It appears to be politics as usual in Washington. The Republican minority is busy spreading fear -- this time about healthcare reform; while the Democratic majority infights and spreads indecisiveness. Many uninsured voters like myself believed in the pledges of Democrats to fix the healthcare woes of this country. I certainly do realize that Washington politicians have all of the healthcare coverage they'll ever need. Consequently, when poor uninsured people in Iowa, or Illinois, or Texas, or Ohio, or in any number of other states die, politicians don't bat an eye. It's just one more dead poor person who'll be replaced by the next crop of newly enfranchised 18 year-olds. However, the remainder of us living sick can and will revolt -- at the polls! People are dying daily in America, and politicians treat the issue like a political football to be used for media sound bites. This whole issue is very personal to me. Last week I lost a major piece of my healthcare when a program stopped being funded by the State of Illinois. So, actually politicians on the state level are playing politics as usual just as much as those in Washington. This is sick!!! Since the majority in the House and the Senate are Democrats, the vast majority of the blame for the holdup in reform lies with them. All I can say is you're in power now Democratic Party, but it doesn't have to stay that way. Keep playing politics with my life and the lives of millions of other uninsured Americans and see what you get in return at the ballot box during upcoming elections. Heed my warning and act to save Americans, or don't and lose power...the choice is yours! Full Story: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/32174687/ns/politics-capitol_hill/

This seems to be a very good time to be a fighter jet pilot in one of the world's air forces if you're looking to fly quality aircraft. With advances in stealth and the availability of generation 4, 4.5 and 5 fighters on the marketplace, pilots have a bevy of new toys to choose from. Just as a basic primer on fighter plane generations, generation 4 fighters generally offered improvements over previous generations in agility, weapons, range, communications, navigation, radar and defensive systems. Gen 4.5 offered further improvements in radar (PESA/AESA), mission computers, navigation and communication, radar cross section reduction measures, and in some cases super cruise capability and thrust vectoring engines. Gen 5 jets include even more advancements with the most significant being stealth. The U.S. air force flies generation 4, 4.5 and 5 aircraft in the f-16 and its various block models, f-15's up through the E model, and the brand new air dominator, the generation 5 F-22 Raptor. Plus the 5th generation F-35 Lightning II is coming into service soon. The U.S. Navy and Marines fly gen 4 F/A-18's and gen 4.5 F/A-18E/F Super Hornets; and both will also fly the F-35 when it comes into service. The F-22 is not for export, but the rest are there for the air forces and naval air arms of allied nations to pick from. Additionally, the stealthy F-15SE was recently unveiled for potential export. Other nations around the world are also offering new flying chariots for knights of the air. The French are offering the 4.5 generation Rafale (although no one has bought it yet), Germany/Britain/Italy/Spain are offering the gen 4.5 Eurofighter Typhoon, Sweden has the gen 4.5 JAS-39 Gripen NG in development, India has the 4.5 gen HAL Tejas in the final stages, while the Russians have the gen 4.5 Mig-35 and SU-35; and soon will have the PAK FA (SU-50) 5th generation fighter. Even China is in the game with the 4.5 gen J-10B in the works for Pakistan. due for delivery around 2014-2015. Today also marks the start of final stage assembly for the 4th generation Sino-Pakistani JF-17/FC-1. These two reasonably priced models may hit it big in developing countries. In the JF-17 an African country can upgrade from old generation 2 Mig-21's to a capable medium tech 4th generation jet for less than $20 million. Pilots of today and the future will have many potential threats to deal with. In aircraft like these they will be better able to do so. I've been watching the news the last couple of days and seeing nothing but Michael Jackson tributes. I do understand that he was a music icon, but the outpouring of affection seems a bit twisted. Firstly, Farrah Fawcett also died yesterday and the media barely blinked. Secondly, is Michael Jackson a person who deserves all of this adoration in the first place? Yes he could sing and dance, but does talent trump character? More importantly, does talent trump character when it comes to consistent aallegations of inappropriate activities with children? That is the basic issue. Roman Polanski is the famed director of "Rosemary's Baby" and widely respected as a talented maker of films. This same person pled guilty to illegal intercourse with a minor and fled the country to avoid punishment. People still rave about his movies --even those with bad endings like "The Ninth Gate." A sextape comes out allegedly showing R. Kelly having sex with a minor, and his fans brushed it off because they liked his music. This is even after the rumors of a marriage to an underaged Aaliyah. Now the airwaves are filled with grief and praise for Michael Jackson, the celebrity who had the most legal problems in recent memory dealing allegations of inappropriate conduct with minors. I'm from the Katt Williams School of Logic. To paraphrase Katt "If people have been calling you a craxkhead for 20 years then more than likely you are a crackhead...If people have been calling you a child molester for 20 years then more than likely you are a child molester!" I don't care how talented a person is in artistic pursuits if they truly abuse or molest children. That is sick and perverse! What is just as sick is how people overlook these crimes against innocence as long as a person can sing or dance. That shows that either people are so wrapped up in pop culture that morality doesn't matter; or it shows that we have many fans of celebrities out there with a sleeping desire to molest children themselves. To borrow a lyric, I believe the children are our future...and I also believe that they might be a little safer today. Boxing has a history of curious/corrupt judging decisons due to shady backroom deals. Moments ago was yet another example of bad judging leaving one to wonder about the corruption factor in this fight and in the sport. Evander Holyfield --a 46 year-old man who was given no chance of victory-- called up what skills he had left to outbox a plodding Russian giant (Nikolai Valuev). SI.Com scored the fight overwhelmingly for Holyfield. Yet, when the scorecards were read, yet another boxer had been robbed by nefarious judging. I watch a sport program in Chicago every week on CLTV called 'Sports Page.' A frequent guest on the show is boxing promoter Bobby Hitz, who makes no secret of his dislike for boxing's rival sport: Mixed martial arts (MMA). When asked why MMA is so popular now while boxing is in decline, he frequently says that he doesn't know why because he doesn't see the excitement in quick fights with guys wrestling on the ground. I like both sports --boxing and mma-- and I do agree with Bobby that boxing is more exciting. However, I see one big reason for the switch from boxing to mixed martial arts for fan and network dollars alike. That reason is judging (i.e.fight climax). A good fight, whether in boxing or mma, builds drama and carries the hopes and aspirations of fans for their favorite warrior. Even if a fan doesn't have a favorite in the fight, a good fight begs for a good decision when judging is involved. That fight becomes tainted, and actually deflating, when you see a fighter clearly win a battle, only to have shady characters at ringside take it away. In all but one of the UFC, Pride, and Elite-XC mma fights that I've ever seen, the fighter who clearly won the fight also got the decision. Whether your fighter comes out on top or not, in mma you can see who's winning and the judges see it too. In boxing it doesn't matter who's winning the fight. It only seems to matter who the powers that be want to win. Besides the current robbery of Evander Holyfield, boxing's history is littered with bad judging decisions. I will never forget the robbery of Pernell Whitaker when he fought Julio Cesar Chavez. Pernell won every round and got a draw. In an earlier fight, that same Julio Cesar Chavez got a gift when the referee stopped a fight that he was losing to Meldrick Taylor with seconds left. I could go on listing bad decisions back to the days of Ali, and that's the sad point. Boxing has shot itself in the foot with a history of shady scoring, and it continues... Boxing powers that be heed this warning: Clean up your sport before mixed martial arts cleans you out.

When the holidays roll around you may want to give that significant other --and yourself-- something a little special. Perhaps that special something is a holiday salad tossing. Here are some tips to make that a meal that Santa would be envious of: 1. Set the mood properly for the occasion. Light some scented candles and have Christmas cookies and beverages available. This might be the time to play a Bing Crosby cd, or some other festive music. "Jingle Bell Rock" is an option. 2. Before dining on the intended meal make sure to clean the salad thoroughly. Make sure to discard any foreign debris. Wash to your satisfaction. 3. Take up a comfortable position to toss the salad. This step is very important. Failure to follow this step can lead to neck cramps and cheek spasms. 4. Hold a piece of mistletoe over the meal and toss with passion. Apple jelly and a variety of jams work well here to enhance flavor and aroma. 5. Toss until the palate has been pleased, or until a rumbling stomach is heard. If rumbling is encountered take evasive action immediately! 6. Follow up the tossed salad with engaging in the jingle bell rock, and ending with a white Christmas. Happy Holidays!

On Sunday CBS' 60 Minutes broke the story about a terrorist attack on a South African nuclear storage facility which occured last year. On Nov. 7, 2007, a team of four intruders breached an electric security fence on the perimeter of a weapons-grade uranium storage facility at Pelindaba, South Africa. One intruder made his way under the fence, then cut the power on the fence and disabled the alarms. The intruders then made their way -- over a mile past security cameras -- to the control room. The control room was manned by a female employee and her fiance, who was keeping her company that night. When the intruders were seen coming down the hallway with guns the fiance called the onsite security force for assistance. Security was 3 minutes away from the control room, but no help came for over 20 minutes. During that time the terrorists made their way into the room and subsequently beat and shot the fiance. At this time a second team of terrorists breached the security fence in a different location. The coordinated terrorist attack at Pelindaba is said to have netted nothing of value. The South African response to this attack has been one of denial. Officials won't admit that the two teams of intruders were working together; or even that the attack was aimed at gaining the weapons-grade uranium held at the facility -- when, in fact, the uranium is the only thing of value there. Two guards who were supposed to be watching the security cameras on that Nov. 7th were fired. However, it took the South African police ten months, and a 60 Minutes investigation, before they showed up and questioned the witnesses (the employee and her fiance who survived the shooting). South Africa has also rejected U.S. offers of assistance with securing the material ( Click here for the full story). To sum it all up, South Africa has weapons-grade nuclear material; has problems securing that material; is vulnerable to terrorist attacks on their nuclear stockpile; has had their stockpile attacked by terrorists; and yet refuses help to secure that material. One of these days that kind of logic will lead to a lot of people dying needless deaths. If countries are going to make nuclear weapons, or stockpile weapons-grade material, then they need to be able to take care of it. I really don't feel like dying due to someone else's stupidity or irresponsiblity.

It was revealed today that a neo-Nazi skinhead scheme to kill Sen. Barack Obama (hopefully soon to be President Barack Obama), and 88 other African-Americans -- 14 by decapitation -- had been foiled. On Oct. 22 law enforcement officials arrested 2 Southern racists for involvement in the plot: Daniel Cowart, 20, of Bells, Tenn., and Paul Schlesselman, 18, of Helena-West Helena, Ark. The target kill numbers of 88 and 14 apparently have symbolic meaning in the neo-Nazi sub-culture. Click here for the full story.

Today American helicopter gunships launched an attack 5 miles inside of Syria near the town of Abu Kamal. The Syrian border has long been used as an entry point into Iraq for foreign fighters looking to kill Americans and Iraqis. The U.S. military operation today was in response. Reportedly 8 people were killed in the raid. Click here for the full story. Syria was the target of Israeli air strikes in 2007. If Syria continues to play with fire it will get burned.

With the recent war between Russia and a vastly overmatched Georgia largely concluded, facts about the actual military struggle on the ground are coming to light. With Georgia being a former Soviet republic, as was Russia, they shared weaponry until the breakup of the Soviet Union. Since then Russia has continued to produce and upgrade modern weapons; while the much smaller Georgia has older hardware and far less of it. In fact, Georgia doesn't even have a fighter component in its air force to defend the nation's skies. Predictably the massive Russian military was victorious in the conflict/invasion, but it is instructive to see how each side utilized their weaponry on the battlefield. Taking a look at the future one can only wonder which other former Soviet bloc states are on Moscow's hitlist. The Russians miss the days of empire, and many want that empire back. Is Ukraine the next stop on Russia's military romp down imperialist memory lane? Seeing that Ukraine does not have the protection of NATO, the people of the steppes may have to rely on themselves and their Cossack warrior tradition to withstand the onslaught of the hungry Russian bear...
