Sting to Perform and Tennis Star John McEnroe to Host Event to Benefit America's Everglades Restoration - Everglades Foundation announces 2010 Foreverglades Benefit Entertainment...

Composer, singer, actor, author and environmentalist, Sting, will be the musical guest at the Everglades Foundation's Fifth Annual ForEverglades Benefit on Friday, February 12, at The Breakers in Palm Beach, Fla. Tennis superstar John McEnroe will serve as master of ceremonies for this year's star-studded benefit, which will include cocktails, dinner and a live auction.

Jack Nicklaus will serve as Honorary Chair. Cindi and Nick Bollettieri, Sonia and Paul Tudor Jones II, Elaine and Ken Langone, Polly and David Ober and Lia Reed serve as event co-chairs.

"Advocates of Everglades restoration understand how important it is to sustain the momentum we experienced over the last year," said Kirk Fordham, CEO, Everglades Foundation. "How can we top this year's benefit? We can convince those who love this environment to come and enjoy great entertainment in support of a cause that has generated significant success over the last year with key Everglades restoration projects breaking ground. We now have a showcase event that really raises the bar in support of the science, advocacy and outreach needed to save America's Everglades. The annual ForEverglades Benefit brings together supporters from all across the country who understand the importance of restoring this one-of-a-kind ecosystem. It has become one of the hottest tickets of the season."

Sting rose to universal acclaim as the lead singer and bassist for the rock band The Police in the late 1970s and early 1980s, scoring several No. 1 hits, including 'Roxanne', 'Every Breath You Take', and 'Message in a Bottle'. The group earned five Grammy Awards, two Brits and an induction into the The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Sting's successful solo career produced an additional 11 Grammys; two Brits; a Golden Globe; an Emmy; three Oscar nominations; Billboard Magazine's Century Award; and MusiCares 2004 Person of the Year. His latest album, 'If On a Winter's Night...' features a collection of carols, lullabies and hymns spanning five centuries and was released in October 2009 on Deutsche Grammaphon.

A committed global activist, Sting's support for human rights organizations including Amnesty International and Live Aid, mirrors his art in its universal outreach. He founded the Rainforest Foundation in 1989 with his wife, Trudie Styler, to support protection of the world's rain forests.

John McEnroe has won seven Grand Slam tennis singles titles, nine Grand Slam men's doubles titles, one Grand Slam mixed-doubles title and was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 1999. After a 12-year absence from the professional tour, McEnroe returned to top-level doubles competition in 2006 and became the oldest male player to win an ATP title in 30 years when he won the SAP Open at San Jose. As well as being a distinguished athlete, McEnroe's commitment to and passion for the environment and conservation has been unwavering, evidenced by his tenure as a Riverkeeper board member.

The Everglades Foundation Benefit has attracted many prominent supporters since its inception. Gloria Estefan and the Miami Sound Machine performed last year, and South Florida writer and journalist Carl Hiaasen was honored. Past ForEverglades performers and attendees have included Jimmy Buffett; Thalia and Tommy Mottola; Miami Dolphins owner Stephen Ross; Daryl Hall and John Oates; Diana Ross; John Mellencamp; Chris Evert; Christine and Steve Schwarzman; Audrey and Martin Gruss; and Lydia and Robert Forbes.

"This has been an extremely positive year for America's Everglades restoration," added Fordham. "A string of key projects are breaking ground, renewing hope for the millions of Floridians who enjoy the recreational opportunities and economic benefits of the Everglades."

Individual event tickets are available from $1,000 and include preferred seating and donor recognition in the event program. Table sponsorships are from $10,000 to $100,000. The Foundation's board funds all of the organization's fundraising and administrative expenses - ensuring that 100 percent of each donation goes directly to Everglades restoration science and outreach programs.

Wolfsburg, December 2009 - As part of the Movimentos Festwochen of Autostadt in Wolfsburg 2010, exceptional British musician Sting will perform for two nights. Accompanied by the Bundesjugendorchester (National Youth Orchestra of Germany), two concerts will be staged at the listed KraftWerk of the Volkswagen Group. Advance ticket sale starts 22 December 2009.

"Having been able to attract Sting to the Movimentos Festwochen fills me with great anticipation", says Dr. Maria Schneider, Artistic Director of Movimentos Festwochen and Autostadt's Creative Director. "Not only is he one of the best musicians of our time, but a great supporter of human rights and environmental protection for which he both devotes a lot of time and energy. Nowadays, that kind of commitment is no longer a matter of course - there aren't many role models like him around. Our festival topic for next year is courage and humility and I cannot think of an artist, who embodies this attitude more authentically than him."

Composer, singer, actor, author, activist - Sting has won universal acclaim in all these roles, but he defies easy labeling. He's best described as an adventurer, a risk-taker. As he himself said, "I love to put myself in new situations. I'm not afraid to be a beginner." Husband and father of six, masterful guitarist and bassist, and also a devoted Yoga practitioner, he's made a career, in fact, of new beginnings.

A milkman's son from Newcastle, England, Sting was a teacher, soccer coach and ditchdigger before turning to music. Inspired equally by jazz and the Beatles (eclectic tastes that would prove prophetic), he met Stewart Copeland and they, along with guitarist Andy Summers, formed the Police in 1977. The band quickly became a success both in the UK and U.S. scoring several No. 1 hits including "Roxanne," "Every Breath You Take," "King of Pain," and "Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic." They earned five Grammy Awards and two Brits, and in 2003 the band was inducted into The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The trio's live work forecast the astonishing inventiveness and range of influences that Sting would realize fully in his solo career.

With the release of Dream of the Blue Turtles in 1985, followed by Bring On The Night, Nothing Like The Sun, The Soul Cages, Ten Summoner's Tales, Mercury Falling, Brand New Day, All This Time and Sacred Love, Sting has evolved into one of the world's most distinctive and highly respected performers, collecting as a solo performer an additional 11 Grammys, two Brits, a Golden Globe, an Emmy, three Oscar nominations, Billboard Magazine's Century Award, and MusiCares 2004 Person of the Year. He has appeared in 15 films, Executive Produced the critically acclaimed, "A Guide To Recognizing Your Saints," and in 1989 starred in a Broadway play the "Threepenny Opera."

Also an accomplished author, Sting published a memoir entitled Broken Music in 2003, which spent 13 weeks on the New York Times Best Sellers list. Most recently, he released Lyrics - a comprehensive collection of lyrics and personal commentary, also featuring photographs from throughout his career.

Sting's support for human rights organizations such as Amnesty International and Live Aid mirrors his art in its universal outreach. Along with wife Trudie Styler, Sting co-founded the Rainforest Foundation in 1989 to protect both the world's rain forests and the indigenous peoples who live there. Together, they have raised more than million dollars with their 15 benefit concerts to raise funds and awareness of our planet's endangered resources. Since its inception, the Rainforest Foundation has expanded to a network of interconnected organizations working in 23 countries around the globe.

Sting has remained at the forefront of the public consciousness for four decades and has written some of the most enduring songs of our time, a talent perfectly showcased by his record Sacred Love, released to both critical and commercial success. Recently, Sting ventured into "new" musical territory with an album featuring the music of acclaimed Elizabethan songwriter, John Dowland (1563-1626) entitled Songs From the Labyrinth - which debuted at the top of the classical charts in the US, UK, France, Canada & Germany.

In 2007, The Police reformed and embarked on a world tour. This much heralded tour played to over 3.7 million people on five continents and ranked as the third highest grossing tour of all time. The Police world tour also garnered numerous accolades including 'Major Tour of the Year' (Pollstar), 'Top Selling' and 'Top Tour of the Year' (Billboard) as well as the People's Choice award for 'Favorite Reunion Tour of 2007.'

Sting's latest album, If On a Winter's Night... released on Deutsche Grammophon, debuted at No. 6 on Billboard's Top 200 and No. 1 on both the Classical and Seasonal charts. The album presents an arc of songs that conjure the season of spirits, featuring a collection of carols, lullabies and hymns spanning the centuries, resulting in a haunting, spiritual and reflective musical journey. Deutsche Grammophon also recently released a special, live concert performance on DVD entitled, "Sting: A Winter's Night...Live from Durham Cathedral." Filmed at the magnificent Durham Cathedral near Sting's hometown of Newcastle-upon-Tyne in Northern England, he was joined on stage by an ensemble of thirty-five musicians, including string and brass sections, conducted by producer Robert Sadin.

The ensemble performing with the National Youth Orchestra of Germany at the Autostadt in Wolfsburg will be a great opportunity for the young artists and Sting himself to showcase the inspirational effects when classical and contemporary works unite. For an average of two years, one hundred young artists aged 14 to 19 years get the chance to be a part of this extraordinary experience working with known conductors, instructors and playing live both at home and abroad. The joint performance with the Bundesjugendorchester (National Youth Orchestra of Germany) at the Movimentos Festwochen of Autostadt in Wolfsburg should be an outstanding evening for all fans.

Secret Police Man by Henry Padovani - now available in English -

In his book Secret Police Man Henry recalls:

How, newly arrived in London, he met Stewart Copeland and jammed with him at his squat in Mayfair.

The fateful day that together, dressed in leather drainpipes and dark glasses, they "put on a show and adopted the pose of dangerous rockers" to impress Sting who had just arrived from Newcastle in his dungarees with baby Joe in a travel cot.

Stories of the early days touring with The Police in Europe and at the legendary Mont-de-Marsan punk festival.

How he came to be on probation at Clerkenwell police station and was given special dispensation to turn up late to sign the register on the day The Police were recording their first single, Fall Out.

And how, after the arrival of Andy Summers, Sting had to break the news to Henry that they wanted to carry on as a three-piece without him.

It could all have ended right there, but this was just the beginning...

Being voted "Ligger of the Year" by City Limits magazine, and his detailed descriptions of life from within the inner circle of the London punk scene where he would be out every night watching bands such as The Damned and Generation X at clubs such as The Roxy.

Bizarre escapades during the three years he spent touring with Wayne County and The Electric Chairs whilst Wayne was in full transformation into "Jayne".

Forming his own band The Flying Padovanis, including the infamous cream-cake fight backstage in Paris with the Pretenders.

Touring with Kim Wilde where she confesses to having suicidal thoughts...

His close friendships with the doomed Pete Farndon of the Pretenders and with Topper Headon of the Clash during their descents to drugs hell.

Memories of Paris and Amsterdam as vice president of the IRS record label where he launched REM, The Cramps and Lords of the New Church, amongst many others.

The fortnight spent at Miles Copeland's chateau in the Perigord where Cher eventually let her hair down and shared the story of her "first time"...

Treating Sting and Trudie, and Bono and Ali, to join him in a box at the Stade de France for the World Cup Final where after the match they bump into Henry's heroes, the whole of the Brazilian football team, who forget for a second the loss of the match to the French, and are star-struck in Bono's presence.

Coaxing a cantankerous Luciano Pavarotti away from his house where he insists on having a long lunch followed by a siesta, back to a local hotel where a stressed out producer is tearing her hair out and a large TV crew is threatening to walk out after waiting to film him singing and presenting an award to Zinedine Zidane.

Reforming the original Police lineup with Sting and Stewart to play with him on his single Welcome Home: a "rapprochement" which many have seen as a precursor of the reforming of The Police...

Performing "Next to You" alongside The Police in front of 80,000 people at the Stade de France, where he is given a dressing room in the anti doping control room.

All these stories, and many more, can be found in Henry's book: "The Secret Police Man".
