanity. Any so-called "science" that is solely based on the paradigm that existence is composed only of energy and objects moving through space is not a science. Such beings utterly ignore the creative spark originated by an individual IS-BE and collective work of the IS-BEs who continually create the physical universe and all universes.

Unfortunately this ignorance has been very carefully and forcefully instilled in human beings by the "Old Empire" to ensure that IS-BEs on this planet will not be able to recover their innate ability to create space, energy, matter and time, or any other component part of universes.

As long as awareness of the immortal, powerful, spiritual "self" is ignored, humanity will remain imprisoned until the day of its own, selfdestruction and oblivion.

Love:A Mystic Trance Gate To be Beyond You and me -De Mesmer Con Amor

When you love see the divine in the other being ... use your love force to awake,to realise your true identity .Totally in love with you... I lose my little ego and I know you... as myself.In deep love and mystic trance it happens that the two persons are one ;Patanjali's book(Yoga Sutra) speaks about holographic functioning of our mind:In deep trance it happens that the knower and the known are not two; to discover that there is no separation between us and the Divine Consciousness look in yourselves in the moment you fall in love.. when "one single soul inhabits two bodies";

Mesmerizing Mesmer – How Can I Not Love You

..

In true love is possible to go beyond the Illusion (maya) of duality and separatedness from others ..is possible to see and taste the Holographic Reality of Being , what Sri Aurobindo also calls Omnipresent Reality (Brahman) ... "In true love is one soul inhabiting two bodies" or 'Love is composed of a single soul dwelling in two bodies" (Aristotle) "Human misery is more often caused not so much by stupidity as by ignorance, particularly our own ignorance about ourselves." (Carl Sagan);

Reintoarcerea la Mesmer

Ambroise August Liebault demonstrated at the end of his life that suggestion alone can't produce a trance of little children or animals-but this trance can be accomplished using mesmerism,a process of inducing trance through a series of passes he made with his hands . He worked with a person's animal magnetism (mental and orgonic energies). Hippolite Bernheim used only a part of Liebault's methods , which he carefully documented and produced a reference for medical hypnosis called "Suggestive Therapeutics."

History of Hypnotism

Hypnosis is older than medicine itself and has been with us since mankind had its beginnings. Virtually every culture and race of people has used it. Cave drawings suggest that man was experimenting with hypnosis 100,00 years ago. In Biblical times, people went to "sleep temples" to be cured of their illnesses by the Egyptian priests. The ancient Chinese employed hypnotic techniques in the form of prayer and meditation. There is evidence that the Romans used "magic sleep" for various purposes. The Greeks unknowingly used hypnosis, thinking that cures came from the Gods.

Hippocrates wrote about impressing health on the ill by inducing trances and making passes. Throughout the centuries, many great medical men have studied, researched, and experimented with hypnosis. In doing so, they usually were labeled charlatans, quacks, or imposters. It is impossible to mention all of those individuals who contributed to the development and progress of modern hypnosis, but it seems necessary to mention a few. Ancient history: Pre-History to Mid-18th Century Shamans, religious rituals, sweat lodge ceremonies, music, drumming, chanting, drugs and meditation

Pre-History to 3,000 BCE (BCE = BC, and CE = AD in modern history writing.) Shamans and medicine people learned early on to make suggestions to the sick and convince them they would get well. Many of the remedies they employed were given in an atmosphere of high excitement, accompanied with drumming, the use of fire, and other mysteries. Kings and leaders, including Genghis Khan, found their messages controlled the bicameral minds of early human beings.

3,000 BCE to 1,700 CE Wong Tai, the Father of Chinese Medicine (2,600 BCE) left details of trance-producing incantations and healing activities. The Jewish Scriptures, the Talmud, and the Hindu Vedas gave detailed accounts of procedures we might consider today to be hypnosis. Hipprocates, the Father of Western Medicine, wrote about hypnotic incidents. We get the term "hypnosis" from the Greek word for sleep. Jesus of Nazareth and his disciples cured illnesses with a technique that has been described by some scholars as hypnotherapy. 1,700 CE to 1,900 CE In 1774, Dr. Franz Anton Mesmer, an Austrian physician, witnessed exorcisms by Fr. Maximilian Hell, who touched subjects with an iron cross. Mesmer developed a practice he called "Animal Magnetism." His hypnotic work was dismissed by a French committee of inquiry, including the American Minister in Paris, Benjamin Franklin. Franklin declared it was the imagination of Mesmer's subjects rather than his power that produced the beneficial results. Surgeon John Elliotson, a leading doctor in London, performed 1,834 surgical operations using magnetism. James Braid, a Scottish physician, renamed the technique hypnosis from the Greek word for sleep. It was becoming increasingly obvious that it was the client's imagination that made hypnotism work, and not any power possessed by the hypnotist. In India, British surgeon James Esdaile performed thousands of operations using hypno-anesthesia. His important contribution was officially ignored. In France, a country physician, Ambroise August Liebault, treated some of his patients with hypnosis. He was the first man to actually teach that hypnosis is suggestion accepted by clients, and not any kind of power that hypnotists exercise over them. This is now taken for granted by professional hypnotists.

1,500 CE to the Present French pharmacist Émile Coué developed theories of waking hypnosis and auto-suggestion that he successfully brought from France to the United States. He finally established the important concept that all hypnosis is self-hypnosis. In America, Dr. Milton Erickson developed new psychological techniques that revolutionized the clinical practice of hypnotism. Hypnotism was used to treat trauma cases in the two World Wars. Dentists began to use hypnotic-anesthesia regularly in their practices, and recognition of the therapeutic practice of hypnotism was granted by dental and medical associations in several countries. Since the 1950s, professional associations for hypnotists have been formed in many countries, including the USA and Britain. National laws have recognized the validity of hypnotism, whether practiced by medical doctors or by professionally certified lay practitioners. Many new techniques have been developed to enhance the effectiveness of the work done by hypnotists, including Light and Sound induction devices.

Some famous historical personalities who used hypnosis and auto-suggestion Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (1749-1832)

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-91),

Frederick Chopin (1810-1849)

Thomas Edison (1847-1931)

Sigmund Freud (1856-1939)

Henry Ford (1863-1947)

Winston S. Churchill (1874-1965)

Carl Gustav Jung (1875-1961)

Albert Einstein (1879-1955)

One thing that will become apparent in the following is that many of those we consider to be pioneers in the field of hypnosis were frequently dismissed by their peers. Even though many proved to be very successful healers.

1734 - 1815 Franz Anton Mesmer was born in Vienna. Mesmer is considered the father of hypnosis. He is remembered for the term Mesmerism which described a process of inducing trance through a series of passes he made with his hands and/or magnets over people. He worked with a person's animal magnetism (mental and orgonic energies). The medical community eventually discredited him despite his considerable success treating a variety of ailments.

1795-1860 James Braid, an English physician, originally opposed mesmerism (as it became to be known) but then became interested. He said that cures were not due to animal magnetism, but rather to suggestion. He developed the eye fixation technique (also know as Braidism) of inducing relaxation and called it hypnosis (after Hypnos, the Greek god of sleep), as he thought the phenomenon was a form of sleep. Later, realizing his error, he tried to change the name to monoeidism (meaning, influence of a single idea) however, the original name stuck.

1825 - 1893 Jean Marie Charcot, a French neurologist, disagreed with the Nancy School of Hypnotism and contended that hypnosis was simply a manifestation of hysteria. There was bitter rivalry between Charcot and the Nancy group (Liebault and Bernheim). He revived Mesmer's theory of Animal Magnetism and identified the three stages of trance; lethargy, catalepsy and somnambulism.

1845 - 1947 Pierre Janet was a French neurologist and psychologist who was, initially, opposed to the use of hypnosis until he discovered its relaxing effects and promotion of healing. Janet was one of the few people who continued to show an interest in hypnosis during the Psychoanalytic Age.

1849-1936 Ivan Petrovich Pavlov - a Russian physiologist who actually was more focused on the study of the digestive process. He is known primarily for his development of the concept of the conditioned reflex (or Stimulus Response Theory). In his classic experiment, he trained hungry dogs to salivate at the sound of a bell, which was previously associated with the sight of food. He was awarded the Nobel Prize for Physiology in 1904 for his work on digestive secretions. Though he had nothing to do with hypnosis, his Stimulus Response Theory is a cornerstone in linking and anchoring behaviors, particularly in NLP.

1857 - 1926 Émile Coué a physician formulated the Laws of Suggestion. He is also known for encouraging his patients to say to themselves 20-30 times each night before going to sleep, "Everyday in every way, I am getting better and better." He also discovered that delivering positive suggestions when prescribing medication proved to be a more effective cure than prescribing medications alone. He eventually abandoned the concept of hypnosis in favor of just using suggestion, feeling hypnosis and the hypnotic state impaired the efficiency of the suggestion.

1856-1939 - Sigmund Freud traveled to Nancy and studied with Liebault and Bernheim, and then did additional study with Charcot. Freud did not incorporate hypnosis in his therapeutic work, however, because he felt he could not hypnotize patients to a sufficient depth, felt that the cures were temporary, and that hypnosis stripped patients of their defenses. Freud was considered a poor hypnotist, given his paternalism. However, his clients often went into trance and he often, unknowingly, performed non-verbal inductions when he would place his hand on his patient's head to signify the doctor-dominant, patient-submissive roles. Because of his early dismissal of hypnosis in favor of psychoanalysis, hypnosis was almost totally ignored.

1875-1961 - Carl Jung, a student and colleague of Freud's, rejected Freud's psychoanalytical approach and developed his own interests. He developed the concept of the collective unconscious and archetypes. Though he did not actively use hypnosis, he encouraged his patients to use active imagination to change old memories. He often used the concept of the inner guide in healing work. He believed that the inner mind could be accessed through tools like the I Ching and astrology. The conservative medical community rejected him as a mystic. However, healers actively embrace many of his ideas and theories to this day.

1932-1974 - Milton Erickson, a psychologist and psychiatrist pioneered the art of indirect suggestion in hypnosis. He is considered the father of modern hypnosis. His methods bypassed the conscious mind through the use of both verbal and nonverbal pacing techniques including metaphor, confusion, and many others. He was a colorful character and has immensely influenced the practice of contemporary hypnotherapy, and its official acceptance by the AMA. His work, combined with the work of Satir and Perls, was the basis for Bandler and Grinder's Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP).

A Return to Mesmer

The modern art of hypnotism started in Vienna with a man by the name of Franz (originally Friedrich) Anton Mesmer, born May 23, 1734, Iznang auf der Höri, near Radolfzell, on the German side of Lake Constance; died March 5, 1815, Meersburg, Germany.. Franz Anton Mesmer was born and raised in the Swabian village of Iznang auf der Höri, near the Bodensee (Lake of Constance). His father was a forester employed by the archbishop of Konstanz; his mother the daughter of a locksmith. It was a large family, Franz Anton was the third of nine children, Catholic, and not particularly prosperous. After preliminary studies in a local monastic school in Konstanz, Mesmer commenced the study of philosophy at the Jesuit university of Dillingen, Bavaria, changing in 1752 to theology, presumably as a scholarship student preparing for the priesthood. He continued his studies from 1753 at the University of Ingolstadt, where he soon abandoned theology. It is not known when and where he obtained his doctorate in philosophy The modern hypnosis, however, is in debt not with a physician but to a clergyman, a catholic priest who lived at Klosters, Switzerland. Father Johann Gassner used hypnotic techniques to perform what he considered to be exorcisms. Mesmer was said to have watched a number of performances by Gassner in the early 1770's. Mesmer, unable to believe Gassner's hypothesis that patients were possessed by demons, believed that the metal crucifix held by the Father was responsible for magnetizing the patient and hence developed his ideas and explanation of the results into a theory of animal magnetism, which he first tested in 1774 by treating a 28 year old female, Franziska Osterlin. Mesmer applied magnets to his patients' bodies and produced remarkable results, especially in the case of a young woman suffering from hysteria. Unlike Hell, Mesmer did not attribute his cures to any power in the magnets themselves. Instead, he argued that the body was analogous to a magnet and that the fluid ebbed and flowed according to the laws of magnetic attraction. Having moved from «animal gravitation» to «animal magnetism,», in 1775 he announced his new theory in Sendschreiben an einen auswärtigen Arzt. This work was reprinted several times. Mesmer may have believed that he possessed "animal magnetism" and that he possessed healing forces; basing his practice on these concepts, he developed therapeutic sessions resembling séances. Mesmer at first used magnets, electrodes, and other devices to effect his cures, but, after arousing suspicion among the Viennese physicians, he preferred to utilize his hands. At the séances several patients sat around a vat of dilute sulfuric acid while holding hands or grasping iron bars protruding from the solution. Mesmer used hypnosis to cure anything from minor aches and pains to blindness. We get the term mesmerized from him, which describes the process he used to induce a trance over his subject. He would make a series of passes with his hands or a magnet over people. He said that he was working with a persons animal magnetism. In discussions of hypnotic suggestion the question of "rapport" was again raised. Joseph Delboeuf introduced the idea of reciprocal suggestion. Pierre Janet and Alfred Binet spoke of "electivity," of "somnambulant passion" and "experimental love." Additionally, there was interest in the psychology of hypnotic states of consciousness. These were described in terms of dissociation (Janet) or hypnoid states (Sigmund Freud and Josef Breuer).Although he claimed to help many people he was eventually discredited by the medical community. One of those who discredited him eventually became interested in his work. James Braid, an English physician, said that these cures were not due to animal magnetism, but could be attributed to suggestion. He developed an eye fixation technique and eventually came up with the term hypnotism. Later on a man by the name of Emile Coue came upon the scene and developed the Laws of suggestion which he used as guide-lines for his studies. The most recent psychologist to have an impact in the field of hypnosis was the father of modern hypnosis, Milton Erickson. His non verbal and verbal pacing techniques are still used to this day. To look at hypnosis and say that it is one certain thing is very difficult to do, because the very nature of hypnosis is still a matter of great debate. There are those who see hypnosis as a state, or "state theorists", and those who don't believe it is a state, or "non state theorists". The main argument of the state theorist is that there is something different about the mental state of one who has been hypnotized. This is not easy to prove, and so there are not many state theorists. On the other hand there are the non state theorists who believe that there is nothing different or more correct about being hypnotized. Although both sides can clearly say what they believe hypnosis is not, they cannot agree on what it is. The most popular view of hypnosis is that it is a form of sleep. This is because the person who is hypnotized, looks like someone who is either asleep, or falling asleep, or because of the ease at which a person falls asleep when suggested by the hypnotist, and also because some of the drugs that induce sleep can also produce the characteristics of a hypnotic trance. But this was disproved by M.J. Bass, who did a number of experiments on heart rate, EEG patterns, and respiration, and found that sleep has nothing to do with the hypnotic state, it is a completely separate state of being. If anything this trance state can be compared to that of daydreaming or the very initial stages of sleep. In these stages your awareness is shifted, you are in a very relaxed state and you are also highly suggestible. In a hypothetical situation if we were to look at a time line of EEG patterns we would see at the one end the delta and theta waves of a person who is in deep sleep. If we were to move up the line a little way we could see the brain waves of some one who is meditating, and if we went farther up we could eventually see the brain waves of someone who had been hypnotized. What this shows us is that sleep and hypnosis cannot occur at the same time so therefore, hypnosis is not sleep. The most simple and accepted description of hypnosis that can be given is that it is an altered state of conscious. According to Erika Fromm (1979) "An altered state of consciousness is a cognitive state different from the waking state." (p83) To reach the state of hypnosis there are a few different methods. One popular method is that of induction. This is basically a series of suggestions from the hypnotist to the party being hypnotized. Usually this consists of immobilization, which involves having the subject sit quietly in a comfortable chair, and often to fixate their eyes. From there the hypnotist uses monotony, or the simple repetition of his voice to put the patient into a kind of partial sleep. While the patient is experiencing this partial sleep, they start to regress, and are shut off from the outside world, except for the voice of the hypnotist. Through this continuous entering of the hypnotists voice it invades the patients thoughts. Eventually the patient becomes confused and begins to think that the hypnotists voice is his own thoughts. This confusion is what causes the patient to become highly suggestible. What we see overall is that the patients awareness is lowered as well, their sensory output is suppressed. Gill and Brenman (1959) describe what the hypnotist does, (1) he impoverishes the inflow of sensory stimuli to the subject by limiting the subjects bodily activity, (2) attempts to alter the quality of bodily awareness of the subject, (3) suggests a kind of dissociation, by focusing his attention on a movement itself, so that movements that normally take place voluntarily may take place involuntary, and, finally, (4) breaks into a normal adjustment of the subjects human relationships by taking over control of the subject through creating an atmosphere of quasi magic. This in turn leads into state of hypnosis. Although this is a very effective way to bring about hypnosis, in is not necessary to go through this particular induction process. Weitzenhoffer, Gough, and Landes (1959), discovered that they could produce the state of hypnosis by informing the people they were going to be hypnotized and using a separate form of induction involving an eye fixation technique. They also tried this technique with people who were not informed that they were going to be hypnotized and found that it did not work. So although this technique can be successful, hypnosis will only occur under certain conditions.

Are Siddhis real?
Bipin Joshi said :"This is always a debatable issue. generally you will find two groups on this issue. One says that Siddhis are false because modern science can not test them. The other will blindly believe on them without any reasoning. I feel both the groups are missing something. Instead of talking in general I would answer this question for myself. Yes. I do believe in Siddhis. But wait...before you label my belief as blind faith, let me tell you my reasoning behind it.
I simply disagree that Siddhis are false just because modern science currently can not verify their claim. History shows that impossible things have become easily possible over a period of time.
San Giuseppe da Copertino

Did stone age man ever believed that one day he is going to use fancy gadgets such as pocket PCs? Did people believed that steam can run a huge engine? Did people believed that they can talk with others sitting thousands of miles away? No. But time
proved all these beliefs wrong. Science and technology made all these things possible. I look at Siddhis from the same view. Today they are out of reach of modern science but possibly one day they will be within our reach and then will not be called as Siddhis but Scientific Methods!
If somebody holds a piece of wood in front of you and tells you that this piece consists of millions of atoms. Will you believe him? You will because you believe that modern science has proved this already. Will you every time ask for a proof? Certainly not. Will you call this a blind faith? Same things goes with Siddhis too. Ancient Indian Yogis mastered them, classified them and mentioned about them in scriptures. They proved them thousands of
years ago. Instead of discarding their existence we should try re-inventing them. Now let me ask few more questions. Do you believe that dinosaur existed on this earth and look the way as illustrated in science museums? Do you believe that man evolved from monkey? Do you believe that only earth has
leaving beings? Probably your answer is Yes. But don't you think it is blind faith? On what basis your answer is yes? No body knows for sure (100% sure) whether answers to the above questions is Yes or No. Scientists are still
playing unending debate on these questions. Then how can you believe them? If you can believe these things then you should also be open to accept the possibility of existence of Siddhis.
The existence of Siddhis is mentioned in many ancient Yogic manuals. For example, Patanjali's Yoga Sutras contain
one entire chapter (third chapter out of four) called Vibhuti Pada dedicated to Siddhis. Now see another funny thing. Many so called scientific minded people wholeheartedly accept his teachings from Chapter 1, 2 and 4 but
they discard Chapter 3. Isn't this funny? I can not call this attitude a scientific one. Why would an author like
Patanjali, who has presented the science of Raja Yoga in such a step-by-step and scientific manner, add Siddhis if they are false? Just for fun? or just to put some mystery so that his writing become interesting? I don't
think so.
It seems that Siddhis were neatly classified in various levels. Why somebody will do such neat classification for something which doesn't exists? Think over it...
Even today there are examples of people seeing divine light, hearing distant sounds, knowing future events etc.
If you practice Yoga regularly with all the specified rules and guidelines even you can get such experiences.
They may not be as powerful as the Siddhis but they do indicate that things beyond the laws of nature can happen.
Instead of challenging them and inviting such a person in laboratory for testing why not follow Yoga way and experience ourselves? I think that would be the healthier attitude"...

Siddhis (Sanskrit: siddhih) is the Sanskrit term used in Hinduism and Tantric Buddhism for Spiritual Powers (psychic ability, miracles, supernormal powers, graces, gifts,"joriki" in Japanese), a word that literally means "accomplishments", "perfections" "attainments" or "success".

These spiritual powers supposedly vary from relatively simple forms of Clairvoyance to being able to levitate, to be present at various places at once, to become as small as an atom, to materialize objects, to have access to memories from past lives, and more.

In Yoga Sutra siddhis are by-products of awakening and samyama(concentration-dharana,meditation-dhyana and mystic trance-samadhi) but Patanjali mentions all the other ways for attaining supernormal powers in Pada(chapter) 4 sutra 1:

YS 4.1. Puterile supranaturale (siddhis) pot fi obtinute prin nastere (janman), droguri (aushadhi), incantatii (mantra), asceza (tapas) si transa (samadhi) ; E: The supernatural powers (siddhis) may be obtained either through birth [janman] or can be activated by drugs (aushadhi), recitation of incantations (Mantras), ascetic practices (tapas) and through trance (samadhi); Les pouvoirs magiques sont le reultat de naissance (janman),ou engendres par l'utilisation de plantes (aushadhi), par la recitation des formules magiques (mantra), par la pratique de l' ascese (tapas) et par l'union enstatique ou trance(samadhi).

There are many perspectives of attaining Siddhis. One school of thought states that they are a normal set of occurrences(siddhis are by-products of samyama and awakening) that should not be focused upon because they will pull one from the path. Other perspectives hold that each siddhi should be pursued because it will allow one to understand the power of the Godhead. Siddhis can occur in two ways: naturally, or as a result of extended practice of austerities. They are often mentioned in conjunction with Riddhi (pl Riddhis), which means material or worldly wealth, power, luxurious lifestyles, etc.

1- psychic (center of the Head) ~ no transcendence : mainly used by people like Illuminati, white and black brotherhood [don't you remember Yoda Vs Darth Sidious? And Dart Vader was previously a Jedi Knight…], magicians, and at a lower level trained scientists like Nikola Tesla

Nina Kulagina mind powers

2- the Hara (the tan tien center itself) ~ semi transcendence : great martial and Taoist masters - Ueshiba, Confucius, Lao Tzu, etc..
3- the sun inside (the awakened energetical heart) ~ full transcendence : the true Force, the way of "Avatara" and "prophets" - Jesus, yogi Babaji Maharaj, Simon Kimbangu, Simao Toko, Sathya Sai Baba, Swami Premananda, etc..

All these 4 potentials can be developed with specific practices

for the 0 : NLP, selfhypnosis, rebirthing, mental focusing, etc.
for the 1st : Raja Yoga, shamanism, parapsychology, etc.. all structured methods dealing with the focusing of the energy into the psychic center of the head
for the 2nd :
Qi gong, tibetan Tumo, Taoist practices, etc.
for the 3rd : solar meditation ~ the prayer with the energetical core of our heart, the secret of divine Enlightenment. Bhakti,
in one sense
, is the genuine but pale reminiscence of the unmemorable sadhana.

This may sound far away from what is now commonly admitted as enlightenment. And enlightenment is for individual only and never taken as a group, otherwise it leads to a

Why this information is not so easily available in the market ? Perhaps because most "Gurus" have no idea about it !!… and are not so sincere to recognize their lack of achievement before taking students ; and most of the time we, students, are only in need of easy consumption even in spirituality.

MYSTIC TRANCE AND HYPNOSIS

The essential differences between the mystic trance and shamanic trance are:
1.the first is a way to the Center..the second is a way to Periphery
2.one uses direct experience connected to the reality that exists "here and now"to the omnipresent Light outside our "cavern"(see:Socrates's maieutics); the second is a mediated experience connected to recordings(our own memory or our external devices of recording sounds and images can't replace the direct experience of Divine Light );
3.the first uses our own consciousness or the self-awareness;the second a delegated consciousness or awareness(the shaman;hypno-therapist)

YS 2.4. Avidya (orbirea,ignoranta) este izvorul celorlalte kleshas [cauzelor suferintelor; izvoarelor de perturbatii(vrittis)],fie ca ele sunt prasupta(adormite,latente; nemanifestate), tanu-vichinna(fluctuante, slabe, atenuate) ori udaranam(in curs de desfasurare,active, manifestate);

YS 2.4.Avidya (ignorance;blindness) is the source of all the other kleshas [causes of suffering; sources of perturbations(vrittis)] in different states of manifestation: prasupta(latent), tanu-vichinna(fluctuant) ori udaranam(in manifestation);

YS 2.3. Kleshas [cauzele suferintelor;izvoarele de perturbatii(vrittis)] sunt:avidya(orbirea,ignoranta), asmita(senzatia existentei separate ca individualitate,limitarea intregului la parte),raga(atractia;atasarea, cautarea surselor de placere;inlocuirea lui "a fi" cu "a avea",dvesha(aversiunea,repulsia,evitarea sau frica de sursele de durere),abhinivesha(atasarea de viata;frica de moarte;identificarea vietii cu aceea a corpului grosier);

The old paradigm and its premise stated that we began as biology in the womb of our mothers. Telliard deChardin tells us that "we are not a human being trying to attain a spiritual experience, but, rather, we are spiritual beings having a human experience".You are not a body with a soul..a glass with water..but a soul with a material vehicle..behind body..names..persons(in greek:persona=mask)..we all are one flame of Divine Existence;

"The assumption that truth is somehow absent and needs to be found is culturally ingrained whether we are religious or not. Our uninspected cultural behaviors of proposing and seeking 'higher realities' known as God or enlightenment have been spread as doctrine through societies as instruments of political power… The idea of human imperfection that is deeply ingrained in the social mind, in old scientific and religious thinking blinds us to the perfection that is already in us, as us, as Life itself, as Nature "her"self.

Do not search for the Divine as if it is absent. Begin your way as a participation in the wonder of Life as it is already perfectly Given;Truth is not something to be found. Truth is already present in you, right here, right now, as the Life that is you.. Truth is not something we have to seek out. It is not something that is absent and far away, requiring great effort to find. Truth is present within you as the Life that is you... all people and all things were equally divine .return to this attitude, to see the divine continually, equally, and already present in all. to accept ourselves as such, and to reject any teaching or system that denied this fact..

We are not separate; we cannot be separate from Nature, which sustains us in a vast interdependence with everything. The universe comes perfectly and is awesome in its integration and infinite existen"(Mark Whitwell)

"Dogmele religioase , care pornesc de la faptul ca nu avem totul acum si aici in noi insine, sunt false si contrazic mesajul lui Iisus care a spus:"IMPARATIA LUI DUMNEZEU ESTE INLAUNTRUL TAU!"(Luke 17:21); Ni s-a implantat ideea sa mergem ..sa cautam in alta parte..ca si cum ceva este absent; Obiceiul de a cauta in afara este implantul socio-cultural din noi …adevarul nu trebuie gasit si nici cautat fiindca se afla in mine ...se afla in fiecare fiinta..in tine..Noi nu incercam sa ajungem nicaieri ca si cum ceva ar fi absent .Nu incercam sa ajungem la Dumnezeu.. ca si cum Dumnezeu ar fi absent aici .Asta ne face nefericiti.. asta face omenirea sa fie nefericita.. si permite unora sa zboare cu avioanele in cladiri .Este o mare negare a minunii conditiei noastre naturale .. Sa cautam in alta parte.. ca si cum adevarul s-ar afla in alta parte ..Acesta este un implant socio-cultural… ca un software gresit sau ca un virus ce a distrus programul initial si s-a dat comanda in mod mecanic ca evidenta sa fie stearsa ca irelevanta..Cautam adevarul ca si cum el ar fi absent ..desi el exista in respiratie..in bataile inimii.."

"I love your divine essence" said Rumi, the greatest poet of mystical love..

"Do not admire the decoration of Love

But involve yourself in the essence,

The perfume that invades and touches you

The beginning and the end.

Discovered, this replaces all else,

The apparent and the unknowable.

Time and space are slaves to this presence."

Let your heart always be invaded by Love's essence.

May my heart always be touched, drunken with Love!"(Rumi)

Reintoarcerea la Mesmer -

Ambroise August Liebault demonstrated at the end of his life that suggestion alone can't produce a trance of little children or animals-but this trance can be accomplished using mesmerism,a process of inducing trance through a series of passes he made with his hands . He worked with a person's animal magnetism (mental and orgonic energies). Hippolite Bernheim used only a part of Liebault's methods , which he carefully ..ed and produced a reference for medical hypnosis called "Suggestive Therapeutics."

PSYCHIC SEXUALITY -The Bio-Psychic "Anatomy" of Sexual Energies -INGO SWANN

tabel istorie hipnoza History of Hypnotism

Hypnosis is older than medicine itself and has been with us since mankind had its beginnings. Virtually every culture and race of people has used it. Cave drawings suggest that man was experimenting with hypnosis 100,00 years ago.

In Biblical times, people went to "sleep temples" to be cured of their illnesses by the Egyptian priests. The ancient Chinese employed hypnotic techniques in the form of prayer and meditation. There is evidence that the Romans used The Greek God Hypnosis"magic sleep" for various purposes.

Ancient history: Pre-History to Mid-18th Century Shamans, religious rituals, sweat lodge ceremonies, music, drumming, chanting, drugs and meditation

..> ..> ..>..> ..> ..>..>..>..>..>

Pre-History to 3,000 BCE
(BCE = BC, and CE = AD in modern history writing.)
  • Shamans and medicine people learned early on to make suggestions to the sick and convince them they would get well. Many of the remedies they employed were given in an atmosphere of high excitement, accompanied with drumming, the use of fire, and other mysteries.

  • Kings and leaders, including Genghis Khan, found their messages controlled the bicameral minds of early human beings.

3,000 BCE to 1,700 CE
  • Wong Tai, the Father of Chinese Medicine (2,600 BCE) left details of trance-producing incantations and healing activities.

  • The Jewish Scriptures, the Talmud, and the Hindu Vedas gave detailed accounts of procedures we might consider today to be hypnosis.

  • Hipprocates, the Father of Western Medicine, wrote about hypnotic incidents. We get the term "hypnosis" from the Greek word for sleep.

  • Jesus of Nazareth and his disciples cured illnesses with a technique that has been described by some scholars as hypnotherapy.

1,700 CE to 1,900 CE
  • In 1774, Dr.

  • Surgeon John Elliotson, a leading doctor in London, performed 1,834 surgical operations using magnetism.

  • James Braid, a Scottish physician, renamed the technique hypnosis from the Greek word for sleep. It was becoming increasingly obvious that it was the client's imagination that made hypnotism work, and not any power possessed by the hypnotist.

  • In India, British surgeon James Esdaile performed thousands of operations using hypno-anesthesia. His important contribution was officially ignored.

  • In France, a country physician, Ambroise August Liebault, treated some of his patients with hypnosis. He was the first man to actually teach that hypnosis is suggestion accepted by clients, and not any kind of power that hypnotists exercise over them. This is now taken for granted by professional hypnotists.

1,500 CE to the Present
  • French pharmacist Émile Coué developed theories of waking hypnosis and auto-suggestion that he successfully brought from France to the United States. He finally established the important concept that all hypnosis is self-hypnosis.

  • In America, Dr. Milton Erickson developed new psychological techniques that revolutionized the clinical practice of hypnotism.

  • Hypnotism was used to treat trauma cases in the two World Wars.

  • Dentists began to use hypnotic-anesthesia regularly in their practices, and recognition of the therapeutic practice of hypnotism was granted by dental and medical associations in several countries.

  • Since the 1950s, professional associations for hypnotists have been formed in many countries, including the USA and Britain.

  • National laws have recognized the validity of hypnotism, whether practiced by medical doctors or by professionally certified lay practitioners.

  • Many new techniques have been developed to enhance the effectiveness of the work done by hypnotists, including Light and Sound induction devices.

Some famous historical personalities
who used hypnosis and auto-suggestion
Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (1749-1832)
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-91),
Frederick Chopin (1810-1849)
Thomas Edison (1847-1931)
Sigmund Freud (1856-1939)
Henry Ford (1863-1947)
Winston S. Churchill (1874-1965)
Carl Gustav Jung (1875-1961)
Albert Einstein (1879-1955)

One thing that will become apparent in the following is that many of those we consider to be pioneers in the field of hypnosis were frequently dismissed by their peers. Even though many proved to be very successful healers.

Franz Anton Mesmer 1734 - 1815 Franz Anton Mesmer was born in Vienna. James Braid

Jean Marie Charcot1825 - 1893 Jean Marie Charcot, a French neurologist, disagreed with the Nancy School of Hypnotism and contended that hypnosis was simply a manifestation of hysteria.

1857 - 1926 Emile Coue`, a physician formulated the Laws of Suggestion.

1856-1939 - Sigmund Freud traveled to Nancy and studied with Liebault and Bernheim, and thenSigmund Freud did additional study with Charcot.

1932-1974 - Milton Erickson, a psychologist and psychiatrist pioneered the art of indirect Milton Ericksonsuggestion in hypnosis.

It is not known when and where he obtained his doctorate in philosophy

The modern hypnosis, however, is in debt not with a physician but to a clergyman, a catholic priest who lived at Klosters, Switzerland.

Ancient myths throughout the world are coded instructions for esoteric practice involving a deep awareness of the human body. Ancient Greeks share common ancestry with the Hindus and that the primal traditions of all peoples involve a knowledge of trance states which is coded in myth.

In Greek mythology, Sisyphus (Greek S?s?f??; transliteration: Sísuphos) was a king punished in the underworld by being set to roll a huge rock up a hill throughout eternity.

Sisyphus was a common subject for ancient writers and was depicted by the painter Polygnotus on the walls of the Lesche at Delphi (Pausanias x. 31).

According to the solar theory, Sisyphus is the disk of the sun that rises every day in the east and then sinks into the west.[1] Other scholars regard him as a personification of waves rising and falling, or of the treacherous sea.[2] Welcker suggested that he symbolises the vain struggle of man in the pursuit of knowledge, and S. Reinach (Revue archéologique, 1904) that his punishment is based on a picture in which Sisyphus was represented rolling a huge stone up Acrocorinthus, symbolic of the labour and skill involved in the building of the Sisypheum. The 1st-century BCE Epicurean philosopher Lucretius, interprets the myth of Sisyphus as personifying politicians aspiring for political office who are constantly defeated, with the quest for power, in itself an "empty thing," being likened to rolling the boulder up the hill. THE BODY OF MYTH: Mythology, Shamanic Trance, & the Sacred Geography of the Body

THE BODY OF MYTH: Mythology, Shamanic Trance, & the Sacred Geography of the Body

J Nigro Sansonese

Long ago the ancestors of the Greeks, Romans, and Hindus were one people living on the Eurasian steppes. At the core of their religion was the "shamanic trance," a natural state in which one's consciousness achieves a profound level of inner awareness. Over the course of millennia, knowledge of shamanic trance retreated from everyday awareness and was carried on in the form of myths and distilled into spiritual practices - most notably in the Indian tradition of Yoga.

"The Body of Myth" proposes a thoroughly original theory for the origins of myth in prehistory. The basic idea is quite straightforward: myths are esoteric descriptions of "trance states." Because he needs a frame of reference within which to introduce the dynamics of trance, Sansonese turns to the work of Patanjali, an Indian yogi and adept of the second century BC , but he makes clear that his discussion of trance is not intended to apply primarily to Hindu mythology.

His main subjects are the myths of the Greco-Roman and Judeo-Christian traditions. Patanjali's classic work, "The Yoga-Sutra," is adopted as a concise description of trance that, Sansonese claims, can be applied cross-culturally to any "bija" or "object [of contemplation]." Of course, because both the Greeks and the Hindus are definitely known, on philological grounds, to have been a single people (the Indo-Europeans) in the very long ago, it should not be a surprise if their religio-mythical beliefs share a common "deep structure."

Patanjali's work, in this view, represents a highly technical elaboration of much more "primitive" shamanic trance practices and an investigation, through yoga, of the techniques of focusing awareness that continued for at least a millennium after the Indo-European peoples separated. The Greek tradition has left us no such intensive, systematic scrutiny of trance, yet the common shamanic origins survive in myth. In Sansonese's view, the bija is the human body experienced principally, but not exclusively, as awareness is focused on breathing, particularly on the experience of the effects of breathing on the skull and even within the brain itself. The breath is described as a sort of "blindman's cane" with which the shaman/yogi stimulates various organs of the body and nervous system to "feel" (Sansonese uses the term "proprioceive") his way into the organism, searching for the source of the divine presence within. Many such attempts, when rendered esoterically, become myths: A MYTH IS AN ESOTERIC DESCRIPTION OF A HEIGHTENED PROPRIOCEPTION. The clarity and comprehensiveness of this definition is "a Columbian discovery," to quote Georg Feuerstein, critically acclaimed translator of Patanjali's "Yoga-Sutra."

Different cultures used different narrative ingredients. The warlike Indo-Europeans resorted often to the tale of a siege of a sacred city (Troy and Thebes, both of which are "seven-gated" and, in Sansonese's hermeneutics, esoteric descriptions of the seven openings of perception in the medial band of the human skull), the perilous search for the Holy Grail, the struggle of Sisyphus, an onomatopoeia (or sound-imitation) for the sound of respiration in the nose, to raise the stone and be released from Hell, and so on. The Hebraic tradition was somewhat more irenic: the skull is described as an "Ark," in which the sacred objects (the Showbread, the Torah, etc.) are kept hidden from profane eyes. Descended from this tradition, is the tale of the Christ and his Crucifixion at the "Place of the Skull." Cross-cultural similarities are eerie. Though Sansonese does not point this out in his extended discussion of Sisyphus, who describes the slowing rise and fall of the breath as the shaman approaches trance, there is a startling parallel with Jesus (whose name is also sibilant, especially in Hebrew: "Yehoshua"), who falls three times on his way to the summit of Golgotha, and who is taken down from the Cross (the space between the eyes) by Joseph [of Arimathea], another highly sibilant name in Hebrew. Symbolism plays very little part here. As Sansonese repeats several times: "Myths are DESCRIPTIONS," attempts at putting into words ACTUAL EXPERIENCES, not abstract theology or psychology. This book is certainly the best book on mythology of the past quarter century because it takes the argument in an entirely new direction.
