Los Angeles, CA December 7, 2009– Scott Weiland, the charismatic lead singer of Stone Temple Pilots, will offer the public a rare glimpse into his personal life next week as he auctions off a variety of clothing and personal affects to benefit his ArchAngel Organization.  Weiland formed ArchAngel when his brother, Michael Weiland, passed away in early 2007 after a long struggle with addiction.  Proceeds from the auction will be given to Michael Weiland’s widow and two children.

 ....

According to Scott Weiland: “The overall idea is to grow this into something more, while still helping my brother’s family, and to also reach out and help families who are or have recently been through the same painful and seemingly hopeless situation… For now however, this is what we can and what we are able to do.  Have fun with it and know that 100% of the profits are going to help my sister in law and my niece’s Sophie and Claudette.”....

 ....

Items being auction off include a guitar signed by Stone Temple Pilots, designer suits and denim, and clothes worn on stage, at awards show, on tour and at various other public engagements.  Other items include Scott’s casual attire, clothes he wears around the house as well as some "crud" Scott had at his house or studio.  Most items are signed by Scott Weiland.  New items will also be added periodically.  The ArchAngel auction site can be accessed through http://www.SoftdriveRecords.com/archangel .  Auctions will last two weeks and all items will have inexpensive starting prices.

 ....

Live Review: Stone Temple Pilots, July 1, 2009

Music still has the power to change the world.

Stone Temple Pilots' performance at the West Hollywood House of Blues for The St. Jude Rock 'N Roll Hope Show proved that. As soon as this charity concert became announced, it sold out. That evinces the band's power. For every screaming fan in attendance, these four legends delivered something very special.

It's not the Fourth of July just yet, but Stone Temple Pilots lit up the Sunset Strip like never before. The band crept onto the stage with the cacophonous distortion of "Silvergun Superman." Frontman Scott Weiland quickly put out his cigarette and clenched the mic with an impenetrable passion. From the first note until the last, the singer sounded flawless. Weiland looked warm in his leather jacket and dapper longsleeve button up, but Dean Deleo's wall of distortion provided an even tighter blanket around his voice during the song's crescendo. With his hair parted to the side and classy shades, Weiland looked like a '50s movie star, and this performance transcended Oscar-worthy.

The band followed their enchanting opener with a one-two hit combo of "Wicked Garden" and "Vasoline," both of which saw Weiland slinking across the stage with an undeniable swagger. Then the band slowed everything down with one of their most poignant and powerful songs, "The Big Empty." Dean Deleo's solo bled true emotion with each string bend. His fiery fretwork matched Weiland's vocal vibrancy, and the two carried the song to the heavens and back as every audience member chanted along. A psychedelic "Lounge Fly" illustrated how creative bassist Robert Deleo and drummer Eric Kretz are. They locked into an airtight groove that culled from funk, classic rock and jazz.

With a huge smile, Weiland laughed, "If it's half as fun for you as it is for us, then we're doing pretty good!" It was twice as fun for the crowd though.

The band kicked into a pulse pounding rendition of the rarely played "Army Ants." The propulsive back beat blasted forward like a freight train as Weiland screamed the refrain. Then crowd favorite "Sour Girl" took hold. Deleo shined on an epic solo that took the song to a new level.

"Interstate Love Song" and "Plush" sparked massive sing-a-longs. However, the show's best moment came during another rarity, "Seven Caged Tigers." Weiland spoke again, "This is one of those songs we haven't played in awhile." He sounded poetic on the song's refrain and all of the loss, longing and confusion in the lyrics became utterly beautiful inside the House of Blues due to his delivery. The frontman sounds better than he ever has, and as the track's rhythm buoyed his vocals, it was clear that Stone Temple Pilots are still one of the best live bands ever.

Seeing the band in such a tiny space was a treat, but seeing them play songs they haven't played in years was simply rapturous. The chemistry on stage was explosive and each and every song enthralled—especially tripped-out heavy versions of "Down" and "Sin."

They played for nearly two hours, but the momentum never stopped. They kept kicking all the way through the end. The concluding salvo of "Dead and Bloated" and "Tripping On a Hole in a Paper Heart" hypnotized. Weiland's line "I'm not dead and not for sale" was fitting. Stone Temple Pilots are not going anywhere, and that's a comforting thought.

Opener Kingsize set the stage for Stone Temple Pilots. They churned out an intense set of raw rock n' roll with style and substance. Each and every chorus hit hard, and the band definitely caught the eyes of STP fans in the house. It was a powerful set from a young group that's more than worth keeping an eye on. Big things are on the horizon for them, for sure.

Rock n' roll with a purpose is the best kind of rock n' roll. Supporting St. Jude, both bands played for an extremely good cause tonight. Stone Temple Pilots can still change the world. Just wait for it. They aren't dead or for sale.

Stone Temple Pilots have been tapped to kick off the newly created St. Jude Rock ‘n’ Roll Hope Show.

The charity concert, which will take place July 1 at L.A.’s House of Blues, was co-created by Jason Thomas Gordon, the grandson of St. Jude founder and TV icon Danny Thomas, and Total Live Music’s Tom Carolan.

Joining STP for the evening are Gordon and his band, Kingsize, who just released a pair of EPs, The Good Fight and The Bad Night.

Scott Weiland had this to say about being chosen to inaugurate the charity event:

“We are humbled, honored and filled with grace by being given this very special opportunity. To be asked to play the first of what we hope will be many of these events for children in dire medical needs at St. Jude Rock n Roll show. Reading the press release I am almost embarrassed as it lists accolades of a life of music. The good life. What the rest speaks of is the horrible but true realities that those diseases bring to children and these families.”

Tickets for the show go on sale through Ticketmaster on June 6 at 10am PDT and are $67.50 each plus tax. All proceeds benefiting St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

In addition to working to find cures and save children with cancer and other catastrophic diseases, St. Jude is also the only pediatric cancer research center that provides free care for children whose families are not covered by insurance.

Complete information on St. Jude and its mission is available at StJude.org.

WE ARE SUPPRESSING NATURAL PATRIOTISM
By: Scott R. Weiland

Patriotism is a word that has been thrown around a lot this year, but I believe we have failed to define patriotism.  McCain calls himself a renegade and patriotic, but is he really?  This country was founded on patriots who were also radicals.  They had to be in order to stand up against a government that was oppressive, a government that didn't allow personal freedoms, a government that ruled and controlled by force. Does this sound familiar?  Does this sound like McCain is part of the solution, or part of the problem?

Don't get me wrong.  I'm not advocating a violent revolution.  However, this country was born out of revolution and the concept of freedom.  These promises are part of our Constitution, written as doctrines with checks and balances within the triumvirate of the Executive, Judicial, and Legislative branches of our government.  One branch should not have more power than the other, but that position has either been forgotten, or tossed out the window.  As a result of this, our voices, power, and personal liberties have grown smaller because of it.

A good example is the constitutional breakdown that now allows the government to secretly wire tap and spy on just about anyone, anytime, anywhere, without any checks and balances, all in the name of patriotism.  I've looked up the word "patriot" in Webster's and nowhere could I find a reason for a government of the people by the people and for the people to freely intimidate or spy on an American family, no matter who that American family is.

In our public schools American history is no longer a priority. It's no wonder, then, that each generation has lost its sense of natural pride, knowledge and sense of civic duty, which shows up most in simple acts such as voting or volunteering.

We have gotten ourselves into an economic mess.  We are the part of the dynamic that is creating this financial avalanche.  We have bought and sold the concept of consumerism, which has only benefitted the top one percent.  We've turned into a buy, sell, and disposable society.  We are now seeing the end of a financial myth, the end of the Reagan era. The days of America being a disposable society are coming to an end.

A good economic example is real estate. Two years ago my wife and I bought a house that was on the market for two days.  Being told we'd make a profit, we put it back on the market six months ago.  The bottom fell out of the housing market, and it sat for six months. Now we're looking at a loss.  A family member, a successful real estate broker, has had to retire due to negative income.

Politics infiltrates everything while the art, T.V., film and mostly music audiences turn a blind eye.  We once were a country built on light, a light that illuminated the dreams of millions. Sometimes that meant venturing on perilous missions; sometimes that meant living on nothing but a promise and a hope. Those promises and hopes are slowly fading and turning us cynical.

America is a beacon, but it has been tainted by promises not kept.  We shouldn't fool ourselves into thinking that in a world that is changing so rapidly, modifications or ratifications can't or shouldn't be made, especially for the good of the people, the dream, the miracle that became this nation which I  believe was Godly inspired.

Now that I've turned 41, I'm seeing things in a far different light.  I've witnessed the cold war between the Soviet Union and the United States and its recent renewed flexing of muscle. I've seen countries such as North Korea, Iran, Pakistan, India and of course, China, the fastest growing economy in the world, grow stronger and wiser after the fall of the Berlin Wall.

There was something strikingly different between when I was 22 compared to the youth I observe today.   One of the main responsibilities of a citizen is to be aware and active.  We have become so celebrity obsessed, and reality TV exposed that nothing is shocking anymore.  Nothing of value matters.  Don't get me wrong, this isn't just about a generation, it's also partly about the media and its relationship with education, American history, pop culture, and art.  It doesn't help that younger generations know more about celebrities than about the three branches of government or true patriots.

Therefore, we need to "educate".  And not The Simpsons, although a smart parody, is not real, NEITHER IS reality TV,  US Weekly.  Lights on...wake-up...this is REALITY!  The light is dimming the dream is fading.  We ought not be a country that randomly marches off to war to flex our muscle, yet we are a country that was built on honoring our commitments.   We are a country that honors our soldiers who have answered its call because that's how we won our independence, and because that is how dreams and freedoms are forged.  Once again in so many ways these are dire times and hope seems to be on the brink of slipping away.

Traveling 18 years for a living, I've seen the changes in attitudes of people around the globe.  I've seen our country go from one that everyone admired to the brunt of jokes.  Obviously, that hurts.  "We the People" can't allow it any longer; it's time for change.  It's time for hope and dreams to be fulfilled.  It's time to put America back on the road to unity, prosperity, and respect.

We need a leader who believes in that dream and has that hope. More than that we need a leader to lead us back to our country's moral principles, a leader who has the creative courage to take us forward into the future and into a better place.  I feel it, I believe it, Barack is that man, that president who can and will.

I see Barack Obama as a natural patriot because he is not afraid to attack what is wrong and has the strength to make it right.  I see Obama as a natural patriot because he has the intellectual, emotional and verbal skills to inspire. He makes us want to learn; he makes us want to grow; he makes us want to change. Obama can take us from fear to faith, he can help us redefine America in a way that our country once again becomes a beacon of hope to pride-to ourselves and to those the world over.

After looking at all that's wrong with the economy, world politics, education, and other problems that will test our new president, I don't see John McCain as the renegade and patriot he claims to be.  Instead, I see Barack Obama as the patriot, that man, that president who is ready to lead, and who can and will.

Please act, please be involved, even if what I have written has inspired you to move in the other direction (I hope that I'm not that poor a persuader).  However, when you look deep inside, don't you want to feel proud about saying "I am an American" again?
