We don't do this often - The Lovermakers, our friends from Oakland, are single of the week on iTunes. It's a great song that we think you'll dig. Get for for free at: http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewAlbum?id=330044059&s=143441. The Lovermakers new album was produced by Talking House Productions (the same folks that recorded Album 4, and a few tracks on A Band In Hope). Pass this along to your friends that might like this!

Sticker contest closed!!

Uh-oh, what have we done?!

We thought, given how expensive it will be to ship 40 lbs or more of stickers, that we would get five, maybe ten responses.

We're overwhelmed with submissions, more than 100. Too many arriving now in our email address that was set up for the auction questions and auction transactions, so the submissions are closed now.
( Fri 8/21/09 7:15pm PST)

Once we look through the submissions, we'll see if we need to open up the contest again.

Crazy people. Crazy ideas.

Fans as weird as we are!

............

If picked up in S.F. at Fillmore show 8/23/09, then shipping costs avoided.

............

Matches' stickers? lots of Matches' stickers?

We have hundreds of stickers.

About 35-40 lbs.

Maybe 4,000 - 5,000.

.. ..

Mostly Decomposer red/black bird stickers.

A few A Band in Hope cover stickers.

About a third are various early EVDKtL era, of various sizez, black/white or red/white, some bumper stickers with two stickers on it, some large 6"x4", some square with Henry, some small with "Matches."

.. ..

Yeah, kind  of funny, kind of sad, kind of ridiculous.

(This many is the result in ome mistake in ordering too many of our own designs during the EVDKtL period, and a mistake by label Epitaph double ordering Decomposer stickers.)

.. ..

So…

someone want these? Like all of these?

Some strange art project you can imagine with this resource? Some décor that will confound the viewer with repeated images?

.. ..

We are not sending out a few at a time or even a hundred or a thousand.

You need to take them all…

.. ..

(Maybe we'll split into two batches.)

.. ..

And the recipient needs to pay the shipping.

.. ..

Email your brilliant idea and your plea to be chosen to receive this echo of the Matches' promotion. Possibly no one will respond and these will end up in the dump.

Maybe just one will be inspired to request these.

.. ..

Maybe several people submit, and we'll choose which one idea is most impressive or amusing or inspiring or strange.

.. ..

All we ask of the one who gets these is that we receive email with photos and some stories of the process and response your effort receives when the project is complete, and we get to share this with the Matches' community.

.. ..

email your request and ideas to: thematchesauction@gmail.com

email subject (very important: it must have this): STICKERS REQUEST ["your last name, first initial (in the subject, not just in the body of the email)"]

First, if you missed Monday's webchat with the Matches, you can check it out here:

We have listed some more memorabilia on eBay. These are mostly just 3-day auctions, to be completed at the end of this week before the California shows.

For sale is a Commo Promo well-worn acoustic guitar, the original brainstorming pages when the Locals name was being replaced 2002, two more stencils, and other items.

Also, below is info about original first CDs, pre-Epitaph, for sale…

                             - - -

the Matches memorabilia, original E Von Dahl Killed the Locals CD, pre-Epitaph, signed

Has the song "Superman."
Does not have "Restless" or "More than Local Boys."
("Restless" and "More than Local Boys" are on the Epitaph version released 2004, but that version does not have "Superman.")

Hey, we discovered a box of 30 of these. There may be more boxes (but there won't be a lot, maybe 1 or 2 more boxes of 30).

Signed by the band (but maybe not Justin).

We are selling these directly to the buyers, not using eBay, with payment to the band via paypal.
price: $30
shipping/handling, US: $5
shipping/handling outside US: $10
(all prices are in U.S. dollars)

To reserve for purchase, be one of the first 30 to email to this address:
         thematchesEVDKtLoriginal30A@gmail.com
The subject must read exactly this:
EVDKtL CD pre-Epitaph, 30A purch request
(insert your last name, first initial)

You will be emailed back purchase instructions to pay via paypal and how to provide mailing address.

(Because the Matches are new eBay sellers, eBay does not yet allow Matches' memorabilia items to be sold with a fixed price or BuyItNow. Therefore, the Matches are selling these directly in this way. This item is listed here on eBay at a reserve or minimum price of $100 to inform fans to read the Matches' myspace blog to learn how to purchase one of these thirty at the set price of $30 plus shipping and handling. Do not purchase this CD here for $100.)

Hello, Matches' family (from manager, Miles):

Matches' memorabilia and collectibles are now up for sale at eBay.
seller = thematchesauction2009

Also, searching for "matches memorabilia" or "matches collectibles" should turn up the listings.

Note that the ending times are not all the same. Some are 7 day auctions and some are 5 day (as they were put up on eBay over the last few days), but all close by Thu or Fri.

Some more items may go up for auction in the next day (but maybe with shorter auction periods).

Below are the names of the auction listings, in no particular order.
About half of these were just listed in the last few hours (now 5pm, PST, Sunday 8/16), so they may not show up in searches for another half a day.

(Apologies to anyone confused as I took down this entry for a half an hour after alerted that some items were not appearing in searches.)

I have an email address just for questions about these auction items:
thematchesauction@gmail.com

Take note of shipping and handling charges, which are to be paid separately from the eBay auction payments for winning bids.

Many of the buyers will be in the Bay Area and can pick up the items at the Fillmore show 8/23. Some items are just too difficult to ship, and some will be impractically expensive to ship out of the U.S. (but that's up to the buyers).

Handling charges are needed because most of these will be taken to a commercial shipping service to be boxed and shipped.

Some blog, myspace, messageboard postings have speculated about whether this auction of memorabilia means anything significant to the Matches' plans.

No. This means nothing. (so much nothing's going on.)

Now would be an appropriate time to move out these objects of history whether the Matches were now planning their next tour or whether they announced they hate each other and will never make music together again (neither, of course, which is the case).

And given what the Matches have announced - an indefinite hiatus, it certainly makes sense to clear out and close out their storage room, their trailer, the rehearsal room, various closets and garages (such as mine), as these odds and ends of the Matches' (and the Locals') last nine years or so are best in the hands of appreciative fans. We hope these random pieces of the Matches' own experience and their stage presence might be reminders of powerful music, meaningful live show moments, and, often, connections and bonds between audience members that grew out of shared tastes in creativity and music. Have the Matches' been a band? a cult? a community? Maybe some of all three.

What's next for the Matches? When?
Nothing is clear -- nor need it be.

This is a hiatus, not just a break, so they will not return together soon. They might never get back together. However, as they are very knowldgable fans of other bands and, also, shrewd observers of the performing world, they know that to claim they are breaking up without any possibility of reunion would be false.

At the same time, there is no undeclared scheme to reunite, no secret plan.

The Matches have spoken directly, honestly and transparently to you in saying this end of this phase of the Matches is "an indefinite hiatus." You know as much as they do what will happen or when it will happen, if anything ever will happen, in the Matches' future.

For now, they are thrilled to have their fourth album so taken to heart by their dedicated fans (so moving to me, as well, to read such laudatory comments), they are filled with excitement to be playing these two big shows as old friends on stage with more friends filling the venue, and they are primed and eager to move ahead with creative explorations in new settings.

Things change. That is something good. It can be hard for those most closely affected by the change, as it was difficult for the Matches to acknowledge to themselves that this was the time for a different road, but, still, still -- change is good.

Like yesterday,
- Miles

As some of you probably know, the Bird by Bird debut show is coming up this Friday the 21st at Blake's in Berkeley. What you might not know is that Matt Whalen will be playing drums. Also playing in the band are Max Bernstein and Jeremy Bonsall (formerly of The Actual).

Tickets are available on www.ticketweb.com and search "Bird by Bird"

Other bands playing on the show are Graham Patzner, The Trophy Fire, and I The Mighty.

Coming shortly ....
rare objects from touring, stage props, photo props, posters, artwork, original pre-Epitaph EVDKtL CDs, more.

My two favorite items I've found so far:
- the Locals one-way sign. An actual one-way street sign, painted over to say The Locals, used as stage signage.
- The plastic half-mannequin female torso used to display t-shirts for sale in the days of the Locals and early Matches shows in the Bay Area, wearing an unworn, now-out-of-print Matches black-on-black Strike t-shirt (small) and a shiny, white cloth hip wrap. This figure had a nick-name. Does anyone remember her name?

From the band to their fans who want to have some of the Matches' unique history, while making some money for the band to pay off debts.

Up soon on eBay. (I hope to have For Sale stuff posted today or tomorrow 8/15.) More info at this myspace blog soon.
